Elijah sat in a recliner chair on his private jet, staring out the airplane window, wondering what Connecticut had in store for him. He would have been delighted to visit Lucas on any other day, but today was different. This was all about Clara. The woman who had diverted his father's attention from his other children. Nobody knew how or why, but she had transformed John into a shadow of himself, till the day he died. Elijah and Clara made each other uncomfortable and they never hid their dislike for one another.

Immediately after John's death, Elijah lingered more around Lucas, but it was different for Cora. Lucas had repeatedly tried to keep Cora in Clara's care because he felt she needed a mother figure in her life, but Cora always stayed away, not like Clara had even tried to pull her close to herself either. Cora was different, and everyone could tell. She didn't dress like a goth or emo, but she was strangely different from the inside. Maybe it was because she was the one who w

Clara Morris, the woman who had driven John to an early grave, stood at the door. Her slim figure and model-like shape contained the entryway, still having enough space for her twin sons, Alex and Austin who were younger than Cora, to stand tall on each side of her. Every waking day following their marriage, she had reminded John of how less he was as a man, just because he was at the lowest point in his life where he grieved his beloved late wife. She repeatedly blamed his drinking on the fateful night that brought them together. She hurled insults and curses at him at every turn driving John even deeper into bottles. Elijah watched her catwalk into the room, heading for the available sofa opposite Lucas. Then, one of her sons sat on an armrest, and the other sat in a chair next to her, his eye on the driver who was still standing behind Elijah's chair. The driver looked at Elijah, waiting for his order, and Elijah signaled for him to give the second bag to Clara. He walked over to

Bianca Gardini Harkins was written in bold font on Clara's invite list. ‘This has to be a coincidence, right?’ Elijah questioned himself, as his eyes searched for the other name, and there it was, waiting to be seen- Fred Harkins. ‘The fuck!’ These were the words that screamed in Elijah’s mind. Clara had invited Bianca and Fred to his home. He tried to remember if he had ever seen an article or anything at all that could have indicated that Clara, Bianca, and Fred knew each other, but his mind came up blank. It couldn’t have been business because they all ran different businesses in two different countries. Maybe it was just a coincidence, Elijah thought to himself as he breathed a sigh of relief and straightened his back. His hands reached to loosen his tie's grip on his neck and he lost interest to continue scrolling through Clara's list. Elijah decided to hand the iPad back to Alex, who was still standing near him, likely waiting for him to finish so he could take the device to Lu

Lucas mansion has a large hall where the charity event was hosted. The hall was decorated to perfection, the music- the volume and songs being played were amazing and soothing and every other thing had been done exactly as Clara wanted it. While people had been going up and about trying to arrange, Elijah went in and out of the hall and he secretly commended Clara. If there was one thing he admired about her, she could host events, which always ended up as the talk of the town for months, with others attempting to emulate her style for their next event. He couldn't understand why she was so focused on running his father's company when she was capable of running a profitable event planning company. Elijah hesitated at the handle of his room door. He had been at Lucas' house for three days and had tried every trick in his book to avoid attending the event, but none of them worked, and Cora had made matters worse, by pleading with him to stay, insisting that he would keep her sane amid

'Who was this man?' Elijah asked himself. Whatever connection this man could have with Fred Harkins set his mind on high alert. 'Is this some kind of setup?' Elijah kept asking himself while glancing around his surroundings, his eyes squinted, looking to see any suspicious movement. He was surrounded by two noises, one was coming from the hall and the other was coming from two women who were standing far away and were laughing hysterically at whatever they were talking about.Elijah returned his attention to the man whose face he could not make out clearly since he was standing away from the light, but Elijah could see his frame leaning against the nearby pillar."Fred Harkins huh?" Elijah asked, trying to sound natural."Yes. The Fred Harkins. I know he is going to be here tonight, and that's why I brought myself here." "Do you mind explaining what you mean?" "Oh, it's not that serious. I'm not on a secret mission or anything, so the wheels turning in your head can stop." Elijah f

The man they'd been talking about stood right in front of them, laughing as if he was watching a circus show. Elijah wondered how much of their conversation Fred might have overheard, and he grimaced as he realized it could ruin his plans. He turned to see Joe's face filled with fear, embarrassment, and anger, most likely directed at him. "Do you really believe this man can change your life?" Fred asked Joe, pointing to Elijah. "This good-for-nothing, useless Elijah. Don't be deceived, he cannot help your career or do a goddamn thing. Do you know why? He is a poor stupid fool, who recently discovered a small change and now believes the world is beneath him."Joe turned to face him, and his expression was one of rage. Elijah knew he was feeling disappointed, but there was nothing he could say or do to help the situation. Joe had opened up to a stranger and now the stranger had given the very man Joe saw as his idol, the window to mock him. Elijah thought to himself, 'Wrong timing Lewi

Elijah dropped his head low in defeat, 'not again,' he groaned silently. This was worse than when he had accidentally caught Clara’s eyes. 'Talk about the story of Daniel being thrown in the lion's den,' Elijah whispered as he turned to confirm what he already knew. That high-pitched voice belonged to Bianca, and she was talking in a group, adjacent to him. She stood tall and beautiful as always. She always put so much effort into her appearance, which always drew the attention of both men and women whenever she entered the room. Little did they know what was hidden in that dark-malicious heart which was beneath that creamy flesh of hers. Elijah’s gaze swept over her body, landing on the hand that was wrapped around her waist. The same hands that had put him in a wheelchair for years, he thought. His stomach twisted, the food he had eaten earlier looking for a means of escape from his stomach, via his mouth. He wasn’t sure they had noticed him, because he was confident that if they

