Chapter 6: Saving a Child Demon

"We are on sale! We are on sale! Two copper coins for two sticks of pork barbecue! Ladies and gentlemen, the pork we used as the main ingredient in this barbeque came from black boar. We assure you our barbeque is top quality and more delicious than others. Only on this day will you enjoy our delicious food at a cheaper price!"

The currency here is divided into four kinds: copper, bronze, silver, and gold. Copper was the cheapest, while gold has the highest value, no dispute about it.

I handed the man two copper coins.

"Here."

After eating, I decided to walk around a little more, and just like on Earth, there were some park performers scattered throughout the park, but most of them were not dancers or singers; rather, they were more on magic shows.

They were doing party tricks using their elemental magic.

Some performed a water dance in front of the children.

Water Magic Imitated Skill Magic Acquired!

Some did some juggling performances by propelling the balls into the air using their Wind magic.

Wind Magic Imitated Skill acquired!

Some demonstrated some flashy dance numbers while brimming with electricity all over their body.

Electricity Magic Imitated Skill Acquired!

I clapped my hands as I watched the performers show their elemental magic.

However, some were just chilling while sculpting using their Ice magic.

Ice Magic Imitated Skill Acquired!

I didn't understand that every time I saw magic, I would hear a voice saying I acquired and imitated the magic I saw. I don't really quite understand how my Unique Skill works, but I reminded myself to study it when I have the time. For now, I'm happy I can gain a magic skill by watching anyone who has it.

This place was much wider than I had expected. There are a lot of things happening around me.

Based on my observations, elemental magic is common in this kingdom; just walking down the street, I have already seen tons of elemental magic being used.

For example, using fire magic to light up a stove or furnace, water magic to water a plant, and ice magic to make some cold beverages.

However, not everyone can use their magic as well as others, and I think that's what made the distinction between each person.

"Let go of me!"

While walking down the street and observing the people around me, I heard a voice coming from a girl from a distance.

And being the curious cat I am, I immediately walked where the sound came from and found three knights dragging a girl.

Yep, it looks bad no matter how much I look at it. I exhaled first before approaching them.

"Yo."

The three knights and the girl they were dragging instantly turned their gazes on me.

This is awkward.

"Is there a problem, young man?" One of them approached me and removed his helmet. He shook his head to settle his brown hair and looked at me confidently.

"Nothing really. Where are you planning to take that girl?"

"This demon committed a crime, and we're sending it where it belongs."

Demon?

Now that I've got a good look at her, she has brown horns on her head, peeking out of her ash-gray hair, and one of them was broken.

"Do you mean she?"

"A demon is not a person."

Woah! Woah! Hold your horses, buddy! That sounds like a very bad predicament.

"Get back here!"

The next thing I felt was the desperate hug of the demon girl on my waist while she was shivering.

"How does that thing manage to escape from both of you?"

"She used her magic on us, Captain Caspian."

No, she didn't. They intentionally let her go. And that alone is already saying a lot.

Captain Caspian turned his gaze on me.

"Now, young man, as you can see, I still have more things I need to do. How about you give that demon to me and just go home like the good citizen that you are?" the Captain said.

The girl hugging me shook her head while pushing her face on my waist.

"May I know what crime this girl did? Like a normal citizen that I am, I just want to know."

Captain Caspian chuckled.

"That thing killed a knight."

I see.

I gently pushed the girl and sat in front of her; her terrified blue eyes immediately shifted to me.

I smiled.

"Is it true?"

Tears immediately came out of her eyes as she repeatedly shook her head.

"I didn't mean it, and he was hurting me," she said, using a cracked voice.

"Thanks for your honesty." I patted her head and stood up.

Captain Caspian shrugged. "See? What did I tell you?"

I chuckled. "You're right. Forgive me for doubting you, Captain Caspian." I pushed the demon girl and hid her behind me.

"However, I'm afraid I can't let you have her."

Man, my big brother's instinct kicked in again!

"Oy, oy, aren't you a little bit arrogant, young man? Do you know who you are talking to?" He pulled his sword. "Know your place."

This guy.

"I should be the one asking that question, Captain. Do you know who you are talking to?"

"Huh? Are you messing with me?" The irritation was completely audible in his voice.

"Messing with you? No. The truth is, I'm trying my best to spare your life." I activated my Mana concealment and released just a little portion of my Mana manifestation, just enough to scare him away. "Now, the real question is, do you really want to fight for it?"

The best thing I've learned from cosplaying a bit was to act like a big shot, even though I'm not.

I never thought I could finally find a good use for my cringe-acting skills.

Captain Caspian looked at me with great astonishment in his eyes as his hand holding the sword slowly fell.

Yep, that's my cue; it's time to leave this stupid place before more of them arrive.

If stealthiness has a grading system, I will definitely get a big fat F.

I took the hand of the demon girl and pulled her with me.

"Let's go."

Even with confusion visible on her face, she immediately nodded and followed me.

Man! That guy was scary as hell!
