Elicia was mute as she glared at her plates and nothing else. She could believe how the evening turned out. She had planned it out thoroughly, and should Mason have played his part by keeping mute, then none of this shame and humiliation would be taking place. 

To her of all people, Elicia thought as she clenched her hands into fists, very much aware that the remaining family seated around the table Mason and his snobby wife had just vacated were glaring at her, and sympathizing with her simultaneously. 

She clenched her fists even tighter, ignoring the way her spiky rings bit into her hands and she stiffened as she felt a thick slimy liquid run down her palms but she ignored it, in a way it helped, the pain distracted her from the shame and she scoffed at the irony.
