After our celebrations, I parted ways with Andrew and Robert. Of course they obviously had questions for me. But I easily dodged them with a few noncommittal answers and promised to explain everything to them tomorrow. They knew me well enough to let it completely slide although I can see their curiosity behind their expressions.

The night is cold as I walk towards my apartment. The city's night lights is reflecting off the wet pavements. While walking, I can't help but let out a hum. Victor Donnelly is finally out of the picture and now I can focus on my next plan.

I am only a block away from my building when I notice a black car parked in front of it. While wondering who is the owner of that car, the system suddenly appears in my peripheral vision.

I am also hoping for a promotion since I know to myself that I did a good performance on the last project that I handled. But as I get inside the room, I quuckly feel a tense atmosphere around me. Julius is lounging in his chair while his feet are propped up on the desk. His fingers are flicking the end of his cigar and letting the smoke curls up toward the ceiling. He doesn't bother to look at me as I stand in the doorway. The air around us is almost suffocating. Even without saying anything yet, I can already sense that something is wrong. “Mr. Julius, I heard you wanted to see me?” I said after clearing my throat. Julius looks up and meets my gaze with disdain and amusement in his eyes. “Chandler Logan” he s

When Danica gave me the room number over the phone, her tone was full of finality and felt like a slap to my face. When I finally reaches the door and pushes it open, a surreal sight welcomes me in an instant. The room is too luxurious that I can only afford in my dreams. There's a lot of huge furniture everywhere, expensive paintings on the walls, and thick carpets covering the floor. It is a huge contrast to the frugal life I've been living until now. They are quietly sipping tea and completely at ease, as if they didn't just invited me here to watch the end of my marriage and my career. My eyes flickers to Jannica first, and then to Danica, who gives me a resentful glare that makes my blood

His voice sounds neutral as if he is examining an object rather than a person. "I assume you understand that I am giving it to you not as a gift." I swallow hard and nods my head again. The weight of his words is sinking in. "I understand." I said carefully. "But why?" Mr. Harold nods his head as if he is already expecting that question. The lights of the bar is casting a dim and hazy glow over the scratched wooden tables and dusty walls inside. The air around us smells faintly of spilled beer but the sound of laughter and clinking glasses is giving the place a comforting warmth. This bar is not my first choice for celebrations. In fact, this place is miles away from the company and it takes an hour before we arrived. And yet, here we are.Andrew leans back in his chair and squint his eyes to look around the room with a confused look and amusement on his face."I've got to ask, Chandler. Out of all the places, why did you pick this one? It feels like we are in the middle of nowhere." Andrew asked.I swirl the whiskey in my glass first and pretends to contemplate his question before I shrug my shoulders. "I just feel like choosing this place."Andrew snorts at me and nurse his pint of ale. "You? Doing something without a reason? That's so unlikely." He said in a mocking voice before leaning forward. Some even gasp in surprise seeing the name of the lawyer who authorized it. I haven't meet the said lawyer in person. We just talked a few times through phone calls. But according to Mr. Harold, that lawyer is famous.Turning around, I can see Victor's face has turn into an alarming shade of red."This is preposterous!" He angrily spat. "You're just a con artist! The next day, the heaviness I felt last night after I saw Hansel Renver has finally disappeared in my chest. To be fair, I didn't regret seeing that person again. Seeing those people who made my life miserable is quite a good motivator for me and my plans.Anyway, I should stop thinking about them in the meantime. It's because today is the day where we will execute our plans. Last night, I received an email from New Leaf Corporation saying there will be a meeting for investors and it's going to be hosted at their headquarters. Since I am now the new owner of the ten percent shares that Victor previously owned, of course I will received their email. For this meeting, I will bring Robert and Andrew to act as my assistants. For today's meeting, I dressed deliberately and choose a well-tailored navy suit that shows confidence and control in other people's eyes."Are you ready?" Robert asked while nervously adjusting his glasses."As ready as I'll ever be. I replied while drinking the co

The next morning, I find myself brewing my cup of coffee. It's a ritual I always enjoyed but never seems to savor anymore. Maybe because I got busy with life before. I can still remember that I used to skip my breakfast just to make sure I would not be late with my office shift. The scent of my black coffee wafts through my small apartment. This places becomes a temporary haven for the things happening outside of my apartment. Robert, who stayed the night here because he was scared of the dark alleys in my street, is already up. He is nervously adjusting his glasses and pacing around like an anxious hamster on a wheel. He is acting like this because I showed him my text conversation with Andrew last night. I thought we should strike the iron while it's hot. Because of it, I decided to contact my best buddy again and arranged a meeting with him today. After confirming our meeting, I showed the text to Robert and informed him about it."Relax, Robert." I said while pouring two cups of
