Chapter 4

Ethan stared at the man in front of him, waiting for him to laugh and say he's joking or something of sort. Or maybe it was a prank from his wife. The timing was too perfect to be a coincidence.

Ethan took an involuntary step backward and shook his head strongly. "That's not true. I don't believe you."

"Come on, young master, don't you remember me at all? It's me, Drogo?" The man said earnestly.

Ethan took in the man's features. He looked nothing like a gentle man. He was about six foot five, had bulging muscles, tattoos arm, and even a piercing on his lower lip. There was no way he could have gotten himself associated with a person like that. It had to be his wife playing tricks on him.

"Fine..." Drogo persisted, "Ask me anything. We've been together since you were little. "

"Ask you a question?" Ethan repeated in his mind, questions he was sure their answers could be manipulated.

"Get out!" Ethan yelled in frustration, "Go back and tell Isabel that her tricks won't work on me!" He yelled and slammed the door on Drogo's face.

Drogo sighed tiredly, staring at the slammed door. He couldn't believe his master sent him away after he managed to find him almost a year later.

He groaned on frustration, wondering who Isabel was. He gave one final glance at the door and promised himself to come back for the sake of his master's sanity.

After Ethan closed the door, he sat on the floor and covered his ears like he was trying to block out Drogo words.

The words kept echoing in his head.

"You are Ethan Zaitsev Belinsky. A renowned doctor and the heir to Belinsky enterprises. "

He stood up with a grunt. The man made him seem like a powerful man. There has to be some mistake somewhere.

He can't take in the identity of someone else only for the family to discharge him later that they've found their real son.

He can't go through that emotional turmoil. He'd rather suffer than take the identity of someone else.

Still, his mind wouldn't stop repeating the words,

"You are Ethan Zaitsev Belinsky. A renowned doctor and the heir to Belinsky enterprises. "

To prove himself right, that he has nothing to do with that identity, he took out his phone and typed Belinsky enterprises in the search bar.

Nothing came up. He did the same with the name, "no result found" displayed on his screen instead.

He scoffed in annoyance, a bit disappointed. Jr should have known Isabel was trying to play games with him.

Just as he was about to dump his phone on the table, it rang. It was his wife.

He glared at his screen, debating whether to pick or not.

He answered the call with a resigned sigh, "Hel-"

"Ethan!!" Isabel yelled over the phone, "Where are you?"

"I'm at home. "

"Doing what?" She questioned.

"Cleaning the house." Ethan replied quickly.

"Please tell me you are joking. " She snapped.

"Um..." Ethan trailed off.

Her voice rose a pitch higher as she spoke next, "Don't you know it's is your duty to get flowers to grandmother in the hospital and buy some fruits?"

"You told me not to..." Ethan tried explaining.

"Just stop talking! Once again, you are proving them right on being a useless son-in-law. Do I have to tell you what to do every time?"

"I'm sorry," Ethan apologized quickly. "I'll get it done." But she already hung up.

He thought about going to the main house to borrow some money from the gate man. As if reading his thoughts, Isabel sent a message.

"There is money under the TV, and you better get on Grandma Logan good graces to waive the divorce."

He checked the TV and took out the money. It was enough to get him to the hospital and buy fruits but not come back. He would have to trek.

Accepting his sad fate, Ethan went to the hospital.

"What are you doing here?" Grandma Logan asked spitefully.

"I brought you flowers and fruits. " Ethan said in response, arranging the flowers. "How are you feeling now."

"None of your business." Grandma Logan replied, eyeing her son-in-law. If you are done, kindly get out. I can't breathe in properly with you here. The air is getting contaminated."

"Sorry." Ethan bowed, "please get well soon." He muttered and scurried out.

Grandma Logan scrunched her nose up in disgust, wondering how her granddaughter got acquainted with Ethan in the first place and then agreed to marry him.

Ethan stood outside the hospital, it was beginning to rain and it didn't seem like the rain was going to stop anytime soon.

He placed his palm over his face and began his long journey home.

A car honk pulled him out of his reverie.

"Heyy. " the driver shouted, "Get in."

Ethan immediately recognized her. It was Ruby.

He frowned at her, wondering if she was stalking him.

"I'm married." Ethan yelled in response.

"I don't care, get in!"

Ethan shook his head negatively and continued jogging.

The sports car swerved to a stop few meters away from him, and Ruby alighted the car, waved at him and got into a rhythm with him, while jogging under the rain.

"Are you nuts?" Ethan blurted before he could stop himself, "How could do leave your car to jog beside me under this heavy rain."

"Don't complain, just accept the company. "

"Your car?"

"I'll come back for it." She winked.

Ethan's frown deepened, "You are one reckless being."

"Nice to meet you, Ethan. I hope we become good friends. "

"Then I hope we get to me more than friends. "

"I told you I am married." Ethan countered.

"And I told you I don't care." Ruby chuckled, amusement filled her eyes as she watched Ethan increase his pace and glare at her.

"So.. just Ethan huh?" Ruby asked. She had done a background check on him and found out he had no last name. There was literally nothing about him, asides being miserable and a son-in-law.

"Ethan Logan." Ethan answered.

"That's not your last name." Ruby pointed out.

Ethan's step faltered, hope swelled in his chest briefly. Does she know him too? Can she give him the answers he needs to his never ending questions?

"How do you know?" He asked instead.

Ruby gave him a half shrug, "That's your wife's family name and it is shameful to take your wife's surname and not use yours ."

Ethan jogged faster and gave enough space between them.

"You don't know anything about me." Ethan said quietly.

"Asides the fact that you are miserable and a son-in-law? Of course, I don't. Please enlighten me."

"Can't you just mind your business? Why are you getting yourself bothered with my life?"

Ruby rolled her eyes, "Isn't it obvious?"

"No." Ethan said through gritted teeth.

"I owe it up to you to make your life better." Ruby shrugged again, "after all, you made mine better."

Ethan scoffed in response.

"And I'm guessing that's your wife across the road." Ruby added.

Ethan skidded to a stop, and stared at the direction Ruby pointed.

True to her words, Isabel stood across the road, drenched from head to toe and baring her teeth at him.

"I should go say hi." Ruby said beside him.

Eyes focused on Isabel shaking body, he muttered under his breath, "run!"

Ruby stared at him in confusion. To Isabel, it seemed like the two were plotting like lovers.

"I said run!" Ethan said harshly than he intended, Isabel's indirect threat flashing through his mind.

"See you soon." Ruby muttered back and sprinted off.

Isabel's eyes followed her retreating figure till it was out of sight, then focused on her husband.

Her eyes promised every punishment there is.

Without saying another word, she spurned on her heels and stalked off towards their house.
