Chapter 2: Assassination
Everybody has a zen core within themselves, it supplies energy for the body to run and keep function, its importance is no less than that of the heart and its location was just beneath the navel which was the centre of the body.
Like arteries and veins run from the heart to every part of the body, energy pathways sometimes known as zen pathways run from the core to every part of the body, the pathways passes through organs, muscles and tissues, through veins and arteries constantly supplying the zen that one either absorbs from the surroundings or that one digests from meals.
Just like a man cannot survive without his heart one can’t survive without their zen core as its destruction would lead to inevitable death, there are weak cores and strong core but there has never been a recorded case of someone born without a core, Aldrin is the first case or perhaps the first recorded case.
Aldrin took in a deep breath and closed the book he was reading, he looked out of the window and spotted the sun sinking slowly into the horizon, bathing the skies in a fiery red afterglow, the library was lit brightly by bulbs that glowed in white fluorescent light, in the whole clan this was his favourite place to be.
Not many people visited the library which made it that there was a very slim chance of him encountering anybody and if by any bad luck he did encounter someone they would be too busy with their studies to pay him any attention.
If only he was the son of a servant then his life would probably be ninety percent less miserable than it currently was as there wouldn’t be anyone to even pay him attention to begin with but being the powerless son of one of the most powerful man didn’t give him that luxury, he was in the limelight no matter where he was and even if they tried to hide it, the ridicule was evident in their faces and their words while some didn’t even bother hiding it.
While in thought an energetic teenager suddenly appeared before him, his fiery red hair swishing about each time he shook his head.
“Ah, I knew I’d find you here big brother, let’s head home before it gets dark” He announced in an overly cheerful voice and Aldrin smiled brightly.
Of everyone he had met there were only three people who treated him like a normal person, looking beyond his disability like it never existed and those three people he loved dearly ready to sacrifice anything for them, this younger brother of his was one of them.
“Alright little brother let’s head home.” Aldrin said with a warm smile as he gazed into his brother’s dark eyes, something they both inherited from their father.
Heading out of the library they passed through a garden taking their time to savour the beautiful scenery of the setting sun against the flora and fauna.
“Brother I heard that you’ll be having a test to determine if you’ll be selected as heir in the next coming of age ceremony.” Fabien suddenly declared in an excited tone making Aldrin’s eyebrow suddenly shoot up in surprise
“If you spent more of your time training rather than in gossips you’d improve better, have you completed the principles of circuits and the basic arrays that I gave you two days ago?” Aldrin reprimanded his brother while bonking his head lightly with his fist, this made Fabien pout while rubbing his head exaggeratedly.
“It’s not called gossip when you’re gathering important information, also I heard that you have quite the chance of passing the test.” He replied with a grin and Aldrin smiled while shaking his head
“I’d rather not get involved in mindless struggles, it would be better if you were the clan leader and I was your adviser, after all you’re stronger but too stupid to do something so complex, so I’ll back you up with ideas and strategies to keep winning.” Aldrin said and Fabien suddenly hugged his brother’s arm with an excited expression only for the excitement to turn into disappointment almost immediately
“If only I had a chance.” The younger brother murmured, during this time they had walked from the garden into a park with tall trees everywhere and underneath the setting sun they cast several large and long shadows which darkened the area considerably.
Aldrin suddenly paused and his right hand shot up towards the hilt of the sword hanging across his back
“What’s wrong big brother?” Fabien asked with a raised eyebrow
“There’s something wrong, I sense danger nearby.” Aldrin replied grimly and Fabien wore a wary expression as he looked around vigilantly
“I can’t see……” he was speaking when suddenly a metallic glint appeared in the corner of his eye striking towards Aldrin from his blind spot, as though possessing eyes behind his back Aldrin unsheathed his sword and in one fluid motion swung it in a wide arc while spinning around successfully parrying the attack.
Failing the assassination the attacker took two leaps backwards putting some gap between themselves and Aldrin.
“Just as they said, your combat sense is really superb but unfortunately you’ll die here today.” The assassin said, his voice revealing him to be a male as his entire body was covered in pitch black robes that didn’t reveal anything but his eyes.
“With just you, I don’t think that would be possible.” Fabien said with a sneer and almost instantly his hands began to move, making hand signs and mudras while his lips moved as he mumbled an incantation.
“Fire arrow barrage.” He concluded after a little more than three seconds and suddenly a myriad of arrows conjured from flames appeared before flying towards the assassin rapidly but just as they were about to hit him he suddenly vanished into a puff of black smoke.
“He’s a bona-fide zen practitioner.” Fabien said with a fearful expression and Aldrin nodded grimly.
“Who told you I’m alone.” suddenly a voice called from atop one of the branches and several figures began revealing themselves from hiding spots surrounding the brother duo, this was an obviously planned assassination attempt and it wasn’t an ordinary one as it extremely hard for ordinary people to enter their clan, someone within the clan was aiding them.
“A twenty man team, five on the outside, three to the east four on the south, two on the north and six on the west, a basic interference formation, escaping won’t be easy.” Aldrin said lowly as he surveyed his surroundings and analysed the positioning of his opponents.
