“What a joke!” Aria sneered after hearing Ethan’s words. There was no way that his words would be true. She thought Ethan was bluffing. After all, why would someone like him be an important guest at a dinner hosted by the powerful Crestwood family?
Just looking at his poor outfit alone, he didn’t even fit in among the city’s elite. How then would he be the important guest to the powerful Crestwood family?
It was obvious that he was blatantly lying to their faces. He was a boastful fraud after all.
It appeared that it wasn’t just Aria who thought the same way, as the crowd joined in and started to insult Ethan.
“Do you really expect us to believe that?” one of the audience uttered, and the rest of the crowd murmured in agreement, with several of them glaring at him with disdainful sneers.
“You have quite the imagination.” Greg, ever eager to humiliate him, remarked with a mocking smirk.
“It’s not too late to back out of this lie you’ve told before you embarrass yourself even more.” Greg added smugly, his words eliciting a round of laughter from the crowd.
“I’m not lying.” Ethan said calmly, not flinching at all. His expression remained as cool as a cucumber as he stood there, unbothered by the taunts directed at him.
Greg was irritated by Ethan’s calm demeanour, but just as he was about to mock him even more, his phone buzzed loudly in his hands. He briefly glanced at the caller ID, and a smug smile appeared on his face.
“Look everyone, my father is calling.” Greg announced, drawing everyone’s attention to him once more.
“Let’s see what my father has to say about this so-called ‘important guest’.” Greg declared.
The crowd leaned in, the tension thick in the air as Greg answered the phone call. He put the call on speaker as he wanted everyone to hear the details of the phone call. Aria, alongside the other guests, listened keenly, anticipating the truth and waiting eagerly for Ethan to be exposed as a liar.
“Hey, Dad.” Greg answered as soon as the phone call connected. “Has the dinner started already?”
There was a brief moment of hesitation on the other end of the phone call, and just when everyone was questioning if his father heard him, the voice of Charles Holden came through.
“The dinner won’t hold anymore, son. It’s been cancelled.” Charles Holden said firmly, his voice curt, but the strain in his voice was poorly hidden.
The words hung in the air like a bombshell, shocking everyone into silence.
Greg blinked in disbelief, his confidence faltering as he processed what his father had just said.
“What? Cancelled? Why?” Greg stammered, trying his best to mask his confusion.
“The important guest cancelled at the last minute, so they decided it was best to postpone the dinner to a later date. It’s nothing to worry about.” Charles replied as he scrambled for an excuse, his tone suddenly casual, as though the change of plans was no big deal to the Holden family.
The colour drained from Greg’s face as he ended the phone call, and the crowd began to murmur again, but this time in confusion. Aria’s gaze flicked toward Ethan, who stood calmly with a stoic expression on his face. He did not appear the least surprised by the content of the phone call, as though he had expected it all along.
The possibility that Ethan had been telling the truth began to worm its way into her mind, and her heart raced wildly at that thought.
Could it be?
Could Ethan Blackwell—this seemingly ordinary man—actually be someone important? Someone her grandfather wanted her to marry? The very idea sent a shiver down her spine.
She glanced around at the others in the crowd and noticed some of them were starting to doubt as well.
“I don’t believe it,” Natalie, Aria’s best friend, cut in harshly. She stood next to Aria with her arms crossed tightly over her chest.
“He’s just guessing. There’s no way he’s actually the reason the dinner was cancelled. He’s probably just a fraud.” Natalie said harshly. She did not want to believe that the man she disliked so much was someone who was more important than her.
Greg, trying to regain his composure, jumped in to back Natalie’s claim.
“Exactly. It’s pure coincidence. Don’t get your hopes up, Ethan. You should apologise to everyone here for wasting our time.”
Ethan didn’t budge, his expression remaining calm.
“I don’t think I owe anyone an apology,” he said evenly, his voice cutting through the murmurs around him.
“If anything, some of you should think twice before jumping to conclusions.”
Gregory’s face flushed with anger. He couldn’t stand the way Ethan remained so composed, as if nothing could shake him. Desperate to salvage the situation, Gregory turned to the crowd with a grin.
“Well, in that case, I’ll make sure everyone’s evening isn’t ruined. How about I treat all of you to dinner at the Crystal Hotel? I’ll pay for everyone’s meal, except Ethan's, of course!”
The announcement was met with cheers and applause from the crowd. Once again, Greg was back in the spotlight, earning everyone’s admiration. Several people congratulated him, patting him on the back, as though he had just saved the night.
