"Woosh*

Grey blur was running all around him again going whichever way it wanted.

*Thud*

It crashed against the invisible barrier again and fell to the ground. Looking at it struggling like that Katsuo felt heartbroken. It had been a month since his sensei had given him Grey Blur to take care of and there still weren't any improvements. Because it was such a wild animal Aranel Sensei had put a leash spell on it.

It could only move around in a fifty-meter radius around Katsuo.

The first mission sensei had given him was to learn her name. Katsuo thought it would be an easy mission since he and Grey Blur had a history and he didn't think it would be a problem, but as long as she had any energy Grey Blur would run all around him and try to escape her leash. She wouldn't even speak a word to him.

He knew that she could understand him thanks to his skill [Polyglot] but she was refusing to even speak to him. She didn't even eat anything Katsuo had given her, instead, she would hunt when Katsuo was training with Aranel Sensei. That's why Katsuo would take walks when it was dinner time. So that she can eat her fill.

*Thud*

Grey Blur crashed against the barrier again but this time she didn't get up. Katsuo thought that she had given up. Then he noticed that she was not moving at all. Scared something might have happened to her Katsuo rushed towards her.

He noticed a trail of red liquid running down her forehead and her breathing was also shallow.

"Sensei!"

Katsuo forwent all his training and ran to Granny Scarlet. Aranel Sensei went to have a chat with her so she must be there.

"Hm? What happened son?"

"Sensei, please heal her and dispel the leash you put on her. I- I don't need a companion beast. She shouldn't be tied to me"

Aranel Sensei looked at the puppy in Katsuo's arms and then sighed.

"Are you sure about that? You should know this is an opportunity that only comes once in your lifetime"

Katsuo shook his head.

"I don't care. Some animals are not meant to be tamed and she is one of them. I think she will be happier running freely in the jungle than she could ever be with me"

Grey Blur in Katsuo's arms flinched for a second.

Aranel saw the determination in his eyes and sighed.

"I guess some things are not meant to be. This is your decision, I hope you don't regret it in the future"

Then she dispelled her druidcraft.

*Woosh*

"...What?"

The moment Aranel Sensei had lifted the magic she had put on Grey Blur it disappeared from Katsuo's hands like a gust of wind.

"Just a reminder. This was your decision, my dear son~"

Aranel just shrugged seeing the dumbfound expression on his.

"Did you also cast a healing spell on her at the same time?"

Katsuo asked dumbfounded, still trying to grasp what just happened.

"*Sigh* My dear, please face the reality. She wasn't injured in the first place. She was just faking it, banking on your goodwill. If you keep being like this, you will get played around by so many vixens in the future"

Katsuo became as red as a tomato due to his shame.

She had tricked him. Here he was thinking about how to help her but Grey Blur had taken his goodwill and trampled all over it.

"I am sorry sensei... I just couldn't bear to see it struggle so hard to escape. That's why when I saw the blood dripping from her forehead my heart was crushed but... I don't regret my decision"

Aranel Sensei gave Katsuo a big hug to comfort him.

"It's okay dearie, there will be many more people like this in the future. Those who would take your kind heart and trample all over it for their benefit. Let this be a lesson for you. Not everything might be what it seems. So be careful about who to trust. But never make this stop you from holding out your hand to the unfortunate. As an Um'rael it is your duty to help those weaker than yourself with a broad heart. Even if they might be wicked people trying to deceive. Just make sure to give them a lesson when that happens in the future"

"Yes, Sensei!"

"Okay, training is cancelled for today. Go back and ponder over today's events"

Aranel Sensei let Katsuo go and gave him a tap on the side of his shoulder.

"Understood."

Katsuo left with drooping shoulders.

"He is... kind..."

After he left Granny Scarlet spoke to Aranel.

"Yes, he is. But I don't know if this is a good thing or not. The kinder he is, the more he will get hurt by those around him in the future."

"His...heart is... strong... he survived... alone... for half a... year..."

"For his sake, I hope that it is true."

Aranel then continued her conversation with Scarlet.

At the same time in another part of the forest, a two-tailed grey puppy was zooming through the jungle.

'Ahahaha, I have escaped. I have finally escaped the clutches of that evil witch!'

She could finally run through the forest as she wished. She didn't need to be confined anymore. She didn't need to see that witch's face as she gazed at her.

