HIS DREAM, HER NIGHTMARE
Ashton tapped his feet repeatedly on the tiled floor as he sat impatiently in the CEO's office of Knowles and co. He had been sitting there for hours after receiving a message from his wife's secretary to come in and see her.
The cup of coffee sitting in his hand let out its final smoke that swirled into the air till it disappeared as he looked at the wristwatch on his hand to check the time for the twelfth time.
The door finally pushed open and a young lady with curly blonde hair that bounced behind her as she swayed her hips walked in. A fitted blue mini suit skirt clung onto her body and a suit shirt to match fitted her perfectly.
Ashton let out a sigh as the word "finally" left his mouth.
"Mr Pearce, please come over to the table." She said nonchalantly.
Ashton frowned, she didn't even apologize for keeping him waiting for so long, heck she didn't even act like she acknowledged his presence. "I've been waiting here for hours, what took you so long?"
"Me? Of course I had better things to do than to waste away my evening talking with the likes of you. Besides, shouldn't you be grateful that you were treated to a cup of expensive coffee and cooling air from the ac?" She raised a brow.
Ashton let out a scoff. She always talked to him like that, even though he was her boss' husband.
"Well? Get here already!" She said in a commanding tone. "You're in no position to complain about anything." Her expression was only one thing as she spoke to him, disgust.
Ashton rose to his feet and walked over to the table. He placed the coffee gently on the table and waited for her to speak.
She searched through the files and brought out one. "There it is!" Opening it, she placed it in front of Ashton and put a pen on top of it. "Sign here."
Picking up the pen, he looked into the paper. "What is this?"
"A divorce paper. Can't you read?" She growled.
Ashton didn't quite understand what she meant. "A divorce paper?" He asked, feeling confused as to why a divorce paper was laying in front of him. "I don't understand." His face scrunched up confusedly.
"What is there not to understand? Miss Knowles wishes to divorce you and free herself from the shackles of a useless marriage." The secretary rudely proclaimed. "She has had enough of the insults living with a man like you as her husband has brought her and she wishes to put an end to it."
Ashton stepped away from the table, more like stumbling backwards. The pen fell from his hands and he turned to look at the secretary. "Miss Knowles?" Why the heck was his wife referring to herself as Miss? "What are you talking about? She left home this morning and didn't tell me anything like that! Tell me this is a prank."
His wife's secretary let out a hoarse laughter. "A prank? If anything is a prank then it's you. Mr Pearce, you know in that shabby little heart of yours that you don't deserve a woman like Miss Knowles. She's beautiful, rich and powerful why you're just a nobody from the trash trying to cling unto her--"
"What are you saying?" He asked.
Everything his wife was today, it was because of him. Because of his sweat and sacrifices. For three long years he served her and allowed her to climb on top of his head to reach higher.
Which is why he found it hard to believe, she was divorcing him and not even in person!
"Where is Rebecca?" He asked in a firm tone.
"Miss Knowles is busy. Now if you would just sign here, she is kind enough to give you the house you live in currently, a car and alimony of ten million dollars. That's enough for you to live a decent life." The secretary noted.
"No!" Ashton barked. "I will not sign those papers until Rebecca comes in here and tell me what the f*ck is going on!"
"It's exactly what she says is going on that is going on, honey."
Ashton turned around to the voice of his wife.
Rebecca stood at the door with a smile on her face. Ashton almost didn't recognize his wife, unlike the morning when she left home, she was putting on a red fitted jumpsuit that hugged her body and displayed her curves so effortlessly.
Her black heel called for attention as she strolled to her chair and sat down.
"Rebecca, what exactly is going on here?" Ashton asked. He forced himself to ignore the change of outfit and the full make up on her face.
She tucked a strand of brown hair behind her ear. "No reason for you to act unreasonable now, Ash, just sign the papers and take the house plus a car and ten million dollars."
His eyes squinted. It was like he was staring at a whole different person. "What is the meaning of this? A divorce? Out of the blue?"
"It isn't out of the blue, Ashton, obviously you have seen the signs I have been giving you."
"Yes, I did see signs but I thought it was because you were stressed from work." Ashton fell silent as she broke into a mocking laughter.
"Stressed from work? No, I've been stressed from having to put up with you for three whole years!" She rose to her feet with an evil glare in her eyes. "You're not a husband at all, you're nothing but dead weight pulling me down. Heck you're not even a man! You're... Nothing."
He felt his whole world fall apart in an instant. The only reason he lived was to love his wife and he had done so for three good years. To him, every single moment shared with her was like a dream come true and not a nightmare as she claimed.
"Is this because of Myles?"
Rebecca felt shocked by his words. She had been doing everything she could to get close to Myles Jameson of the king's cooperation so he would help grow her company. But it was over with Ashton now so there was no reason for her to hide it. "And what if it is?"
"Is power and money really all there is to you?" His brow arched.
"Yes, that's exactly what you need in this life, not love like you think. The reason you are nothing and will always be is because you can't open your eyes to see the truth. Love truly blinds and it has blinded you so much that you can't see what it's not doing! It's not putting food on the table nor is it providing the clothes on our backs or the roof over our heads!" She barked.
