Marianne thinks there’s been some kind of mistake.

"No, you can’t be the butler of this house. Not dressed like that!"

Anestor gets into conflict. Reginaldo had told him to wear casual clothes, but now this woman who appears to be his mother-in-law is saying he is unfit for duty.

He makes room and lets Marianne in. She goes straight to the black couch.
