Chapter 2: The ‘Kidnap’

Micheal had just ignored a call when he felt his phone ringing again,

Assuming it might be the same unfamiliar number, he was about to ignore.

But his intuition urged him to look on his phone.

Seeing it was his brother-in-law, Darius calling, he decided to pick up despite knowing nothing good would come out of this call.

“Hello brother-in-law,” Micheal said in a calm tone.

“What did you just call me?” Darius asked in anger.

“My brother-in-law?” Micheal said innocently.

“My brother-in-law? And who approved of that? I do not have such an ineffectual and useless person like you as a brother-in-law. The only person who sees you as an individual is Amelia” Darius declared.

Micheal sighed and tried to not let this get to him.

After all, this is not the first time he is been treated in such a manner by Darius.

“Why did you call me then?” Micheal asked trying to sound as normal as possible.

“Huh, do not sound so important. For a person as worthless and unskilled, you have no right to feel important in this family” Daris said over the phone.

Micheal held tightly onto his old phone as he took in his ridicules.

“If there is nothing I will hang up then,” he said and was about to hang up when Darius angerflared.

“You dare hang up on me? Micheal, you sure have a lot of guts, now that you are married to my sister, right? Well, I will have to disappoint you. Amelia might be so stupid to not see how valueless you are. But I can see. And not only me, but my parents too. You should be thankful we allowed you to stay in our home all these years. Even after everything we did for you, you now want to repay us with ingratitude. Have you no shame Micheal Bryce? You have been nothing but pathetic and you will continue to be one” Darius humiliated.

Micheal closed his eyes and knew he could not go against the son of the couple who raised him.

“And one more thing,” Darius said leaving him in suspense.

“You have until tomorrow to leave my sister. If not you will be disowned by the family for good. And I know you do not want that.” Darius said.

Micheal could see Darius' smug smile through his voice despite not seeing him.

“Is that even necessary? Amelia and I love each other dearly and I thought you would support her. After all, she is your sister. Will you want to hurt her feelings ” Micheal argued.

“If hurting her feelings means she will divorce you then I will proudly hurt her feelings over and over again,” Darius said.

“DARIUS” Micheal exclaimed.

He was shocked by this confession.

“What happened? Is it really necessary to raise your voice while calling me? You are not even fit for that. With a low-class indigent like you, who can not even find a job in this city, what can you do for her? Tell me?” Darius said.

“I can love her,” Micheal said.

“Love? Please spare me that. Amelia is only blind to love someone like you” Darius said.

Micheal said nothing in response and kept quiet.

“You should know we can do anything to make your life a living hell. My mother actually did a great job making sure you never get a job in any company in this city. Oops, I said it out loud” Darius said in a pretentious tone like he slipped something he shouldn't have.

Micheal would be a fool if he could not hear the mockery in his voice.

But what shocked him the most was the fact that the woman who raised him could go to this extent.

“Well, since the cat is already out of the bag I don’t think I need to keep it a “secret” anymore. She has specifically demanded that no company hire you. They shouldn’t even entertain you. You are lucky you even got called on your last try. Now if you do not want Amelia and her unborn child to be disowned by the family, you will do as told”

With that Daruis ended the call before Micheal could say anything.

Micheal with an awestricken expression stood by the road.

Amelia was pregnant and he knew nothing about it?

He is going to be a father and he is the last person to know?

“What am I going to do next? I have no money. And I can never get a job in this city thanks to Venice. But can I divorce the only person who has shown me nothing but sincere love and care?”

Michael said to himself as he thought of his next step.

Is he divorcing his wife?

Just as he was lost in his thoughts, Micheal did not see the Lincoln limousine that had pulled over just a few steps from him.

A few well-built men in black suits got down and were walking towards him.

The last thing Micheal could remember was a black bag over his head as he was dragged to the car.

“Who is this?”

“Help”

“Let me go”

He struggled but his strength was futile against these strong men.

A little shaken, Micheal could only think of his dear wife and unborn child thinking he was being kidnapped.

What will happen to them?

Will they be safe while he is no more?

What will be the life of his unborn child when he grows up without his father?

Or will his unpredictable mother-in-law force Amelia to abort the pregnancy?

With these thoughts, he could do nothing but leave his life in the hands of whoever it is that has kidnapped him.

The Limousine soon arrived at a very luxurious house and he was led out.

Unaware of his surroundings, Micheal could only rely on the men in black suits to walk inside.

The men brought him inside the house and placed him on a chair.

The black bag was taken off his head.

The sudden sunshine almost bedazzled his eyes as he struggled to open his eyes.

But before he could even take in the unfamiliar place, he saw an old man coming towards him with a frown.

Thinking he was about to meet his demise he heard the most shocking words ever.

“Who allowed you to treat our young master this way?”