That witch was actually a foreign being to her. There were no creatures like her from the memories she inherited from her bloodline. That was why she was afraid of her.

Grey blur slowed down.

But she could also not see the face of her playmate anymore. She didn't like that. Most of the creatures in this forest found her annoying and kicked her away but her playmate never got angry at her. It was fun to tease him.

She didn't like how she deceived him either.

Maybe she should go back and apologize?

No!

Then it would get caught by the witch again.

Grey Blur didn't like that.

Was getting caught a bad thing? If she got caught again she could always be together with her playmate.

It wasn't a bad thing but she despised the thought.

She didn't want to be under anyone. Her very being was rejecting the idea that there could be someone above her aside from the divine father.

But the playmate seemed sad when she ran away.

That evil witch must have caught him as well.

She had given him a mission too. That must be why her playmate was caught by the witch.

The witch must have wanted to extract information from her hence why she caught her playmate.

Oh no!

Grey Blur came to a halt.

Now that she escaped what if she did something to her playmate?

Every day she could see her beating him, left and right. She must be doing that to rend her heart.

What if the witch killed him in anger?

Grey blur shook its furry little head.

She didn't want that.

Maybe she can help him?

But how?

Wait.

Didn't the witch want to learn her name? That was why playmate kept asking her what her name was.

Then what if she told her name to him?

No! What if the witch casts some sort of curse using her name? From the memories she inherited from her bloodline, there were such bizarre abilities in the world. So if she told him her name she might fall in danger.

But what about the playmate?

Grey blur pranced around for a long time before gritting her teeth and started running again.

***

Katsuo was sitting at his camp and meditating on today's events. He felt betrayed but he thought he shouldn't blame Grey Blur either. After all, they were holding her against her will. So it was in her right to do everything in her power to escape. But did she really need to play with his feelings like that?

No, she didn't.

Still, Katsuo was also to blame. He should have released her way before it came to this. He knew that she didn't wanna be captivated so why did he force it?

Maybe because he found Grey Blur special to himself.

She was a child of the jungle just like Katsuo and she was the one that coloured his days when he was busy trying to survive.

He had hoped that maybe Grey Blur would also feel the same and eventually open her heart to him. But he was wrong. He shouldn't have forced her. Just like Aranel Sensei had said some things in this world were just not meant to be.

*Tap*

Katsuo opened his eyes to see the two-tailed puppy looking at him with her clear azure-blue eyes. Did she come here to mock him for his idiocy?

"Hewwo"

While he was thinking self-deprecating thought Katsuo heard the clear voice of a 3-year-old girl.

"...Hello?"

Katsuo waved his hand awkwardly. He knew that Grey Blur was young but he didn't know she would sound this young.

"Awia!"

"Awia?"

Grey blur shook her head like a teacher that was disappointed in her student.

"No! A-WI-A!"

"Aria?"

"Yes! Awia"

"What's that?"

"My name"

*Woosh*

Then she zoomed away like always. But Katsuo couldn't stop himself from smiling. He had finally learnt her name.

After that day Aria kept visiting Katsuo but she would run away the moment she sensed Aranel Sensei. Today was also one of those days. But today carried a deeper meaning for him. Today was the day he could finally start learning how to use mana! After his [Martial Arts: Seiryuu Style Karate] skill reached Elementary lv.9 it stopped growing. If he wanted to grow it any further he needed real combat experience, not just sparring. His sensei noticed this as well so she decided to finally teach him how to be a druid."Well then. Son, tell me how jobs are divided in this world."Aranel Sensei didn't forget to use this opportunity to test Katsuo's knowledge."Yes, Sensei! Jobs in this continent can be divided into three paths. The path of warrior, which focuses on how to use weapons and tempering the body. The path of rogue, which focuses on utility and dexterity. And lastly, the path of mage which focuses on casting spells and attuning to mana."Aranel Sensei nodded."You are correct. The

When Katsuo woke up it was already the next day. Finally! Finally, he could use mana!He was on his way to becoming the strongest man this world had ever seen!Well...Fine, maybe that was an exaggeration but thanks to his system he was at least sure that he could get into the top 10 without much trouble."It seems like you have finally woken up dearie."Aranel Sensei walked inside Katsuo's living quarters."Yes, Sensei!""Good. Now that you have set forth into the path of nature there is no turning back. I have told you about the ways of nature in the past. Now let's talk about the specifics of being a druid. You know that druids fall under the spellcaster category, then how do they get stronger?"Katsuo grumbled inside. He had just woken up and didn't even have a chance to check his stats yet but Aranel Sensei was already having another class. "Uhm, warriors get stronger by creating an aura core in their body and converting the mana they have intaken to aura. Rogues get stronger b

