A groan echoed through the cavern’s emptiness, the sound breaking the heavy silence as Art slowly regained consciousness. Pain throbbed in his head, and memories of his last moments flickered back into his mind.

“We were…returning to camp when that magic circle appeared…” He trailed off as he noticed a hand intertwined with his. Turning, he saw Asura beside him, still unconscious, her face softened by sleep.

‘So, this is how she looks sleeping,’ he thought, studying her a moment longer than he intended. Gently, he slipped his hand free, adjusting to sit up as he took in his surroundings.

They were in what looked like a cave, though unlike any he’d seen. The walls were etched with ancient markings and drawings, and ethereal lights—soft greens and blues—glowed from rocks embedded in the cavern. Shadows danced across the jagged walls, giving the place an eerie, timeless feel. The concentrated mana in the air felt almost disturbing.

As he moved to stand, pain from his injuries shot throu

Asura followed close behind Art as they made their way through the narrowing tunnel. The mana concentration grew thicker with each step, pressing around them. She could understand why Art had chosen this route, though she wasn’t sure if it was bravery or recklessness that guided him since the concentration here was more than the alternative path.Still, she stayed quiet, only the soft crunch of their footsteps breaking the silence.Art, however, wasn’t alone in his thoughts. He was deep in conversation with his guide.'So, you’ve been aware this whole time?' he asked.'Not quite. It’s more like I’ve been in a light slumber. But every time I awaken, I catch up on everything that’s happened. And I must say, you’ve come far. You’re much stronger now.”The numbers didn’t lie. “Just focus on holding the walls back as long as you can. I’ll take care of the rest.” Asura’s voice was steady as she summoned an ice board beneath their feet.Art looked away toward the dark tunnel ahead, a faint smile crossing his face. “I’ll leave it to you, then.” He closed his eyes, concentrating deeply. The ice board lifted slightly, hovering above the ground as Art braced himself. With Asura’s guidance, they shot forward at the exact moment Art used his magic to push against the tunnel walls. His veins pulsed visibly under his skin as sweat gathered rapidly. The ancient magic that controlled the walls was fierce, resisting his force with relentless strength. He was putting his all into this and could feel his mana rapidly reducing with each passing second. ‘This is... intense. Who could’ve set this trap?’ Art’s mind raced, but he kept his focus, digging into his magic reserves as the walls strained against him.Asura steered them with agility and precision, dodging close call

*Step**Step**Thud*Art slowly placed Asura against the wall after walking through the exit, which was sealed behind them. Her eyes fluttered open just in time to witness Art’s transformation reverse, as his true weapon faded away.‘Just who is he?’ she wondered, studying him.Art, still feeling the lingering effects of his power, marveled, ‘Amazing. Is this what he meant? I felt that I could do anything. To think I have this much power hidden. Although I doubt that it’s something I can do of my own will. I need a way to tap into it on my own.’ His system hadn’t lied; every injury was healed, and his body felt fully renewed. But before he could bask in it, he doubled over, coughing up blood. ‘What?’ The dizziness hit hard, and he nearly collapsed before Asura formed an ice pillar to support him.“You should rest a little too,” she suggested. He nodded, sitting a few feet away to recover.‘What happened?’ he asked his guide.‘Side effects,’ came the response. ‘Your body isn’t yet st

  • The Successor System    The Hidden City

They stood in silence, gazing over the abandoned city that lay sprawled before them. From this vantage, they could see much of its extent, although the far edges vanished into a distant haze. The dominant colors were a muted gray, from the stone structures and green, where nature had reclaimed ground.Art’s mind quickly went to the possibility of an escape. ‘Sunlight from above? Maybe there’s a way out up there.’ But there were two obvious issues: the cracks letting in light were too high, and, if this was a war shelter, leaving it open from above wouldn’t make sense. To test his theory, Art conjured a towering rock spear, infused with a hefty amount of mana. With a gesture, it was sent flying upwards. Shooting straight for minutes until it collided with something invisible and disintegrated instantly, without even leaving a trace of dust. He realized, ‘It’s different from the barrier at the entrance.’Asura tried a similar tactic with a shard of ice, only to see it meet the same e

