CHAPTER 4: BANKRUPTCY

"Just now, why was Sophia in such a hurry? Did something happen to the company?" Daniel didn't pay attention to what happened afterward.

"What do you mean by this?" Sophia’s cold face was full of incredulity. "Just because there was a problem with the dividends, you laid hands on my company?" She sat in a private room of a teahouse, looking at her relatives.

"What problem?

It's one million dollars!" A heavily make-up woman shouted directly.

"Yes, cousin, this year's interests are not right. " Joseph saw that his cousin had encountered this situation and quickly expressed his position.

"Hmph! The car I wanted to buy is now ruined. Cousin, you have to give it back to me!" Others spoke up, and the scene suddenly became noisy.

"Enough!"

Sophia shouted and calmed down the scene.

But just a moment later.

"What's your name!" A girl of the same age as Sophia touched her beloved ring as if she had been frightened.

"Yes, Sophia, we just hope you can investigate properly and not let others take advantage of our company's interests!"

"Sophia, these are all your elders! Show some respect!" Other people chimed in trying to use their elders' status to suppress her.

But Sophia could control a huge company alone, so she naturally wouldn't be intimidated by them.

"Hilary!"

Sophia suddenly shouted, instantly suppressing everyone's voices. She looked at the girl of the same age as her, her eyes full of disappointment,

"Do you remember how you begged me when your parents were seriously ill?"

Without waiting for Hilary to speak, she looked calmly at Joseph and continued, "Joseph those houses of yours, were they not given to you by me?" She named each person who had benefited from her, and they all lowered their heads in shame. Almost everyone in the Hughes family owed her a debt of gratitude.

However, because she had been too gentle in the past, these people had become ungrateful and had chosen to forget some things.

"Sophia, how can you say that? It's as if we owe you everything!" Ethan’s face was ugly. He had brought so many people here today to force Sophia to step down, not to boost her confidence!

But Sophia looked at him indifferently and called him by name, "Ethan, don't you owe me anything? When your son was seriously ill and you had no money, who knelt at my house for five days and five nights to persuade my parents to lend you money?

Have you repaid that debt?"

She had a keen intuition and could tell that

the visitors today were not friendly. Since she had been brought from the company to this cafe, she had not shown any signs of retreat.

"And when I came back from the States to

take over the company, what did you do?" she continued in a calm voice. "The company was on the verge of bankruptcy, and none of you wanted to take responsibility or contribute money. And when we lent you money, no one was willing to pay it back!"

"Hey, Ethan! Did I beg you for money when I went to your house? And what about you, Joseph? Didn't I help you? Without the

the money I gave you, could you be sitting here relaxed and drinking tea?"

"And Joseph! Have you forgotten what you firmly said to me before? Didn't you say that the company would have nothing to do with you in the future? Who was the one who begged me for money?"

As she spoke, Sophia couldn't help but think of the difficulties she faced in the past. Her tone became heavier and she revealed the black history of many people. The atmosphere was awkward. Sophia didn't owe them anything. It was they who owed her, and the debts they owed her were probably countless!

Ethan’s face grew darker and darker. As Sophia’s elder, he was now being pointed at and cursed without any mercy. His anger was beyond measure!

"Enough!"

Before Ethan could slam the table, Michael, Sophia’s third uncle, was the first to do so.

"Sophia, don't change the subject! We're talking about the interest today!"

He didn't mention the past when he was

helped by Sophia. He spoke resentfully, "Today, you must give us an explanation!"

That was an interest of one million dollars! How could they just let it go?

"You want an explanation?"

Sophia looked around and spoke indifferently, "It's simple. Our company is on the verge of bankruptcy."

Her tone was very calm as if she was not talking about the big issue of the company's bankruptcy. Instead, it was more like talking about having noodles for dinner.

But this statement was like a bombshell.

"What!

Bankruptcy?!

How did this happen?!"

"Why didn't we know about this news?!"

Sophia, don't just say things without evidence!" Everyone was shocked and unable to believe it, they bombarded her with questions.

They were all able to live comfortably because they had the company as their backing. If the company went bankrupt, what would they do?! People like Joseph, who was old and spoiled, relied on the money to support their living expenses. Hearing this sentence was like the sky falling, she asked with red eyes,

"Cousin!

Is it because of that pig..."

"Shut up!"