"Dearie, you are at an important crossroads of your future. Are you ready to make the decision?" "Yes, Sensei!" Aranel nodded her head as she prepared for the ritual. "Well, then. Let's start with what you know. What is the decision you are about to make?" "Yes, Sensei! When creating their 4th source every druid specializes in a school of druidcraft!" "Good. What are those specializations?" "They are the school of elements, the school of shapeshifting and the school of harmony" "Great! So explain to me what each of these schools specializes in" "Well, school of shapeshifting as what might be understood from its name is a school that focuses on using their animal form" "Expand on that" "Uhm, a normal druid can only have two shapeshift forms and they are permanent. Meaning, once you choose an animal to be your shapeshift form you can't change it forever. Also to register a shapeshifting form there are two requirements you have to fulfil. You either have to sign a pact with the

"No!"As Aranel saw Katsuo lay down there in his own pool of blood she didn't know what had gone wrong.Of course, this ritual he was undergoing was an important step for a druid to take but it wasn't supposed to be dangerous. It would only change his mana attribute to be more volatile but it was definitely not life-threatening. So what went wrong? As she rushed over to him she examined his body and noticed that he didn't have any pulse. His heart stopped beating?"I know you are there. Come and keep him alive!"Aranel shouted behind him and a layer of green mana covered Katsuo's body keeping him alive. It was Aria. After going through the blessing of nature together with Katsuo she had gained a new tail and now she could use nature-based spells. Aranel knew that this little lass was afraid of her for some reason. So she acted oblivious whenever she was around so that Aria could feel like she hid from her successfully but now was not the time for this. Hence why she ordered her to

Despite their time together, Katsuo still didn't know why she was so vehemently avoiding Aranel Sensei."It's fine my baby. Is there anything wrong? Do you feel weird anywhere?"Aranel put her hand over Katsuo's forehead to check his temperature.*Smack*"It's fine sensei. I don't feel weird"Katsuo smacked away Aranel's hand as he answered."Are you sure nothing is wrong?"Aranel was not convinced everything was fine. She wanted to believe that but what she did was taboo and it wasn't even guaranteed to work. Hence the reason why she couldn't believe it worked out so perfectly. There must be something wrong. It was the heart of a dragon. *Roar* Katsuo was standing in front of a towering black panther. She had lightning-shaped stripes running through her skin. He didn't know if he could come out alive from this fight but Aranel Sensei was right. If he wanted to truly belong in this world he needed to kill Relsai with his own hands. As a person from a peaceful world, the concept of killing was foreign to Katsuo. Sure, he had hunted in order to survive before but that was where the difference lay. He had killed to survive but this was different. Katsuo didn't need to kill Relsai, even if he didn't kill her he could still make a pact with one of her children. There were virtually zero reasons that he needed to kill her. He was only killing her in order to learn how it felt like to take a life. A cruel lesson from Aranel Sensei. "Stop wasting time and come now, boy!" Relsai roared once again inviting Katsuo to attack her. The fact that she didn't attack him already was her showing Katsuo some consideration. She obv

By the time Katsuo had returned it was already evening. Sven and Gail still had not arrived so he decided to wait. He was not a detective, the play he put on in front of the Fatty was already the limit of his abilities. So his only job now was just to wait and learn where the girl was being held and then beat up some kidnappers. Speaking of which Fatty truly surprised Katsuo. He had already thrown out the idea that he was the kidnapper because of his demeanour and actions. In fact, he didn't even think he was a bad guy at all. Why though? He was not an easily trusting person... at least he thought so. Did that mean Fatty messed up with his brain in some way? That was impossible. If there was even a hint of magic involved he would have sensed it. Maybe there was something in the whiskey? No way, he had cast [Detoxcification] on it so that was not possible either. Maybe he used some psychological tricks on him, after all, he was a politician. That last one was a little probable but at

