Ferdous and Mozhgan are both rogues with modest magical prowess. They became members of an outlaw organization run by Lord Khati, an unsuccessful magician who turned gangster in the Atulla Desert. Mozhgan and Ferdous are now required by their bosses to deliver Kiran, a young child with magical skills, to the black market that very evening.

It was said that a Hersen Empire general had asked for a supply of slaves with rudimentary magical understanding. Everyone knew that the Hersen officer was hiding, even though he was dressed in a loose jacket and hood. Generally, requests for mystical beings, artifacts, and slaves originated with the Hersen people.
