Chapter 013 - Heir

The TV blares in the background while Rohan prepares his food and beer. He sits on the couch and watches the news. The anchorperson reports how the police discovered that James Yu died of a steroid overdose. Prolonged usage has made James healthy on the outside, but unhealthy and weak on the inside.

“James Yu. The sole heir of the Yu dynasty died today,” the anchor said. “It will be remembered that James Yu has a problem with—”

A knock comes on the door. Rohan smirks. Just about time. Hera did a good job, huh? He stands up from the couch and opens the door, revealing a distraught Irving.

“They will kill me,” he greets.

“I guess it’s not a good day for you?”

He glances at the TV. “You already know.”

“As you can hear.”

Rohan opens the door wider for him. “Come in.”

Irving enters the house and looks around. “I am glad you are still here.”

“Why are you here, Irving?”

“I need money to get out of the country.”

“Why? You have James Yu’s fortune.”

“If he is alive! But if he’s dead, his mother will come after me!” He narrows his eyes at Rohan. “You didn’t kill him, didn’t you?”

“Why would I? When the two of you are beneficial for me alive?”

“So, you did plan to milk us!”

“Why does it matter? Seems like James Yu overdosed.”

“He’s no longer taking those! He was killed!”

“By who?” Rohan asks. Did Hera kill him?

“I don’t know! And I don’t plan to know. I just need to leave!”

“So you need money from me?”

“Yes, I paid you triple. It’s a lot of money. If you loan me even a quarter of it, it is already a big help.”

Rohan raises his hand to cut him off. “You withdrew nothing from James’s account?”

“I can’t! Alice Yu blocked everything!” Irving takes Rohan’s hands in his. “I want to go to another country where my life won’t be in danger.”

“You know I don’t do things for free.”

“What do you want? I can give you pleasure!”

He kneels before him and is about to unzip his pants when he pulls away.

“Get up! That’s disgusting!”

“Right, you are straight,” he pauses. “Women! I can send you a couple of women.”

“I don’t want it,” Rohan responds. “I only need one thing from you.”

“What is it?”

“Make me your brother, officially and legally.”

“What?” As Irving asks the question, he understands it. “You want to take James Yu’s money and face them head-on.”

“Yes. All your money. You will make me your heir and you will say that everything you inherited will go to me.”

“I can’t even use that money.”

“It doesn’t matter. It is still named to you.”

“What’s the use of money if you are dead...” he whispers.

“Who says I will die?”

“The Yu’s is an oligarch family!”

“Everyone knows that.”

“Why...”

“Irving, just tell me if you agree or not.”

Irving ponders it for a moment. “I’ll think about it.”

“I will give you half a day. In the meantime, I will prepare the documents if you agree.”

******************

Rohan enters the apartment that he shares with Irving. They are in another country and are hopping between cities. One week in each town, and they will be on the move again.

As for Irving’s inheritance, the papers are now safely in Rohan’s hands. He also sold the chain of fitness centers with documents, and he will laugh once Alice Yu discovers that.

“Where have you been?!” Irving asks. Lately, he’s been too anxious every time he disappears.

Rohan smirks. Irving doesn’t need to know that he has already earned a lot from him. He places the bag beside him and removes the envelope inside. He then shows it to Irving. “Your papers. You can fly tonight.”

“Only me?”

“Yes, I need to return to our country.”

“To fight the Yu’s,” Irving states.

Rohan nods.

“Can’t you just come with me?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“It has nothing to do with you.”

“Fine, but I hope you succeed,” Irving says.

“I will.”

It’s the middle of the night when Rohan wakes up from the sound of crashing glass. He stands up from the bed. There are two bedrooms in the apartment. One each in the east and the west. The living room is in the middle.

The noise came from outside the bedroom. Someone’s trying to break into the house. He peeks outside the door. His eyes widen as he sees the intruders. Men wearing masks and holding guns are coming through the balcony.

“This is where James Yu’s husband is hiding, huh?” one goon asks.

Another one shrugs. “I guess so.”

They walk towards the living room and Rohan steps back.

‘Damn it,’ he curses in his head. He locks the door softly and goes to his bed. He needs his gun, and he needs his other papers. His eyes travel around the bedroom. How the hell is he going to escape?

Then he hears footsteps and then a kick against his door.

“Why is this locked?”

“Probably being used by a man who helped him.”

“Ha! His next target?”

“Or probably, his real lover.”

‘Fight or flight?’ He asks himself.

A few seconds later, he hears a scream. It is Irving. What the heck are they doing to him? Can’t they just kill him? Else, his screams will wake up the entire apartment block. And if the police got wind of it, he will be in trouble and the Yu’s will find him.

And so Rohan runs to the window but pauses when he hears Irving screaming again. Frustrated, he turns his attention to his bedroom door, deciding what to do next.
