Elora woke up and found herself sitting outside at the wooden bench, where she had previously sat and fed two pizza slices to a street dog.

“Why am I here?” She looked a little confused, even though Russell was sitting right next to her. The last thing she remembered was booking a room at a new hotel, and then coming out with Russell for dinner. And then she didn’t remember what happened. But she felt dizzy. “Russell, I don’t feel well.”

“Let’s go back to the hotel room, Mom,” he helped her get up, and he walked with her to the hotel across the four-lane road.

Kyra was still there, sitting in her car, and she was very surprised to see Russell and his mother. They both looked poor and pitiful as they crossed the street, but she didn’t feel all that pity toward him because she couldn’t forget seeing his picture on Karensa’s mobile not long ago.