“What are you talking about big brother?” Fabien whispered back as he noticed his brother mumbling to himself.
“Their positioning might seem random but their currently in a formation that allows them to block signals going away from this zone by releasing light zen pulses at intervals. Basically we won’t be able to call for help.” Aldrin replied with a sombre tone, hurriedly Fabien dipped his hand into his clothes and fished out a hand held device with a small display screen and a hard surface upon which one could inscribe letters, using his finger Fabien quickly wrote a string of words on the writing surface but the screen remained blank.
“Don’t bother, we’ve blocked all communications, it would be better if you just died obediently.” The male assassin said before leaping off the tree and dashing towards Aldrin again, several of the others who were dressed just like him began weaving hand seals while chanting an incantation.
“They’re after me, I’ll try opening a path for you to escape and get help.” Aldrin said before dashing to meet the sword of the first assassin while dodging spells and attacks from the others, a few others were also zen warriors which made his battle more intense as he had to face more than one opponent.
“I’ll help you big brother.” Fabien declared in a loud voice filled with indignation as he began weaving hand seals as fast as he could trying to defend himself and support his brother.
Just a few minutes had passed but for Aldrin it felt as though a few hours had passed, varying degrees of injuries adorned his body but none of them were fatal he stroked a pair of bracelets he always wore on both hands and the sword in his hand hummed with power causing it to glow in a crimson hue.
“As expected of the young master of an ancient clan, you possess so many lifesaving treasures, even without a zen core you managed to last longer than most practitioner grade and amateur grade zen practitioners.” A voice appeared behind Aldrin and before he could react a sword pierced through his abdomen.
“Brother No!!!!.” Fabien roared and his eyes narrowed into slits as his pupils suddenly turned reptilian, the right arm of his clothes burned off to reveal a pitch black dragon tattoo spanning across his entire arm, his aura spiked up instantly exceeding his former grade and reaching the next grade, his hands moved faster than ever as he used a zen technique.
“Fire Dragon Roar!!!” he bellowed and a three metre fire dragon appeared, the assassin was about to escape but Aldrin would have no such thing, he swung his arm and grabbed the assassin by the collar just before he vanished pulling him over he stabbed his sword through him before turning him to face the incoming flaming dragon but right before the dragon made impact with the assassin the dragon weaved around and struck Aldrin instead, sending him flying a few metres backwards.
Chapter 3: AwakeningAldrin coughed severally, normally his robes were enhanced with a circuit array allowing him to tank a considerable amount of impact without taking damage, but having fought for about five minutes the protection was already wearing out and with a sword piercing through the robes many of the circuits were damaged reducing the protection the robes offered by a large amount allowing the fire dragon deal more than seventy percent it’s total damage.“How?” Aldrin managed to growl as he wiped out the blood dripping from the corner of his lips while trying to stand up, although Fabien wasn’t the best fighter there was it wasn’t to the point of making such blunder, the panicking expressions that was on Fabien’s face throughout the fight was suddenly nowhere to be found instead was a ridiculing and disdainful sneer, an expression which he wouldn’t find surprising if only he saw it on anyone else that wasn’t his brother.“They say geniuses are often so stupid and I must say
Chapter 4: Quest of AcknowledgementAldrin’s eyes opened slowly and light flooded into them causing him to close them rapidly with a light wince.“The young master has awakened, relay this to the lord.” A female voice suddenly called out and a figure dashed out of the room closing the door behind as she left, Aldrin slowly sat up and surveyed the room he was in and quickly recognized it to be his room. Not far from the bed was a table that was tidy and yet messy at the same time as a plethora of reading and writing materials were displayed across, aside from that table there wasn’t anything noteworthy of in the room, everything else was exquisite and yet simple.“How is your health sir?” A small lady approached Aldrin and tried taking his hand to feel his pulse but suddenly Aldrin stretched his hand and gripped her throat tightly threatening to strangle her.The lady trashed wildly while sobbing and begging for mercy but no matter what she did Aldrin didn’t release his grip on her nec
Chapter 5: The SystemAldrin read through as he listened to the voice read into his head, basically it was just a summary of what he had read in the scroll his father gave him.“What are you exactly?” Aldrin asked feeling quite stupid as he didn’t know if there was someone controlling what he saw and heard or if they would even reply him.[I am the spirit system bound to you.] The voice replied him as the string of words before his eyes changed“Are you an ally?” he pressed further trying to glean as much information as he could and the most important of which he needed to know was to confirm if it was a symbiote or a parasite.[It is the job of the system to ensure its host grows stronger and more powerful so the system could be considered an ally to its host.] The mechanical voice replied in its monotone.Aldrin thought for a few moments, he didn’t know much yet but for some reason he felt that the so called system was akin to an artefact or a tool whose sole purpose was to empower
