“The damned dogs find this old building a perfect place to shed their weight,” the blonde receptionist was still cursing as she came to her seat. “I’ve requested the guild master to paint the building and make it look nice and all, but forget about the painting, I didn’t receive my last month’s salary. If he doesn’t give me the last two months’ salary on the 1st of the next month, then I’m out.”“Don’t speak like that, Sercy,” the old guard with one eye spoke while holding a half-empty liquor bottle. “If you leave, who’s going to take your role?”“Then you pay me the salary,” Sercy retorted, and the old guard shut up. “Thought so. Everyone can say the words because it’s easy, but only those who do the work to fulfill their words really matter. And we’re unbearably short on staff as well as the venerers. That’s why the missions we’re receiving have also fallen abysmally in terms of quality and quantity.”“Most of our guildsmen left and picked better guilds,” the old guard said, sippin
The continent where the Venture city was established was called Venturia. In the Cobra city, people with the ability to fight monsters were called mages; however, in Venturia, they were called Venerers.Mages had levels: omega, deltas, betas, alphas, and doyens. Omegas and Doyens were extremely rare, so they weren’t even used by people often.Venerers had ranks: D, C, B, A, and S. These ranks were given because there were generally five different types of dungeons that popped out on this continent.A D-rank dungeon looked like a daffodil flower, giving off a light golden yellow shine. This type of dungeons usually showed up in dark regions.A C-rank dungeon looked like a coral, giving off many mild colors. This type of dungeons generally popped out where there was water or moisture or high humidity levels.A B-rank dungeon looked like a bagel. This type of dungeons showed up in the middle of the night, generally where food was wasted. An A-rank dungeon looked like a half-cut apricot,
If there were opportunistic animals that would trouble you when you are going through your worst time, it would be cockroaches.Mutant cockroaches? Even more so.The sewage where the plant and animal matter was dumped was a perfect hiding spot for these cockroaches. However, because of a dungeon being there for too long without anybody trying to clear it, the dungeon energy mutated the cockroaches and made them stronger. Because it was only a D rank dungeon, a guard was placed outside the sewage system so the threat could be notified and dealt with appropriately when some creatures were to break out of the dungeon. No creatures came out of this D-rank dungeon to this day.Myles was running through the sewage system. In the beginning, there was only smell, but afterward, he had to trudge through layers of decayed matter. The smell was horrible and beyond description. Some of the mutant cockroaches ran and hid in the cracks and crevices after sighting Myles, but some attacked him withou
BAM~!A loud noise echoed in the tunnel as the thick tip of the frog’s tongue struck Myles’ glowing red fist. The tongue was sent thrashing back. It hit the walls on either side a couple of times before the frog managed to pull the tongue back into its mouth, but Myles was already upon it.“Die!” He jumped, somersaulted in the air, and axed a glowing kick down on its forehead. The frog’s skull cracked, but it still managed to lift its head and push him back. Though Myles landed safely on the ground, he could feel his leg trembling. “Dammit. I can’t believe I’m struggling against a frog.”He had believed that during the two months of travel, he grew much stronger just by following a set breathing pattern, but after clashing with the frog, he realized that he overestimated the breathing process.“Was the technique I used not good enough for this world? At this rate, how long will it take for me to reach the top? A decade? No, probably much longer.”Just thinking about it made him feel
Almost twenty hours later.Myles spotted a group of three frogs that were fighting among themselves very violently, using electric attacks. He had never seen frogs fight this way. They were standing on their hind legs and were swiping their forelegs at one another. These frogs had claws, and there were also star-crystals shining on their foreheads. There was the boss’ room behind these three frogs.“If I get any closer, the electricity will travel through the mud and get me, too,” Myles gritted his teeth. “I want to get to the boss’ room without fighting these frogs if possible.”Until now, Myles had killed more than fifty frogs on his own, and four of them were those with the electric ability. He suffered shocks, but because of his higher endurance level than your average human, he was able to fight without getting stunned or killed.Nevertheless, fighting three of these frogs at a time without any weapon in hand might be more than he could chew at the moment.Myles waited until the
Myles walked down a stone pavement lit up with glowing stones. There were muddy grounds on either side of the pavement, with either frozen or hibernating frogs numbered in dozens on both sides. However, Myles’ gaze was on the throne that was on the other side of the pavement. A humanoid brown frog was sitting on the throne and was smoking from a pipe. He had a cone-shaped star crystal come out of the crown of his head.“I’ve been dying from boredom and was thinking about leaving this place,” the boss frog spoke, “but someone finally showed up.” He blew smoke through his mouth, nostrils, as well as ears. “I don’t want to kill you too quickly, so…” he picked one of the swords that were next to the throne and threw it on the pavement. The sword slid and reached Myles’ feet and stopped inches away from him. “Why don’t you use that sword and kill some of my boredom first?” he whistled, and the hibernating frogs moved and converged onto Myles. There were more than 24 frogs, all of them with
“I used only half of my strength, and you’re already like this,” the boss frog stopped spinning and so also stopped the tornado that traveled along with him at the center. “I thought you’d be strong since you came in alone, but I surely overestimated you. But for killing my underlings, I’ll kill you by cutting you bit by bit.”Myles got back up, still holding onto his broken sword. His veins throbbed as he forced himself to keep releasing vera. “I can’t allow myself to be beaten by the likes of you.”“By the likes of me?” The boss frog’s pride was hurt. “Alright. I’ll show you my full power. Let’s see if you can say the same thing afterward.” He pressed his feet into the ground and made it compress as if it were a cushion.Myles frowned from seeing that.Suddenly, the boss frog leaped forth and cannoned toward Myles. Even though Myles could see him coming, the boss frog was so fast he struck Myles with his head. The sharp star crystal on his head pierced through Myles’ abdomen. A surg
“Die!” The boss frog swiftly thrust his dagger, but it barely missed Myles’ throat. However, at the same time, Myles’ ankle struck the same location as before: the ribs. And the cracks grew, causing multiple ribs to break. “Ngh!” The boss frog felt air escaping his lungs as a great pain gripped his chest.Myles threw a punch, forcing the boss frog to counter with the dagger, but Myles withdrew his punch at the last second and launched another kick. It landed well; however, the boss frog grabbed and locked his leg between the arm and torso.Myles used his support and threw another kick from the opposite side. This time to the face. Though the boss frog defended it with one hand, the strike still hit his head and made his whole brain buzz. He was forced to let go of Myles’ leg. (To think I fell for a feint…) His pride was hurt much more now.Myles didn’t give him the time to breathe. He came swinging his fist big-time, getting an immediate reaction from the pissed-off boss who swiped hi