  • The Successor System    Doors of Knowledge and Mystery

The massive doors creaked open, releasing a slow, ominous rumble as shadows spilled from the chamber beyond. Inside, the darkness was so dense it seemed tangible, yet something about it felt curiously inviting. This feeling was in stark contrast to the lingering hostility that had accompanied them from the city outside. They stood at the threshold, peering into the black void. And slowly, as if responding to their presence, dim lights flared along the walls, casting a spectral glow that revealed an expansive chamber. With one final glance at each other, they stepped inside. As their feet crossed the threshold, the faint sensation of being watched, which had lingered throughout their exploration of the city, vanished abruptly. The large doors swung shut behind them, the echo lingering uncomfortably. There was no turning back now.Their gaze wandered across the grand interior. The vast hall before them was almost cathedral-like, with a high vaulted ceiling supported by massive stone

  • The Successor System    The Calling of Feathers

As the doorway to the mysterious chamber opened before them, Art and Asura were immediately hit with a powerful aura. The energy that filled the room was unlike anything they had encountered before—dense, heavy, and magnetic, pulling them in. It was as though the very air was alive.“This place…” Art muttered, his voice barely rising above a whisper. His words trailed off, lost in the overwhelming sense of wonder.Asura shot him a knowing look, her eyes bright with anticipation but tempered by caution. “We’ve come this far. We should find out what lies ahead.”Stepping cautiously, they crossed the threshold into the room.As their eyes adjusted to the dim light, they saw the vast space ahead of them, filled with items so magnificent that everything they had seen before seemed insignificant in comparison. The room was scattered with artifacts, relics, and treasures of every imaginable kind. Most of them were scattered haphazardly as if forgotten, but still pulsing with raw, untapped ma

  • The Successor System    Spirit of the FrostBorne

Art approached the box with measured caution, his hand slowly reaching for the lid. As the box creaked open, revealing its contents, his initial excitement quickly turned to confusion. The box was… empty. A faint, lingering aura of magic clung to the edges, but there was nothing substantial inside. His lips twitched in frustration."You've got to be kidding me," he muttered under his breath. "Empty? Why does this always happen?"He looked around as though expecting something else to manifest, but the box remained eerily vacant. For a moment, Art stood frozen, processing the sudden anticlimax. The allure of this place, the promise of discovery, had led him to believe that there might be something extraordinary hidden within this chamber, yet it seemed he had come across yet another mystery with no clear answer.Asura, still engrossed in her own box, did not notice Art's growing frustration. Her box shimmered with a brilliant blue light that practically blinded him as she opened it. Art

  • The Successor System    Guide’s Emotions

Art could feel the immense mana radiating from Asura, her presence suddenly more formidable than ever. 'She must have absorbed whatever power was left in here,' he thought. 'This level of energy feels on par with my true weapon's form from earlier.'Still unconscious, Asura didn’t notice as Art turned his gaze back to the empty box in front of him. Why is it empty? Was there never anything here, or did someone else come before us?The thought lingered, but he decided not to dwell on it further. As he tried to shake off his unease, his eyes drifted toward another box in the room, one adorned with the royal family’s crest. It was a bold, commanding design meant to inspire awe—a golden dragon with wings unfurled, its scales glinting as it coiled protectively around a central shield. The dragon’s gaze was fierce, embodying the family’s strength and enduring legacy.A strange discomfort settled over Art as he stepped closer to it, an ache in his head growing sharper with each step. They were good people, and he wasn’t about to reject their kindness. But he wasn’t a freeloader either. The next day, he found a merchant willing to buy some of his items. The merchant couldn’t determine the exact value of the feathers Art had collected, so he offered a low price. • A way in

Art walked through the streets behind the girl, his arms folded across his chest. He tried to stay composed despite his inner turmoil. --- Moments ago "What did you say?" "I want to thank you properly, and you seem hungry. I can't be sure of anything except that we make lovely dishes at my home," the girl said. Art took a few seconds to reply. He might have been hungry, but he still had his pride. "Ehk-hem! I actually have somewhere to eat. But if you insist, I'll take you up on your offer," he said with a straight face. His reply seemed to please her as she smiled. "My name is Yuh. Please follow me." --- And that was how he ended up like this. He hadn’t paid much attention to her earlier, but now he gauged her physical appearance. She looked slightly older than him, with several injuries and bruises—probably from when she confronted those men. They walked for several minutes, passing many people and buildings along the way. This was the first time he was freely walki

  • An Angry Man is still a Hungry Man

Art never thought of himself as some kind of hero who saved every person he didn't know in distress without expecting anything in return. In fact, he considered that kind of mindset foolish—a pointless waste of time, energy, and effort. A simple thank you wasn't enough to justify the trouble. People might call him self-centered for thinking this way, but he didn’t care. That was just how he saw the world. But there were some things even he couldn't ignore. Some acts so vile they crossed a line, and this was one of them. For someone with a 25-year-old mentality—perhaps even older, considering the memories of the life he had replaced—certain things struck a nerve. Especially when he had two younger sisters, though from different worlds. Hearing what these men had done… It triggered something in him. His golden eyes glowed as mana gathered around him, the air shifting with his rising energy. Both men instinctively took a few steps back. 'Wait… he's a mage too? But he looked so