Chapter 6: Visit to the ancient gryphon clanThe carriage soon arrived in front of a pair of majestic gates of the Gryphon Clan. Two imposing stone pillars, adorned with intricate carvings of gryphons in various poses - soaring, battling, and guarding treasure - support a grand arch topped with a proud gryphon with its wings spread wide. The warm, golden stone, weathered by centuries, exudes the aura of great strength and deep heritage. Gryphon-shaped door knockers gaze out from either side, several glyphs adorn the pillars, and torch holders shaped like gryphon talons hold unlit torches. Flanking the gates, two imposing stone gryphon statues stand guard, complemented by armed, armored clan guards bearing the Gryphon Clan's insignia, standing before them Aldrin couldn’t help but feel as though the Gryphons would come alive the very moment there was a slight sign of danger which made the guards seem more like a decoration instead. As soon as the carriage reached the gates the formerly
Chapter 7: Competition beginsAldrin returned to his clan compound and began preparations, the entire clan was in a state of activeness as discussion about the upcoming contest was on everyone’s lips.In a few minutes they were all gathered in a large colosseum, where each of the contestants and their forces were displayed as a show of might and intimidation. There were five including Aldrin, they were Akibrus Draca, Damian Draca, Orion Draca who was a step brother to Akibrus and lastly Azura Draca who was the only female in the mix.Amongst all five Aldrin had the smallest amount of forces with only three hundred and one warriors with the extra one being part of the resources he got from his bargain with the ancient gryphon clan,Following him was Azura who had a warrior count of a little over seven hundred following her was Akibrus who had a warrior count of a thousand men, Orion had one thousand two hundred men and Damian possessed one thousand five hundred men. This display also s

Chapter 9: Unexpected DevelopmentThe weapons and sealed scrolls were quickly distributed with enough to go round the three hundred-man team.“Jon, you can begin the raid, the rest of you get in position, you uh- what you’re name?” Aldrin began giving instruction but when he turned to the lady beside him he realized that he had no idea what her name was.“My name is Amara.” She replied and Aldrin nodded in acknowledgement“You’ll stay with me here.” He added.Just as the soldiers were about to disperse Aldrin quickly stopped them and passed a small device to each of the three team leaders, it was a small two piece device with one of them shaped like a comma while the other looked rounded but with a short handle.“These are communication devices, I might need to relay messages to each of you.” He said as he explained the device to them and immediately after they dispersed each taking position.Jon then led a team of fifty towards the gates of the fortress, each of them was armed with r
Chapter 10: Levelling UpAldrin considered getting the grandmaster with him to make a move but he knew that would put him in a negotiation disadvantage later on, moreover there was also the mission from his system, he wasn’t sure if it would count as a success or failure if he got someone else to do it for him.He pulled up his system interface and began to go through it again trying to see if he could find something useful, glancing through it for the second time he noticed something he hadn’t noticed before now, next to his title was a small inverted triangle. He clicked on the arrow only for a pop-up to appear.[Basic Title;Trash: Allows user to diminish his aura to the point where he is actively being ignored by everyone, placing him in a state of psychological invisibility. Chapter 15: Fighting the bone generalAfter several minutes of turbulent practice with him rising and diving like a billowing wave he was finally able to control himself to a certain extent, he shot towards a mountain peak, this was where the final battle was to hold. It was the highest peak within the demiplane and on top of it was a gigantic skeleton, it didn’t take any diviner to tell him that was the final boss, the bone general. On his way he couldn’t help but marvel at the sheer number of skeletons that littered the terrain, it wouldn’t be wrong to call it a forest of bones, there were some bones that obviously didn’t belong to humans or any creature he could even recognize, on a normal day he wouldn’t even be able to fight his way to the top should all these skeletons suddenly animate, even if he were stronger, their sheer number was more than enough to overwhelm him and wear him

Chapter 13: EvolutionAldrin took in a deep breath and a wide smile formed behind his helmet, slowly he began to descend the hill and into the valley, these soulwings would probably be the greatest harvest of this expedition, this much was sufficient to help promote quite a number of grandmaster to supreme master but he wasn’t about to let anyone get his hoard. If it were anyone else who wasn’t a grandmaster then they would have no use for the soulwings except to just stare at them because if anyone lower than a grandmaster were to attempt absorbing one, the excessive energy contained within would instantly blow up their souls, perhaps a master could attempt to absorb one under careful supervision and help of a grandmaster but they couldn’t take beyond one and yet within the valley was about a hundred of them but Aldrin on the other hand had a spirituality at the same level as that of a grandmaster, absorbing th
Chapter 12: The Forgotten BattlefieldEven before he read the description the moment he equipped the armour he could feel power welling up within him as well as a dense desire to slaughter, equipping the full set raised its grade by one which further enhanced it, the attached abilities for every equipment was even more fantastic, some of them were passive while others were active but all combined gave birth to a great killing machine, his stats were now reaching the three hundred threshold putting him on par with average Zen warriors and he knew deep down that he could fully tussle with even the stronger ones, he took notes of the new stats bonuses that the armour gave but weren’t reflected directly on his profile such as movement speed, attack speed, critical hit chance, damages and resistances. From a simple thought he deduced that movement and attack speed were reliant on his agility, damage was most likely related to hi