The soft voice washed over him, soothing him and calming the explosion that was about to erupt from inside him.“I can't believe rich people enjoy gossiping this much.” The owner of the voice laughed. “I mean it's crazy. I guess they don't have much to do with their luxurious, diamond-encrusted lives." The lady who had spoken turned to Elijah and his eyes widened at the beauty in front of him. She had large brown eyes and a small Grecian nose. She had a well-defined jawline and full, hearty lips. Her wavy hair was burgundy, with big curls that appeared to bounce off each other. It was as if the world had stopped and he lost himself in her eyes. She smiled up at him, waiting for him to contribute to whatever she had said. 'What was it again?' he asked himself, his mind racing to remember her previously said words. Fortunately, she spoke again. "Whenever I see them gathered like that, I used to think they were networking or doing something profitable, but now I know, and that’s somethi

Elijah sat in his office, staring at his computer, reviewing the report Vicky had emailed him. The report was a detailed document of all that had happened on the construction site during the one week since he had returned. If everything went well, the construction would be completed in less than six months, and the Casino would be operational. He was looking forward to the success of it. He had already asked Vicky to put out job applications so they could start going through applicants as soon as possible. He leaned back in his chair when he was done reading the report. His hand was playing with the pen on his table, and then his thoughts drifted back to the message he had received on his phone, back in Connecticut. Unknown: I will destroy you for everything that you have taken away from me. P.S. I know who you are.Elijah had been confused as to what the person was talking about, as he couldn't recall taking anything that belonged to anyone. 'Could it be Fred.' He asked himself. "

Elijah and Cora glanced at the face of the woman they had not seen since the fatherless charity function. Clara, clothed in fur in this heat wave, her lips were crimson red, stood in between her sons, as usual. "You both are just staring at me like it's the first time you are using your eyes properly," Clara said. She turned to look into the glass window that Elijah had been staring through before she came in. "So what's the situation?" Elijah and Cora did not respond, the only sound that filled the silence was the shuffling feet of nurses and doctors going in and out of patient wards. "Have you both suddenly gone deaf?" Clara asked. Elijah gritted his teeth and stepped away from the glass, moving closer to Cora. "Why are you here Clara?" "The last time I checked I am still family, and that old man laying right there," Clara said, pointing at Lucas, "is still my father-in-law." "No one wants you here.""Oh, I can see that. But I am not going anywhere. Besides Lucas, I'm the secon

When the average height of ladies barely reached Elijah's shoulders, Cora's head went past it a bit. Elijah wrapped his arms around Cora and tried to calm her down, whispering sweet nothings and promises that everything would be back to normal in no time, in her ears. He knew he shouldn't be giving her these kinds of promises, definitely not when he didn't even understand what his eyes had just seen behind the glass windowCora eventually relaxed, and Elijah pulled her body away from his slightly, so he could look into her eyes. Give me a moment, let me see how fast I can book a flight for you." Kira said, grabbing her laptop that was on a table, closest to her."Huh? What are you doing?" Elijah stared at Kira in confusion. "Booking a flight for you. You know, that thing that you would need to get yourself from here all the way to Connecticut." Despite feeling shocked after Cora's call, Elijah chuckled at Kira. "I have a private jet, Kira." "What? You…you have a what!?""A private jet.""I heard you the first time. Okay, I knew you were rich, but I didn't realize that you are rich enough to own a jet." Chapter 51

Elijah's POVAfter his dinner with Kira, Elijah locked himself in a hotel room with a redhead. One of the flings that he had set aside when he found satisfaction with Mia. They had been going at it all night and day, for two days now, and each time, Elijah had pushed away the thoughts and images of a certain woman out of his mind. He had not intended to end his dinner night with Kira in the arms of another woman, but he got restless immediately after he got back home. His body desired a particular person that they couldn't have, and so the best solution for him had been to bury himself in another woman's arms. Elijah never understood his burning need to be intimate with a woman after Bianca. He had concluded that it could be because she had denied him intimacy during the years that they were married while she was freely giving it to that older-looking man. Elijah was lying on his back, about to drift off into sleep, when he felt the light touch of a lady's hand slowly crawling up h

Kira's POVKira was driving to pick up Ian from the airport, and she was reminiscing about her dinner with Elijah two nights before. She was attracted to him in a kind of way, but being in a relationship was not a top priority for her, especially not with a man with mystery and trouble written all over. She assumed Elijah felt the same way because he would flirt with her one moment and then become serious the next. He had told her that they would devise a plan and work toward it, and she was okay with that idea as long as it destroyed Fred. She had ideas of her own, but she wanted to listen to what Elijah would come up with.Kira longed to know why Elijah was after Fred, but she doubted he would open up to her easily because she saw him as an onion with multiple layers. Kira was finally at the airport and she saw her brother standing outside, scanning the area, possibly looking for her car. She drove up in front of him, came to a halt, and rolled down the window. Elijah looked up from his table to see Kira approaching him in a black body con dress and black stilettos, her burgundy hair adding color to her outfit. As she approached, he rose from the chair and went to pull out a chair for her to sit on. "Oh wow. Thank you. You are quite the gentleman." Kira stated this while gushing at him, her hand on her chest. Elijah chuckled because he knew she was just trying to mock him. "You are five minutes late." "Just five minutes? That's not even enough payback for ignoring my calls." Kira scoffed."I thought we spoke about this." "And…? Because I'm so sweet and nice, I should not bring it up anymore?" "Okay. I apologize again." Elijah said this with his hands raised in surrender. "I'm genuinely sorry and it will not happen again.""It had better not."

Today marked the seventh time in five days that he had ignored Kira's call. He did not want to speak to her until Marcus found concrete evidence on her that he would use against her and tell her that he knew all about her plan to betray him. His guard was up, and he was not about to let those walls down anytime soon, especially not f