  • Alone in the city

Fiona paced so restlessly in the main hall, arms crossed quite tightly over her chest. As soon as the weighty doors swung, her dad walked in, and she turned quickly toward him."Father! You're back!" Lord Varian, a graying, tall man who had a well-maintained beard, took off his coat, handing it to an attendant. He slightly arched an eyebrow at his daughter's tense posture. "I exist. Though, from the look on your face, something tells me you're not here to welcome me peacefully."Fiona huffed. "You won’t possibly believe the thing that happened."Lord Varian chuckled softly, moving onward toward a plush chair near the fireplace. "I think that I shall, actually." He sat down, gesturing for her to continue.Fiona wasted no time. "That very boy we saved—he tried to steal right from us! I caught him right in my own room!"Lord Varian's brow furrowed quite slightly. However, he remained completely silent, allowing her to vent."And after I then confronted him, he tried to begin making excu

  • Accused

"What are you doing here?" Art stared blankly at the girl standing just inside the room's entrance. She looked about his age, with shoulder-length auburn hair and a round, fair face that grew redder with fury with each passing second. He quickly put two and two together—she was most likely the owner of the room.He immediately tried to clear the misunderstanding."It’s not what you think," he said, instinctively raising his hands."I hoped you would be a good and sincere person, but you're just like the rest. How could you try to steal from us? You even came into my room!" she exclaimed, her voice laced with irritation and disappointment."Wait! What? Steal? No, you have this all wrong!" Art defended himself."Guards! Frier!!" she screamed loudly."I just woke up! I was checking if there was anyone around. I was really just trying to thank you guys!" Art further tried to explain.Seconds after her loud call, four people arrived.Three were men, while the fourth was a woman. The woman

Viron groaned as he regained consciousness.'What happened?' he muttered, sitting up.His last memories of talking with Zenchi resurfaced.'Wait! I actually tried to attack him?' His eyes widened in disbelief. 'What got into me? I haven’t been that angry before. Was it the stress from all the training?'He looked down at his body and noticed some bandages.'He completely rendered me useless with one casual attack? No, he only released his aura with a little mix of lightning. That was barely an attack. What a monster. How does someone even defeat someone like that?'Viron could feel most of his strength returning, so he had no trouble moving. He walked over to the window and gazed outside. The sun was slowly being replaced by the moon, casting long shadows over the academy grounds. Despite the growing darkness, people were still outside—talking, laughing, loitering. Here, as in most academies, it wasn’t compulsory to learn magic solely for battle. Especially in this era, which had mos

  • The Black Lightning God

"Ughhh! That boy just keeps making things difficult for me. Maybe I shouldn’t have taken him as a student in the first place. No! What am I even doing here in the first place? I should be on a mountain somewhere, drinking away while staring at the horizon. Now that’s life," Zenchi muttered as he walked. After the incident with Viron, he was summoned by the academy’s principal. The damage he caused was more than he expected. 'All this lack of fighting is making me lose gauge of my strength,' he grumbled. Before long, he arrived at a tall building where the principal’s office was located. The last time he was here was when he first arrived at the academy. He could sense the presence of people surrounding the building, even though they weren’t visible."Thirty-two, huh? That’s fewer than last time," he muttered as he stepped inside.Immediately, a tall woman in her thirties, dressed formally, approached him. "The principal is waiting for you," she said before leading the way.In less

  • Viron's Questions

"What did you say you did?!!""Calm down. It's just a simple spar. Why get worked up? It's not like we're trying to kill each other."Viron’s casual response made Zenchi facepalm."Have you ever seen any official public spar between family members of your age range before?"After a quick thought, Viron replied, "No.""Of course not. So you don’t understand how seriously the family takes things like this."Viron stared at Zenchi in confusion. Truthfully, he wasn’t aware of how duels in his family worked. Since childhood, he had always felt something was wrong—or rather, missing. There was an emptiness inside him, and with no direct family members to ask—since they were all dead—he was left in the dark. The only exception was his grandfather, the Patriarch of the family. But even he never paid attention to him.As a result, Viron spent most of his time in seclusion, alone. The other young Thunders then weren’t even allowed to be around him. That was why, when he got into the academy, he
