“Perhaps we should retire for the night.” Mason suggested as he hedged back slowly. He felt hurt that she doubted him, but he obviously could not fault her for it. He was the one that chose to lie, the one that decided to lock her out, something he just realized he might have done unconsciously. He tried to put himself in her shoes and realized he would have felt very betrayed indeed, it was not just a secret he kept from her as he had originally thought, it was a whole part of himself shrouded in secrecy and made unavailable to his wife, something he should have been accountable to at crucial times. This decision to lock her was not as necessary as he once thought it was, he made a cowardly choice, and he had to reap the result. He clenched his trembling hands in a fist.
