“Professor D. A. Gary?” Mr Mathew queried, his voice a bit high pitched than intended.

Tangie and Archer approached the lunch table, their expressions filled with hope for approval.

Mr Mathew glanced at Tangie, gazing at her with both concern and curiosity, “Are you okay with this? I mean…” he paused, shifting his attention to Archer.

Tangie’s unease was evident in the way she held on to Archer’s hand under the table. “It’s alright, dad. We need all the help we can get.”

“But he…”

“Dad,” Tangie interrupted cautiously.

Mr Mathew exhaled softly, resigning into his seat. It was at the tip of Archer’s tongue to ask about the seeming history between the Professor and his wife, but it was clear that Tangie would rather not talk about it, so he remained quiet.

With his gaze steely fixed on Archer, he asked. “I hope no one is pressuring you into anything…”

Tangie nodded weakly. “Yes, Dad.”
