Chapter 2

Alex hurriedly left the hospital in shame after the Nurse humiliated him. The only means he could think of was going to the restaurant where he worked as a cook to request for money. Even though Mr Austin has been an abusive and inconsiderate boss, he was left with no choice but to go see him and request a loan to save his daughter's life.

“Good morning sir”, Alex greeted as he worked into his boss's office. 

“ what is good about this morning “ Mr Austin said angrily 

“Why are you just coming to work? You ought to have been at work, 2hours before now” 

“I…l….My… My…”  Alex said as he stammered 

“ shut up you this good-for-nothing man” Mr Austin interrupted Alex before he could complete his sentence.

“ you are here to run down my business? “ 

“ Do you think I am a fool? or you can play those useless deceit games on me?” Mr Austin shouted.  

I am asking you for the last time. “ why are you late fool” Mr Austed asked in a very angry manner as he was furious. 

“ My daughter is sick,” Alex said 

“ How is that my business? Why don't you quit your job and babysit your daughter, useless man” 

“ Sir, I need an amount of $20000  for my daughter's surgery, I will work for you to repay back the loan,” Alex said with his face down as he could barely look at his boss.

“ you need what?  I will never give you such money, go and find another way to sort your daughter's surgery money.  “ Mr Austin said. 

“ Please sir, I really need this money and it is urgent” Alex pleaded. 

Just as Alex was still in his boss's office asking for help, his co-worker came in 

“ good for nothing man you are here, aren't you supposed to be at your duty post,” Eric said. 

“ Sir, do you know Alex has yet to do anything today and has not even reported to his duty post” Eric told Mr Austin. 

Eric is said to be the Boss's favorite and someone who makes the work environment unfavorable for Alex. 

He did everything in his power to make sure Alex got a query. 

“ My daughter is very sick, and I need some money  for her surgery, that is why I am late,” Alex said. 

Before he could explain further, Mr Austin removed a letter from his drawer  and handed it over to Alex. 

“ This is for you,” he said handing over the letter to Alex. 

Alex with all forms of curiosity, collected the letter from his boss and opened it. It was a sack letter. 

“ you are relieved from your job, I think you will have enough time to babysit your daughter in the hospital, “ Mr. Austin said with no form of empathy. 

“ Sir, please she is sick, I need money for her surgery, I will work to refund any money you give  me,” Alex said 

Alex was not done talking when his phone started ringing. 

“ Hello, Mr. Alex, you have 20 minutes to get here with the money for your daughter's surgery, “ A voice said. 

That same voice sounded like that of the nurse he met at the hospital. 

“ I am still looking for the money for surgery, can you please go on with the surgery I promise to pay you back as soon as I can get the money,” Alex said in a pleading manner. 

“ You must be joking, you are just an unreasonable man.  You aren't even worthy to be a father” the nurse said those words to Alex ending the phone. 

Alex felt his heart pierced with thousands of arrows. Those words said to him by the nurse were heartbreaking and humiliating. 

He could barely say a word. He took his sack and walked out of his ex-boss office. 

He wandered through the street, he felt cold hair within him. He did not know whether to feel angry, sad, or disappointed. As he walked through the street, he removed his phone from his pocket to call his wife's number. 

He called the number first, but she didn't pick up called the second time. 

“ Hi, Alex, what do you want? I am having a great time of my life  “ she said as a less concerned person. 

“ where are you? Our child is sick, and we need money for surgery. Please, we need to pay some amount of money for the surgery  “ Alex said to his wife. 

“ You should be a man and be able to take care and full responsibility for your child. Is it my fault that you are poor? , “ she said. 

“ Her condition is critical, I can't afford to lose my daughter, “ Alex said. 

“ I don't care if she dies, I made a made a mistake marrying you” Her words were bad and didn't sound like that of a mother. 

“ Try to be responsible for once and sort things out,” Vivian said. 

“ I know, and I am trying. Just help with the money, I will refund you as soon as I raise the money. He said in a very low tone. 

“ Rubbish, I don't have money for that now, and moreover you are distracting me, I am having fun and living the best of my life that you can't give me” . Vivian yells over the phone before ending the call. 

“ How can a mother be like this, with no sense of empathy for her child, “ Alex said. 

He could barely comprehend why his wife had changed into someone she wasn't. I can't be living in this kind of life and uncertainty. 

He doesn't know what, who to ask, and where to generate money for his daughter's surgery.

As he walked through the road, he stopped a taxi which led him to the hospital. Has he closed the door of the taxi all he could think of was how to generate money for his daughter's surgery. 

He walked into the hospital, humiliation, anger, and an overload of negative emotions began to overwhelm Alex‘s heart. He felt like all hope was lost.  His stronger emotions right then were that of bitter disappointment and frustration. 

“Useless poor brat”

“Irresponsible father “ 

“You just lost your child “These are the words from the nurse as she approached him.

“ We waited for you to come with the money for the surgery, but you spent the whole day wherever you went,” the nurse said. 

Alex was so furious and angry, that his wrist folded as he was about to issue a punch. 

“Where is my daughter?  You killed my daughter” You will pay for this, Alex said with great annoyance and anger. 

He could not contain his anger, so he went into the doctor's office. He moved close to the doctor and held him by his coat

“Why would you allow my daughter to die?”

“ The innocent girl,  you all will pay for this, I don't know how but I am certain you will pay for this,” Alex said angrily as he held the Doctor by his coat. 

The Doctor forcefully removed his coat, pushing him away. 

“ you have no money, and you expect me to treat your child. I remember telling you I don't run a charity home but a hospital” the doctor said. 

The Doctor quickly rushed to the hospital phone to make a call. 

“ I need security now, I have a lunatic in my office,” he said. 

“Yes sir” a strange voice replied. 

Just in a few minutes, 2 security men came in and bundled Alex out of the hospital premises. He was kicked out like a poor man. He was in so much pain and distress. 

He walked out of the hospital premises seamlessly.  His Phone rang and it was.….
