The next day, Liam tries his hardest to not think about the divorce he is going through because he has more important matters to deal with.
The black SUV pulls up outside of the Wellington group. Liam, who is dressed in a crisp black suit, steps out.
He looks up at the imposing glass building with a new purpose, thinking that he and Nova’s divorce is for the best because she would have tried to control things in what the Wellington family worked so hard for. Just as how she had controlled and manipulated him over the years.
‘’I’ll go park the car, Carl and the lawyers are waiting for you inside,’’ the driver tells Liam before entering the car again and driving away.
Before Liam could get far, a silver car comes speeding by. Splashing him with water that have settled in a puddle from the rain the night before.
Liam stays where he is to see who would step out and is surprised to see that it is Kyle, along with Venus and their mother.
‘’Well, if it is the poor bastard who tried to marry my little sister for money.’’ Kyle looks him up and down, then scoffs. ‘’If you are here for a job, just know that I’ll make sure you don’t get one. No matter how well you think you have cleaned up, you are still nothing but a poor man.’’
‘’Actually, I want an apology from you. You splashed me when you were driving recklessly,’’ Liam says.
Venus laughs. ‘’An apology? Who do you think you are? We should have hit you with the car, but because the Wellington Group would be the ones to suffer from the tragic accident, we got in with a cockroach like you. Then again, they might just throw your body in the trash where you belong.’’
‘’Children, let's not waste time with this trash. We are here on important business, remember time is money and right now the only people we should have time for are those Wellingtons, so we can merge with them or at least become their partners.’’
‘’Mother is right, come, brother. We don’t have to worry about this trash when we are done here because he won’t even get a job as a cleaner.’’
The two females walk ahead, while Kyle sneers at Liam.
‘’I still don’t know what my sister sees in you, just another low life who works and studies at my hospital, which I’m planning to close soon.’’ Kyle laughs. ‘’Pathetic.’’ he then spits on the ground before walking inside.
Liam says nothing, all he does is fix his jacket, then walks in behind Kyle, who is acting as if he owns the place and is treating those who he deems below him with disrespect.
‘’Excuse me, sir, what business do you have here?’’ A woman at the front desk calls out to Liam as he makes his way over to the elevator.
Kyle turns to her with a smile. ‘’You best throw him out before it is too late. Wouldn’t want trash like him to tarnish the good name of the Wellingtons.’’
The woman rises from her chair, nodding at Kyle’s words. ‘’Sir, I’m afraid you have to leave or I will have to call security.’’
‘’Why are you telling me to leave? Give me one good reason why you would even call security on me. Am I a threat to you?’’ Liam asks.
‘’Don’t waste your time on him, sweetheart. Save yourself the problem and have him thrown out. People like him shouldn’t even be in the building.’’ Kyle calls out before entering the elevator that his mother was holding for him.
Just as the woman reaches for the phone, Carl comes over.
‘’Master Tate, we have been waiting for you. Your team is also eager to meet you,’’ Carl states, then he begins to pull him away.
‘’Carl!’’ the woman calls after them.
‘’Tracy, I have no time to gossip with you today. I have important matters to attend to.’’ Carl calls over his shoulder.
Liam remains silent as he rides the elevator with Carl.
‘’First, you have to sign the papers for the company and everything else to be yours. After that, you will meet will existing partners and potential ones.’’
Liam nods at Carl’s words.
When they get to the very last floor, the doors open to where at least a dozen people are waiting for Liam.
A woman is the first to step forward, introducing herself to him.
‘’Mr Tate, welcome. My name is Annie Jacobs, your personal assistant.’’ She holds out her hand with a smile.
‘’Nice to meet you.’’ Liam returns her smile and shakes her hand.
‘’Ok, so to get down to business. First, you have to sign these papers in the presence of our lawyers and these witnesses. After that, your family’s company is officially yours. Let's go to my office to get this all sorted.’’
Liam nods and follows behind her. As he walks along, he looks at all the pictures of men and women that run along both sides of the wall, then he pauses after seeing a picture of him and his brother.
‘’Your mother insisted they go there, knowing that you would be the ones to take over the company.’’ Carl comes to stand beside him.
Liam nods.
Then walks the rest of the way to the office, where Annie is holding the door open.
Liam signs paper after paper until his hand hurt, but at least it is finally done and at last, he can say he now has a business even if he hadn’t gained it in the way he wanted to.
Someone pops a champagne bottle, as someone else cheers.