Sophia didn't hesitate to shout at Joseph, making him instantly red-faced and angrily saying, "I knew it! It must be because of him. Did he say something to you, cousin? Don't believe him!"

"What do you know?"

Sophia looked at him disappointedly, then scanned the relatives around her. "You guys are talking about money and what you will lose, have you ever considered the company? Ethan, you're still a part-time manager in the company while taking money. Wasn't it you who messed up the last Mr Black case?!"

Ethan’s face turned red, and the others had different expressions.

Although the money coming in was much, no one would refuse more money if they could get it.

So they all held some positions in the company to varying degrees.

The key was that some people were arrogant and had high expectations, but their abilities were lacking, and they messed up many cases.

"What exactly happened? How did the company go bankrupt?!"

"What's going on?" Anna asked anxiously.

"It's all because of your cousin that you

brought in through your connections! He's an industrial spy!" Sophia’s wished she could kill him, but she couldn't change the fact. "We have an important case tomorrow, and the contract is due. He stole the most important information, and now the case can't proceed! The penalty for breach of contract could bankrupt the company!"

"What?!

That's impossible!"

Anna quickly denied it. She didn't have any cousins from out of town. He just used his connections to get someone to do it for him.

He never expected that the problem would be traced back to him. It was like a bolt from the blue!

"Yes, how could he Anna...

Ethan wanted to defend his daughter, but Sophia looked at him coldly. "And the other person you brought in, Henry Thompson, is also an industrial spy and a thief!"

"I made two copies of the confidential documents for backup, but they were all stolen. The other copy was the one he stole!"

"How could that be?" Ethan quickly denied it.

Henry Thompson was introduced to her by an acquaintance, and he didn't care much about it. He just took the bribe and left him in the company. Who would have thought that he was also a spy?

"Impossible?"

Sophia looked at him coldly. "Do you want to monitor the information?"

Although she didn't have it in her hand, would these people know?

Sure enough, the room fell silent.

"Okay!"

At this point, the eldest uncle finally spoke.

"Anyway, Sophia, our share of the profits can't be reduced."

He directly decided on this matter.

And Ethan and the others also realized it.

They came for money today, but how did it turn into a criticism meeting for them?

"No money," Sophia looked at Uncle Noah, unable to hide the disappointment in her eyes. "I thought you would help the company get through this difficult time when you heard the news..."

"What!?"

He hadn't finished speaking, and many people's faces suddenly changed. They came to ask for money this time, and now they were being asked to give money.

That was impossible!

"Cough!" Uncle Noah coughed, and the scene suddenly fell silent.

"Little girl, your uncle is not someone who relies on his age to sell himself. If you don't want to give the money, it's fine. And the company is in trouble now, but I have a solution. Doesn't Samuel Maclean from the Maclean family like you? As long as you marry him, the Maclean family will help?"

"What!

Uncle Noah, I'm already married!" Sophia didn't expect even the highest-ranking elder to say something like this. They didn't want to solve the problem when something happened, and now they wanted to sell her to the Maclean family directly.

"Cough, Daniel is just a waste. How can he be worthy of you? I think you must have suffered in these years. So, today, you will divorce Daniel. As for the Maclean family, I will swallow my pride and help you solve the problem!" Uncle Noah spoke righteously as if this was the only way to solve the problem.

"I, I won't divorce Daniel" Sophia gritted her teeth, feeling a bit wronged at the moment.

There were so many people here, but she was the only one fighting alone. Would the situation be better if Daniel wasn't so useless?

"What!?"

Uncle Noah’s voice suddenly became high-pitched, "What about Daniel...

cough cough!"

He suddenly coughed, and Ethan and others hurriedly helped him breathe.

Standing on the moral high ground, Sophia

spoke up, "Sophia! Can't you understand the situation when Uncle Noah is like this?"

"Yes, cousin, Daniel is not worthy of you at

all.

"Samuel even gave me a car last time! He's so generous, you'll be better off marrying him than that loser!"

Others also chimed in to persuade her.

Sophia suddenly felt helpless. No matter how powerful she was just now, no matter how strong she was in bringing a company back to life, she was ultimately just an ordinary woman! A sense of unprecedented grievance suddenly hit her heart. But at this moment, the door of the cafe suddenly opened, and Sophia felt herself being embraced by warm arms.

A familiar yet unfamiliar voice slowly

sounded, "Mr Maclean is your biological father!?"
