Chapter 2: Sign the Papers!

This wouldn’t be the first time Angelo took beatings because of his marriage to Trisha, but it was his first time taking beatings from Dirty Dog such as this. The doctor and nurses at the ICU tried their very best to keep him stabilized and alive.

Beside him was his baby sister, Annabel, who is the only family he has; she is 19, and ever since the loss of their parents he had taken up responsibility for her. Also, his beloved wife, Trisha, was there with him as well as his only friend, Cortez.

“Do you think he will be okay?” Annabel asked in tears as she watched her brother lying on the hospital bed almost lifeless.

“Am sure he will, Annabel. Don’t worry, everything will be fine.” Trisha held her, trying to console her but they both burst into tears.

“Clear this place now!” A voice commanded at the entrance hall of Saint Salvadore Hospital.

“You heard the man. Everyone out this minute.” Another voice shouted.

The Rodriguezs had just arrived at the hospital where Angelo was and with their heavily armed men, everyone in the hospital began running out fearing for their lives.

“What’s going on out there?” Trisha asked Cortez hearing the noise of people shouting and running.

“I’ll check it out quickly.” Cortez set out to check what was going on but was stopped by the visitors before he could get to the door.

“No, you will do no such thing.” Juan, Trisha's second brother, opened the door and kicked Cortez down to the floor.

“Mom. Dad. And you three, what are you all doing here.” Trisha shouted in shock and anger as her parents and brothers entered the room.

She knew that whatever reason brought them there was not going to end well for Angelo.

“Shut up, you spoilt ungrateful brat.” Her mother fired back at her with fierceness in her face.

“Well, well, well. Look who’s still breathing.” Jack, Trisha’s eldest brother, drew close to Angelo’s almost lifeless body on the bed looking at him with no ounce of pity in his eyes.

“What do you want.” Trisha quickly stepped in between her brother and her hospitalized husband.

“Come on now, baby sis. We’ve warned you several times about being with this idiot but you wouldn’t listen, would you? Now, we have come to help you out.”

“I don’t need your help with anything, and for the last time, nothing you or anyone can do to make me leave him.”

“Don’t be so sure about that honey, there’s plenty of things we can do you know. Maybe we show you some, starting with this right here.” Her mother brought out an envelope from her bag and handed it over to Trisha.

Trisha opened the envelope and brought out the papers in it. She was shocked by the heading that welcomed her eyes and the content of the documents.

DIVORCE AGREEMENT BETWEEN TRISHA RODRIGUEZ AND ANGELO BRUNO.

“I didn’t ask for this and neither am I signing it.” She threw the documents back to her mother insisting she wasn’t going to divorce her husband.

Her parents knew how stubborn she could be, it runs in the family. But they came prepared to break her.

“You see, honeybee. We are not asking. You will sign those papers and when this pathetic piece of shit you call a husband wakes up, he will sign his too.” Her father had just given her something to worry about, knowing he never made empty threats nor did he bluff in matters such as this.

But she was going to stand her ground anyway. She loved Angelo too much to let him go because of some family threat,

“No. I’ll do no such thing, not now not e—” The sudden sound that engulfed the room not only silenced her but made her and Annabel scream in fear and terror.

Jack had just pulled the trigger on Cortez, shooting him twice in the chest. As Cortez’s body hit the floor beside Annabel, the two girls screamed out loud as they rushed to grab him on the floor but the bullets were precise and had killed him instantly.

Trisha rushed at her brother hitting him in the chest,

“Why?! Why you bastard?”

“We told you, honey, we were not asking. Now, you can either sign these papers now or two more bullets will fly from your brother’s gun to that pretty face next to you.” Her mother had just threatened to kill Annabel if she didn’t sign the divorce papers.

At this point, Trisha couldn’t resist anymore. If her family just killed Cortez and considered it a warning shot, they would most definitely kill Annabel also and she couldn’t let that happen.

“Okay. Okay, you maniac. I’ll sign the papers but please leave her alone. Do not hurt her.” She cried to them, consenting to sign the papers in hopes that they would spare Annabel.

“Call us what you want, we love you and we are doing what’s best for you and this family.” Her mother answered her, “And of course, the pretty doll can stay pretty on. All you need to do is put your signatures on the papers.” Her mother again handed her the documents and with a pen this time.

Trisha took the papers and signed the necessary places consenting to divorce Angelo. She had never thought a day like this would ever come when she would agree to divorce her beloved husband but her family was good in the game and they sure knew how to get what they wanted.

“There you have it, now leave us alone.” She cried as she threw the papers back to her mother.

“That wasn’t difficult now, was it? And no girl, there is no ‘us’ anymore, you’ve signed to divorce him already. So, you are coming with us.” Her mother signed her brothers to take her. Johnnie and Juan grabbed her and took her out of the room despite her screams to let her be so she could tend to Angelo.

Her parents stayed behind however to have a final word with Annabel who was still shivering and crying from the whole scene she just watched with the killing of Cortez.

“Listen to me you miserable bitch. When your piece of shit of a brother wakes up, tell him we expect him at our residence immediately, and he better come with a pen. Make sure to fill him in on all he missed while he was dining with the devil.”