‘’Here to the new owner who just saved our asses from living on the streets.’’ A man raises his glass, and the others follow and make tosses of their own.
‘’So Mr Tate, now that you are the owner of this company. What is your first call to order?’’
‘’I want the girl in the main lobby fired. I don’t want someone like her who treats people like they are trash in this company,’’ Liam says.
Murmurs go up around the room, but no one disagrees with Liam.
Just then, the same woman they speak of comes into the room they are to announce.
‘’Good day, sorry to interrupt, but we have three members of the Grayson family waiting for their appointment with you, Annie.’’
Annie turns to her with a smile, because in truth she wanted to get rid of the girl for years because of her rude behavior and vulgar attire, but because she has no real power in the company, she couldn’t. Well, until now.
‘’Tracy, you are fired!” Annie tells her without hesitation.
Tracy’s eyes widen. “Why? What did I do?’’
Liam steps forward and her face falls.
‘’Sir, if I had offended you in any way, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize you were a valid client to our company.’’ Tracy lowers her head.
‘’A client? You are looking at the new owner. Mr Liam Tate, the son of Marie Wellington.’’
Tracy looks stunned by this and all she can do is just turn away.
“Before you go. Let this be a lesson to you and everyone else in here. Be it that you work for me or in any other organization, never judge a book by its cover. Don’t look down on people just because of what you heard from others, because you never know who they might be,’’ Liam tells them.
Tracy wipes her eyes and walks away.
‘’Now that’s done, let me go meet with the Graysons.'' Annie smiles at Liam."Annie, I think it would be best to let Liam attend this meeting as well. And it will be a wonderful way for him to understand how things are done.’’ Carl stops her.''Oh, you are right. Silly me.''Carl nods and winks at Liam as if he knows what he is planning. It is as if he knows of his revenge and is pushing me to do it.''Right this way.'' Annie holds the door for Liam.Liam nods, then follows her out and down the hall to a larger room that has a long table in the center and several chairs surrounding it.Kyle looks up at Liam then burst out with a laugh.‘’Is this some kind of a joke?’’ he asks.Annie frowns. ‘’You have me at a loss.’’‘’This poor man, what is he doing up here? This place is only for exclusive people.’’ Kyle points at Liam.‘’Mr Grayson, I’ll have you know that Mr Tate is the owner of this esteemed organization.''Kyle’s eyes hold confusion as he looks back and forth between Liam and An
With the type of person Kyle is, he doesn’t go out without a fight.''This shit place will burn. You hear that, poor man! And you are nothing, nothing but a poor man still!'' He flips a chair in the waiting area before hitting a few magazines on a glass table.Venus and Mrs Grayson walk behind him, acting oblivious to his behavior.''How dare a poor man like him to shame us?'' Kyle yells. It takes three security to pull him down to the main lobby, where he yells at all those who are staring at him.‘’Don’t you touch me! This place will burn! The Wellington Group will fail and I will be here to laugh at that poor man who was married to my sister.’’Mrs Grayson and Venus hold their heads down in shame, both still nothing believing the outcome of their meeting.Mrs Grayson had high hopes of signing papers today, even having one of her nieces date someone on the board so that her family could buy out more from the Wellington or even threatening them with what secrets they learn. But she n
"I don't know what happened, but I liked how you handled the situation.'' Annie nods.''Thank you, and it will never happen again.''‘’Well, now that’s done with, let me show you the ropes. Because this company needs to be in tiptop shape.’’ Annie smiles.‘’Before we start, I have only one request,’’ Liam tells her.‘’Anything.’’‘’I wish to have my best friend flown out here. We have been through a lot together and with Kyle threatening to discord the hospital, I don’t want him back on the streets. He has it hard enough already.’’‘’Just give me a name and address, and I’ll get someone on it.’’‘’Ok, but don’t let him know about all this. I would rather for me to break it to him. Better yet, forget about that plan. I would rather to surprise him myself this next weekend.’’Annie ends the call and places the phone down with a nod.“Ok to get to it, your mother wanted to buy Central Bank, but then she got sick and well, you now. But the offer still stands because we are the highest bid