Aria watched as Gregory basked in the praise, but something about the whole situation didn’t sit right with her. Her mind kept drifting back to Ethan, who stood quietly in the background, untroubled by Gregory’s actions.
“Guess you’re not invited to that dinner, Ethan.” Natalie said, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she sidled up to Ethan.
Ethan’s gaze flickered toward her, but before he could respond, another voice cut through the crowd.
“I think I’ll be having dinner with Mr. Ethan,” said a confident, feminine voice.
Everyone immediately turned to see Victoria Lennox, the elegant manager of the prestigious Crystal Hotel, making her way through the crowd of guests, and hushed whispers instantly echoed among the crowd at her words.
Victoria Lennox was known for being extremely selective about who she spent her time with, and she was rarely seen socialising with the guests she hosted. So many rich and wealthy young men had offered to take her out for dinner, but she always turned them down without fail.
“What?!” Greg exclaimed as his jaw dropped, a bewildered expression on his face. He had once asked Victoria Lennox out to dinner, and she rejected him instantly! Now, she was offering to take Ethan, who was a nobody, to dinner.
“You heard me.” Victoria continued, a small smile gracing her lips.
“I’ve already invited Mr. Ethan for dinner at the hotel. I trust he’ll accept the offer.”
Aria’s eyes widened, and the crowd around them buzzed with disbelief. Some of the young men muttered to each other, shocked that Victoria would extend such an invitation to someone like Ethan.
Greg, his face red with frustration, turned to Victoria. “You can’t be serious. He’s nobody important!”
Victoria cut him off with a raised hand. “I’m quite serious, Mr. Holden. I don’t take back invitations.”
The crowd fell silent, all eyes now on Ethan. They were eager to know if he would accept Victoria’s offer or not.
Just as Ethan was about to respond to her unexpected offer, his phone rang loudly in his hand. He brought it out glanced at the screen briefly, furrowing his brows slightly. Several of the nearby guests craned their necks, catching a glimpse of the name, and within seconds, the ridiculing began.“Seriously? Is this guy serious?” Greg scoffed haughtily.“Is that supposed to be a joke? Edward Crestwood? In your wildest dreams!” Another person in the crowd sniggered. The crowd erupted instantly with mocking laughter. They clearly believed that Ethan, being the boastful fraud that he was, had resorted to cheap tricks like creating fake names on his phone to impress people. The idea that the head of the Crestwood family, one of the most powerful men in the city, would call someone as unremarkable as Ethan was too far-fetched for them to entertain.Aria and her friend, Natalie, crossed their arms and stared at Ethan with an amused expression on their faces. They were eagerly waiting for Eth
It was around 6:32 a.m. in the morning, and the sun had barely risen in the horizon when Aria Whitman woke in the bed of a rundown motel room. Her head felt as though it was split into two with a heavy blow, and a boatload of pain wracked her entire body.“What happened?” Aria muttered in a soft voice, totally confused at the situation she found herself in.It didn’t take her long for her to find out what happened. She had lost her virginity!Just as Aria was stuck in the reality of the situation, Ethan, awoken by her loud voice, sat up on the bed, his toned body a beautiful sight to behold."You were such a demon in bed last night." Aria’s sight landed on the long, hard bulge in his nether regions, and a red blush appeared on her cheeks.SLAP!“What the hell?!” Ethan, not expecting the slap at all, exclaimed in a bewildered voice.“You! Who are you? And how did we get here?!” Aria asked furiously, her beautiful hazel eyes boiling with anger.“Are you serious right now? I mean, you w
Aria narrowed her eyes at Ethan, irritation and anger bubbling under her cool exterior. “What do you mean by ‘any amount of money’ I need?” Aria asked, her lips curling into a sneer. The very thought of this ordinary-looking boy claiming he could provide for her was laughable. Judging from the plain clothes that were littered on the floor, he didn’t even seem like he could afford to take care of himself. She strongly disliked people like Ethan, who clearly told and spinned lies about their capabilities to get on her good side. After all, as a top beauty of the prestigious Tussauds University, meeting those kinds of people wasn’t exactly a new occurrence to her.“I mean it.” Ethan said firmly."You must be joking," Aria scoffed, letting out a harsh laugh while glaring at him coldly, regarding him with the same contempt she regarded other nobodies who had tried their luck with her.“I’m not kidding. I can take care of you.”She stared at him for a moment, unable to decide if she should
