Chapter 8: The three women

…BYC company …

Micheal entered his large and bright office with a pessimistic look.

“Why were my instructions of giving the bid to my wife not carried through”. He asked as soon as he sat down.

Micheal had already forgotten about Calyton and any unpleasant business caused by him.

“Boss, there is an explanation for that,” Pete said.

“There better be. For I expect my instructions to be followed without any failure and not the other way round” Michral declared.

Pete felt unbelievable tension from his boss for the first time.

Who would have thought the heir of the Bryce family would be this fierce?

Pete composed his feelings and decided to act with confidence.

He wouldn’t want to leave a bad impression on his boss for the first time.

“Your instructions would have been carried if not for some things that need to be taken into consideration”

Micheal neither answered nor reacted.

He just stared at him waiting for Pete to finish with his statements.

Seeing that his boss wasn’t going to stop him, he confidently continued, “ The bidding would have been handed over to Amelia Kincaid as you instructed. But upon closer look, her company can not handle the bid if handed to her. This is more and larger than what the Kincaid company can handle at the moment. And so I postponed it, hoping to discuss it with you first before I know how to proceed with the next step”

Micheal stood up and walked to the glass wall and gazed at the big city.

Thanks to the big and tall the company building was, it wasn’t difficult to see the whole outskirts of the city.

“So you are saying, it might be difficult for my wife to take over if the bid is handed to her? Is that what you want to say” Micheal asked again.

“Yes sir” Pete answered.

Micheal turned and the gloomy look was no longer visible on his face.

“You are right.” Micheal said and sat back down, “The only thing to do now is to make sure most of the work will be done by us before it’s handed over to her. And I want you to personally see to that. There shouldn’t be any problem whatsoever. And Amelia shouldn’t know about it”

Pete silently breathes in a sign of relief.

Only he knew how hard it was to keep his composure before his boss who is rumored to be cold and ruthless.

“Sure Boss. Everything will go according to all that you said”

“I sure hope so,” Micheal said.

Kincaids mansion…

“I’ve always said you have changed. But I didn’t know it would be to this extent. That was so immature of you” Aaron scolded.

“But I thought you said we should all make an effort to make the company prosperous again. What did I do wrong by trusting my husband to help this family? Does it always have to be about making a mistake? Can’t you even see something good out of anything?” Amelia complained bitterly.

“You think this is about how bad of a discussion it was to agree to your marriage? We might lose our company, House and everything we have because of your silly decision about that bid. What were you thinking” Venice asked.

“Wish we all knew” Darius answered with a scoff.

Darius knew within himself that this was his fault but still pinned this on Micheal and Amelia.

And why not since everyone hated them?

“This family has become a laughing stock ever since you got married to Micheal”

Amelia closed her eyes in anger trying to keep her emotions in check.

But knowing this had nothing to do with her, she knew she just couldn’t keep mute anymore.

“What was I thinking? What was I thinking mother? I was thinking about this family. Unlike someone who only knows how to bring trouble to this family,” Amelia complained angrily while pointing a finger at Darius.

“And what is that supposed to mean? Why are you pointing a finger at me? Why has this got to do with me” Darius asked.

Amelia smiled bitterly, “What has this got to do with you? You and everyone present here know about how bad it was that you got us in debt. But who knew you would go to the extent of taking out a loan? And to think you only wanted to expand your side of the business and not the whole family. And you have the nerve to say something about my decision to help this family. You are just as selfish as your thoughts are. And mother and father do not have any problem with that. But always see the one who is trying to make an effort to help this family as the one pulling us down. Can you not be selfish even for once”

The whole family stood there in shock at her sudden outburst.

This is unlike to docile and quiet Amelia that they all knew.

“Wh.. What are you talking about Amelia? How can you speak to your parents in such a tone” Venice asked while stummering.

Her daughter looked like a completely different person from her.

Not only her.

The woke family was stunned.

And they also knew within them that she was telling the truth.

But who can she blame when everyone hated them?

“What am I talking about? This is funny” Amelia stated.

Just when Aaron was about to speak up, a group of three women entered the house with their shoulders high.

Upon seeing who they were, Amelia frowned.

“Aaron, where is the good daughter you raised? She can’t continue to pull this family down with her outlandish discussions” Margo, Aarons’s sister said.

The Kincaids all kept quiet and said nothing.

That used to be worshiped by these women until Margo’s daughters got married to some rich heirs.

“Mother I told you Amelia is a lost cause. Just look at what she is bringing to this family. Just a big disgrace” Prisca, Amelia’s first cousin said proudly as she rubbed her pregnant belly.

Venice stared at her daughter angrily when she heard this.

They wouldn’t be in this situation if Amelia had listened to her and married such and powerful man.

Their family would have already stepped up in the business and these ladies from the outer family wouldn’t be here to say trash about them just because they married rich men who have helped them level their family status.

“Who would have thought that the bright and exquisite Amelia one day be at this level? Life sure is unpredictable” Lydia, her second cousin also commented.

Venice couldn’t stand to hear them speak ill about her daughter anymore.

No matter what she was her daughter and only she had the right to speak to her daughter in such a manner, “ Margo can you tell your daughter to watch her words? You guys are in our house”

“House? Are you talking about this place that is about to be given to the bank? Please Venice, spare me those threats” Margo answered with a smirk.

Venice had no other option than to keep mute.

She looked at her husband just to see if he could speak up for her, but he just had a frown on his face while looking at Amelia.

“Amelia, you should know better than anyone else that you married the wrong man right? Your Micheal has nothing better to do other than shining other shoes and eating the leftover scraps of others. Just pathetic. So pathetic” Prisca mocked.

“You are so right Prisca. But who knows? Maybe, Your Micheal might not be looking for a job always as you presume Amelia” Lydia said, “Who knows, that might be his excuse to spend time with his lover”

Amelia got annoyed by the words and her face became more red than a fresh tomato.

She wished she could just speak up but she also knew her father wouldn’t like it since he might ask for help from her aunty.

She just kept her peace and did not even make a sound.

She knew her two cousins were jealous because she got to marry the man of her choice.

“What? What happened to you today? Can’t you speak up as you always do dear cousin” Lydia asked with a mockery smile.

“Lydia, she might be thinking of ways to confront her husband when he gets home,” Prisca said and covered her mouth trying to suppress the laughter that was about to escape from her lips.

The Kincaids had ugly looks on their faces but said nothing.

Darius was beyond himself in anger when he got a call.

Upon seeing that it was his secretary calling, he was about to decline when he decided to pick up.

“Yes,” he said in an angry tone.

Just then his eyes widened in shock and stood up.

“What? Really? Okay, I will see to it”

He said and hurriedly ended the call.

“Why happened” Venice asked with a curious look.

“The winning bidder is about to be announced through a live stream in 5 minutes,” Darius said.

The room suddenly became silent.