‘’Mr Tate, now that the Graysons are losing their deals, how about we start deals with their old clients by backing and financing them to grow our investments?’’ Annie suggests.‘’That doesn’t sound too bad. What do you have in mind?’’‘’With all these openings, there is easily a billion dollars in Santeria up for grabs. We just have to come up with the best offer. We have banks, so a safer and more secure way to save and transfer money could be a way.’’‘A billion?’ Liam thought to himself.‘’Your mother also was interested in construction, so becoming a partner of Lloyd's construction can grow our profits.’’‘’Sounds as if we can make a lot of money.’’‘’We can, just by partnering with the countless of companies and then buying them out when the time comes.’’Liam nods. ‘’But what does one do with this much money?’’‘’Create generational wealth. Could also do small donations to non-profit organizations.’’As much as Liam wants to do this, he doesn’t want to become addicted to money
‘’We need a solution to help us solve this predicament that good-for-nothing ex-husband of yours has put us in,’’ Mr Grayson roars.‘’Father, we should stop calling him a good-for-nothing since he now owns basically all of Santoria and has our life hanging from a thread. A man who is good-for-nothing wouldn’t be able to ruin us like this,’’ Venus says from where she stands.Mr Grayson grits his teeth to contain the anger that has been building more and more as the hours tick by. ‘’Venus, I suggest you shut your mouth because you and your so-called fiancee are of no help.’’Venus frowns at her father. ‘’Right, as if he and his family haven’t donated fifty million to our ‘charity’. Maybe if you, mom, and Kyle cut down on the habits we wouldn’t be scrambling around for money.’’She drains her glass before speaking again. ‘’It is a good thing he is the one taking care of this wedding.’’Mr Grayson’s nostrils flares. ‘’I have no time for this. We need to find a way to get back our deals a
Annie’s tablet dings with a message notification. She raises her brows, then smiles at Liam.‘’It seems as if all of Santoria wants to know who you are. You have just been invited to the Mayor’s annual ball on Sunday.’’Liam glances up at her. ‘’I don’t have clothes for that.’’Annie scoffs. “Mr Tate, you have the city at your disposal. Hell, better yet, the state is yours. You can go buy anything you want when you want.’’‘’Yes, but I can’t be too reckless with money from what you tell me.’’Annie only gives a smile, because she had lied to Liam. Simply because she doesn’t want him to feel bad for all the money he has. Which is close to ten billion dollars. She only wants the best for him so he can make the right decisions.‘’I’m sure you can splurge a little, maybe even buy a car.’’Liam thought about it, thinking that it couldn’t be so bad to spend on himself.‘’Ok, I guess I can buy a few things.’’ He nods, and now that he has money, he doesn’t have to worry about the price tag.‘
Liam looks at himself in the mirror, not knowing what to wear to the country club because he has never been to one before. So he settles on wearing a gray long-sleeve shirt, black pants that have rips on the front, and black sneakers.‘’Master Tate, I took it up on myself and went out to buy you these new golf clubs. Enjoy your time.’’ Carl nods at him before telling a maid where to put some freshly cut flowers. When Liam pulls up outside of the country club, a few people look his way and only some give him judgemental looks, while others don’t seem to care.‘’Liam, good to see you again.’’ Jack claps him on the back while in a half hug.‘’How are you doing?’’ Liam asks.“Ready to play golf and hopefully make a new friend who won’t be mad at me when I win.’’Liam laughs. ‘’I won’t be mad at you because I do not know how to even carry this thing I’m carrying.’’ He lifts the golf club bag.Jack says nothing but leads him over to where a woman at the podium smiles at them.‘’Good morning
‘’Liam, what are you doing here?’’ Shannon ask.‘’More importantly, how did you even get in here?’’ one of the females at the table scoffs.‘’Can I talk to you for a minute?’’ Liam asks.Shannon gives a fake smile. The other female makes a face as Shannon walks away with Liam.‘’It’s nice seeing you again.’’Shannon gives another fake smile. ‘’Same to you.’’‘’Hmm, so I was wondering if you would like to go out on a date with me sometime.’’‘’A date?’’ Shannon leans her head to the side.‘’Yes, it could be a great way for us to catch up as well.’’‘’Liam, I don’t think that is a good idea.’’‘’Oh, are you with someone?’’‘’No, but, I don’t think a date is a good idea for us.’’‘’What do you mean?’’Shannon’s face twist into something of disgust. ‘’I mean, I wouldn’t want to be seen with someone like you.’’‘’Someone like me?”‘’Yes, you are a poor man, Liam. I can’t date you, because a local side street cook shop isn’t my thing.’’‘’I-’’‘’No, ok, you need to leave me alone and get ri
