Chapter 28: The Ultimate Test

“I’ve invited Daddy to have dinner with us tomorrow night.”

Jake nearly choked on his wine. “What?”

“It’s going to be his last supper,” said Diamond, giggling at her joke.

“That’s not even funny.”

“It’s what you want, isn’t it? My father is a threat to you and you want him gone. Why are you acting shocked now?”

“Ok, fine. You’ve made your point. Leave him alone. I just wanted to be sure that you were on my side and that I wasn’t getting played again.”

In all honesty, the thought of killing someone didn’t sit well with him even though he wouldn’t be the one to pull the trigger. But knowing that he ordered a hit on Zeus and that his daughter was the hitman, seemed incredibly cruel of him.

“I can’t imagine someone encouraging Victoria to kill me in future,” he said. “I don’t want that kind of karma.”

“If Victoria feels that you’re a threat to her life or the one she deeply loves, she’ll do it.”
