As the door closed behind Beatrice, a heavy silence settled in the room. Alana turned to James, her eyes blazing with determination. “James, no matter what Mother says, no one can stop me from marrying Calvin. Not now, not ever.”

James leaned back in his chair, exhaustion evident in his features. He let out a weary sigh, his voice tinged with resignation. “I don’t care anymore, Alana. If marrying Calvin is what you want, then so be it. My only priority now is my health. Calvin has to cure me, that’s all that matters.”

Alana’s eyes narrowed, frustration bubbling to the surface. “You’re being selfish, James. After everything Calvin has done for you, the least you could do is support us. He saved your life, for God’s sake!”

James rubbed his temples, feeling the weight of the conversation pressing down on him. “You can call it whatever you want, Alana. I’m not going to stand in your way anymore, but I’m also not going to cheer you on. My focus is on getting better, and that’s it.”
