Chapter 8

"What are we going to do about Isabel." Victoria asked her husband, Richard, as they ate dinner alone in their room.

"What do you mean?" Richard raised an eyebrow at his wife questioningly.

"Can't you see she's not the right one for him?" Victoria sneered, glaring at her husband.

"She's old enough to do whatever she wants." Richard shrugged.

"I can't believe you!" Victoria squeaked with a horrified expression.

"I have other things to do than worry about my daughter's choice of man." Mr Richard said dismissively.

Victoria frowned. "Still on about that matter?"

"Yes, I have a meeting later, we need to discuss it."

Victoria rubbed her husband's arm soothingly, "Don't bother then, I'll handle Isabel on my own."

"Good." Mr Richard grunts on response and leaves the table as his ride notified him.

"Will you take long?" Victoria called after her husband.

"I really hope not." Mr Richard replied and disappeared through the door.

Victoria sighed and picked up her phone. She dialed a number and placed it to her ears.

"Any news yet?" She asked.

"No ma'am, " the voice from the other end replied.

"Are you saying you couldn't run a simple background check on a man?" Victoria half yelled, "A useless good for nothing one at that. "

"No matter where I input his little details, it comes up blank. I'm sorry ma'am, I don't think there's much. He is like a ghost."

"That even makes him shady. Dig up whatever dirt you can."

"What of there's no dirt to dig up." Her private investigator questioned.

"Then cook up something real. " Victoria sneered and hung up, breathing heavily. She would do whatever it takes to ruin Ethan and get her daughter out of his clutches.

*** At an underground basement ***

Mr Richard walked into the location, this time, it was an underground basement under the city's sewers. Every time, they called for the meeting, they changed places. They've never used the same place twice.

Five head of families stood around a table. The most important families.

"Come on, we've been waiting for you." One of them said. "What took you so long?"

"Traffic." Mr Richard replied and sat round the table.

"Now that we are complete, let's talk about the main reason we are all gathered around here." The anchor said in a deep clear voice.

"The Belinsky family." Another said bitterly.

"Yes. The family. Even in their death, they are still making things difficult for everyone. " Mr Richard added.

"Has any progress been made about finding their son's body?"

Everyone looked at each other grimly and shook their head negatively. It's almost ten months since the plot, ten months since Belinsky managed to escaped from the side of the road within a blink of an eye while the goons went to fetch gasoline and matches to burn his body.

"There's no he could have survived. I want to believe a stranger disposed of his body instead." Someone said.

"Even though, we need proof, or traces. Anything to proof his death." The anchor said, "we can't entertain any form of surprises later in the future."

"You are right. " Mr Richard agreed, "I'll send out my men to scout the streets. "

"And I, my men to check the waters and gutters." Someone offered.

"My men would check the train stations and every transport list." Another added

"What about hospitals?" Someone suggested,

"If you are a Belinsky, would you go to a hospital?" The anchor countered. "Let's think smart please, not hard."

"If that's all about the Belinsky boy, let's move on to the next topic. " The anchor said.

"We have a next subject already?" Mr Richard asked, looking around the table. "Let's finish with Belinsky first."

"We need to plan ahead too." The anchor said dismissively. "Our next subject is the Smith. We are already working on getting someone from the inside to work with us."

"The Smiths workers are loyal to a fault. I think we should think of another strategy. " Someone interrupted.

"Remember we tried few weeks ago, some good Samaritan decided to ruin our lives' work after thr accident. We can't risk another miracle like that?"

"Besides he would be careful now." Mr Richard contributed. "Let's try good poisoning. "

"Didn't you hear me say his..."

"Then we go through their suppliers." Mr Richard pointed out.

Everyone agreed with the idea.

"We'll meet again next time to talk about this before we execute the plan." The anchor said, " and with that, the meeting is adjourned."

"Richard. " The anchor stopped him.

Mr Richard turned back, "Is anything the problem? Do you need me to work on some anonymously?"

"No, it's fine. " the anchor chuckled and patted Mr Richard on his back in a friendly and threatening gesture, "I just want to talk about out children. "

"Our children?" Mr Richard echoed back.

"Yes, our children."

"What's wrong?" Mr Richard furrowed his eyebrows.

"My son has been singing it for a while now about how he is obsessed with your daughter and wants her for marriage. I believe he has already made his intentions known to your wife and she approves of him."

Mr Richard cleared his throat, "I think we are getting ahead of ourselves here. My daughter in question is already married. "

"I heard she is married to a man not worthy of her."

"It was her decision." Mr Richard pointed out.

"That's why we are friends, I thought we can work something out. "

"How?" Mr Richard questioned.

"I'm sure, you my friend will think of something. " the anchor patted his shoulder and bounced off, "My little Williams doesn't like to be kept waiting for long. "

Mr Richard swallowed, if he said no, he would be putting his life and this family's at risk.

No one has ever gone against the anchor and lived to tell the story. He would leave it to Victoria to do her trick, after all, she is best at manipulating people.

He dialed a number and put it to his air. The person answered on the second ring.

"Increase the search by ten. Search every nook and cranny of the streets. Also, while you are at it, get me anything you can on Williams' family." Mr Richard ordered.