Edward stopped and turned to stare at Ethan with a look of surprise on his face. He did not expect Ethan to see through him so easily. Otherwise, how would he have known that he had another reason for seeking him out?"Are you not going to answer me?" Ethan asked calmly, interrupting Edward's thoughts.Edward jolted a bit before begging in a tone filled with desperation."Please, Master Ethan, you have to save my daughter.” Edward pleaded.“I have tried everything possible. Doctors, specialists, and herbal treatments, but nothing has worked so far.” His voice faltered as he spoke, his eyes filled with hopelessness."Please, Master Ethan, I’m not sure how much time she has any longer!” Ethan’s expression remained unreadable as he stood across Edward. He exhaled slowly, seemingly unperturbed by the gravity of the request.“I’ll meet her tomorrow.” Ethan said, agreeing to Edward’s request.“What?” Edward blinked, taken aback by Ethan’s swift agreement. After all, the rumours he had hear
Aria stormed inside the villa, her heels clacking angrily against the polished marble floor. She had enough of Ethan’s ridiculous lies and smug attitude. However, just as she turned to close the door, her eyes widened when she saw Ethan casually walking inside the villa just behind her.“Are you insane?! What do you think you are doing right now?!” Aria snapped, her voice laden with irritation and anger.“Are you going to keep up your stalker activities here?!” Aria asked angrily, glaring at Ethan fiercely.Ethan stopped walking and stared at Aria with annoyed expression on his face. He always prided himself on being calm, but with the constant barrage of accusations from Aria, even he could not help but lose his patience.“I’ve told you already, I’m not a stalker, and I’m here to meet someone.” Ethan replied angrily.“Oh? And who exactly are you here to meet, Ethan?” Aria instantly crossed her arms, glaring at him.“My fiancée, Aria Whitman.” Ethan replied firmly. The words hit Aria
"Aria will marry Gregory Holden," Margaret declared in a firm voice. The tension in the room became extremely suffocating, and Henry Whitman stood tall, his arms crossed as he stared down at his wife, Margaret, who had just made an outrageous declaration. Her statement that Aria would marry Gregory Holden had shocked everyone in the room, and Henry’s expression instantly turned to one of pure disgust.“Gregory Holden? That hypocrite’s son? You must be out of your mind.” Henry sneered, his voice filled with disdain.Margaret remained unflinching at her husband’s harsh words, her posture stiff and resolute.“Greg is a fine young man, and he works for the powerful Crestwood family. It is surely a connection that will be invaluable to us one day.”Henry shook his head, his patience wearing thin.“The Crestwood family may be powerful, but Greg himself is nothing. His father is a mere lackey who can’t even manage his own affairs, and you want our Aria to be engaged to such a person?”“He’s
Before Ethan could get another word in, Aria walked off and approached a sleek, black Porsche that had just pulled up. The car's door opened, and a beautiful girl stepped out. Her designer outfit clung tightly to her slim figure, and every inch of her oozed wealth and privilege. Her expression was unreadable behind her oversized sunglasses, but the moment she saw Ethan, her lips curled in disdain.“This is my best friend, Natalie.” Aria said, throwing a glance over her shoulder at Ethan, her eyes gleaming with something between mischief and malice.Ethan extended a polite hand, offering a brief nod. "Nice to meet you."Natalie didn’t even look at his outstretched hand. Her eyes flicked up and down, taking in his simple clothes with a disgusted sneer.“So, this is the guy?” she asked, her voice dripping with contempt. She didn’t wait for an answer, turning to Aria. “I got your call. I see what you meant now.”Aria smirked, clearly pleased with her friend’s reaction. Ethan could feel th
Ethan stepped outside the club vicinity and pulled out his phone after he was in a silent area. He dialled the customer service number embossed on the back of his black unlimited card, and on the very first ring, the phone call connected, and a friendly but professional voice answered immediately.“Welcome to Zenith. How can I assist you?” the voice asked professionally.“I need my membership registered for tonight’s event at a club called Oasis,” Ethan said, his tone firm but calm. The process took less than a minute. With a level of efficiency only the most elite memberships could offer, the operator confirmed his registration. Ethan pocketed the card, knowing full well that the only reason he could easily become an exclusive member at Oasis was because of the card.It had been mentioned by Edward Crestwood that only a handful of individuals worldwide had the privilege of becoming members with this card. It was a mark of wealth, power, and connections that most people could only dre