According to him aside from the mayor, there was no one else they had any enmity with so that was Katsuo's first clue, Gail said she could ask around about her to her old contacts and Sven decided to do his own thing. When asked what he meant by that Sven said just leave it to him and brushed him off. He had never questioned before maybe Sven also had some connections with gangs here but that was impossible as he was from Horwaard. However, when Katsuo thought about where to ask about the mayor he noticed a crucial problem in his plans. He didn't know anyone in Dawn. His sister and Kalrune had already returned to their countries. He wasn't some gruff noir detective who could understand how everything went down by piecing together some rumour either. So Katsuo thought about his own advantages. For one, he was a transmigrator with a lot of popular culture knowledge when it came to isekai genre. So he as

After his party members returned Katsuo started to talk with the boy to learn about his situation."So you said your sister was kidnapped?" He asked the boy cautiously. From his get up he looked like a beggar but his face was well defined despite the bruises so there was a high chance that his sister was a beauty as well. That would explain why his sister was kidnapped but Katsuo had no intention of getting ahead of himself. It was better to hear the situation first-hand from the concerned party."Yes, today she was kidnapped by a bunch of ruffians. I don't even know who they are and why they targeted us. Please help! I am begging you. If the money is not enough I can find more."The boy started to speak in haste. He was really panicked but what he said was of no help at all."I wanted to ask about that. We just had something important going on so we couldn't come to pick you up. Right, Sven?" Katsuo lied as naturally as he breathed. Aria peeked under Katsuo's shirt and wrinkled her nose. "Ugh, stinky. Playmate who is this? She smells awful" Aria said as she covered her nose with her tiny little paws. Hearing that Gail got self-conscious and smelled her armpits but she couldn't smell anything. She as a budding young lady was very disturbed by such accusations. "Uhm, are you sure about this?" Katsuo couldn't hold back his curiosity and asked after leaving the meeting. "About what? Saving hundreds of thousands of lives?" "But just like that fatty said isn't the Greywulf estate your ancestral home?" This was the part that eluded Katsuo. He was from a lineage of martial artists and their family held onto their traditions for centuries. So selling their ancestral home was something he couldn't imagine. That was why he wanted to ask Kalrune how he did it. "Home is where you make it. Also, I wasn't joking when I said Greywulf estate is its people and not the land. My father would also agree with me. After all, he was the one who taught me this. Being a noble means 'being responsible for your subjects'." As Kalrune spoke about his father his face brightened up. Katsuo could see that Kalrune treasured him greatly so this made him curious about the strongest man on the continent Brevok Greywulf. Just what kind of person was he? A cold Duke of the

"You heard me right. Kingdom of Oedl decided to 'sell' Greywulf estate to Denstria" Kalrune repeated himself."Of course, since you have a legitimate casus belli this land belongs to Denstria so we will withdraw but as we were the ones that were taking care of it for so long you guys need to pay us for our services. After all, if it were not for the 'current' Greywulf house the land would already have been ravaged by the monsters long ago. So it is only right that you guys pay us."The glasses guy from Denstria frowned while pondering. This was out of his considerations for how the meeting would go. Kalrune was pacing around in his room thinking about how to stop this impending war. This time Denstria was coming at them for real without any intention of stopping with measly threats. Otherwise, they wouldn't have pulled out the trump card they had been hiding for centuries. The question was why now? There were times in Oedl's history when they were way weaker than they were now. In other words, this plan was something in the making for a long time.At first, Kalrune had thought this was going to be another small skirmish to cull the forces of Greywulf Duchy as after Archmage Karrion's death his father became the undisputed strongest man in the world so of course this reputation had its pros but that was about it.Now Denstria was aiming for swelling Greywulf whole... but why?Even as a person who was born and raised in Greywulf estate Kalrune couldn't see any point to this.Sure it was acting as a shield against Denstria but even if they took down the Greywulf estate they would ju

Katsuo nervously walked behind the elven strider. He tried to read his status window but as usual, the damn thing didn't work when he needed it to work. As they walked forward Katsuo remembered what he had learnt about striders. They were a subclass of warrior profession but they had extremely harsh requirements so usually only elves could become one, which made sense considering elves were the ones who created the profession. The speciality of striders was their endless regeneration. He wasn't sure about its authenticity but he had heard once heard from Aranel that even if you decapitate them master rank striders could grab their heads and reattach them and keep fighting like nothing happened.Of course, their fighting style also was one that favoured mutual destruction. They didn't care if their arms were chopped as long as they could leave one wound in their enemy. In this way, they sounded like berserkers but unlike those glass cannons, these guys were anti-aircraft cannons.