"But with love, anything is possible. We can survive together Becca!"
She sat back down into her seat and relaxed. "I'm sorry but I can't survive on your love. Please, stop making it so hard and just accept this."
For a moment, he thought he actually saw a hint of emotion in her eyes. But only for a moment.
"Did you ever even love me?" She rolled her eyes at his question but it didn't stop him from talking. "I loved you every single step of the way. Every single day, the reason I wake is you, I've never loved anyone the way I love you--"
"If you truly love me then you'll sign those papers and stop making a fuss out of nothing and you'll never show your face to me again." Her words were cold enough to send chills down his spine.
"I don't want anything from you. I'll sign the papers but I want my mother's ring back." He forced the words from his mouth as he fought the urge to fall apart.
"Good riddance, did you ever even see that old crappy thing on my finger?" She opened her purse and fetched out the ring then threw it across the table. "There's your mother's trash."
He picked up the ring and pocketed it. Picking up the pen that fell from his hand earlier, he brought his weary hands to sign the papers.
"I wish you a good life Rebecca." He managed to hide his emotion as he spoke.
"I wish you'd leave my office already and bury yourself in the scrap where you belong already." Like sharp knives, her words stabbed his heart. "Oh and you can sell the house if you don't want to live in it, I already packed my things and moved to my new home."
Those were the last words he heard her say as he left her office.
Rebecca let out a sigh as the door closed behind Ashton. Feeling like she had lost something important to her and it was a bad decision to let him go but she shrugged off the thought almost immediately.
Ashton felt like his heart was being weighed down by a heavy anvil as he left the building of Knowles and co. He knew his marriage was over but he still found it hard to believe. Just like that? Had she never even loved him once? And all of those words she said to him, did she mean any of it?He always loved his wife, whatever assistant she needed, he was willing to do it for. His wife, being the one that worked, Ashton decided to be more helpful around the house. He'd make dinner before she got home from work and made sure she always had clean laundry.Never for once did he complain about living like that. In fact, he loved it! As long as his wife was by his side. He didn't even realize that someone had been calling out to him until the man tapped his shoulder. "Mr Pearce!" The man exclaimed one last time. "Huh?" Ashton woke up from his thoughts at the touch of the man. "Mr Gomez, what are you doing here?" He asked when he finally acknowledged the man. Mr Thom Gomez was the CEO o
Silence and a smooth ride down the road was enough to clear Ashton's head and put him to sleep. Plus, the tiredness from staying awake all night to tend to his wife's laundry and other chores. A sudden vibration in his pocket yanked him out of dreamland and he sourced it out. It had been his phone ringing. An empty look took over his face as he stared at the name on the screen. My forever half. He ought to change it or probably delete her number even. "Hello?" He spoke calmly into the phone. "I can't believe how low you would go just to get back at me." Rebecca said icily. "Why would you do that to me?" She questioned angrily. "I don't understand what you're talking about." She gritted her teeth as anger boiled her blood like a pot of soup on a hot stove, causing it to bubble. "Are you with Mr Gomez right now?" She managed the words as calmly as she could which was far from calm."I am." Her scoff sounded in his ear. "You really let me down, for a man who talked on about how he
Ashton took a step forward towards Elizabeth's bed and placed a hand on her forehead. Then he lifted his hand and placed it on her throat. "Hmm, it's hard for you to breathe isn't it?" She nodded her head."Can you swallow for me?" He asked with an arched brow. She tried to swallow her own saliva but choked. Her eyes fell shut for a second as the pain stung her."Inflammatory." He muttered to himself with a concerned look in his eyes. He turned to look at her father who stood worriedly a few feet away from him. "Her throat has been inflamed so she has a severe sore throat. All these side effects are ones you must have noted yourself while you take the tea." His eyes trailed back to Elizabeth."Nonsense!" Mia barked. She shoved Ashton with all her might, sending him stumbling backwards. "This man is a con! If she's sick because of the tea then why am I as healthy as I am when I drink it too , even in larger quantities than she does?!" She growled at him. "You have a stronger immune
"And how long do you plan on staring instead of treating her?" Mia spat out arrogantly. She had noticed how Ashton had been taking peaks at Elizabeth's naked body and if it weren't for the fact that she was willing to remain calm until her friend was healed, she would have poked his eyes right out of their sockets. Ashton let out a soft laughter. "Ms. Cooper is remarkably beautiful, I apologize for staring but there was no way one could hold himself from taking as much as a glance at a beautiful flower." His words caught her by surprise. Why would he apologize for what he did when most men would out rightly deny ever doing it in the first place. A strange man he was, or so she found him. Even though he had proved to be a better fighter then she, she would never still respect him or show any sign of remorse for giving him a nosebleed unless he was truly able to cure Elizabeth. "Do you think... Acupuncture can heal me?" Elizabeth asked him. "I know it can. I'll have to mix up a co
A Lamborghini Urus drove to the front of the Cooper's apartment as Ashton left the front door. The car stopped in front of them and that was when he noticed that Mia had left them for a moment. She came out of the car and opened the door. Ashton turned around to look at Elizabeth who was standing next to him. She too had come to a stop as her eyes met with the confused look on his face. Her lips curved into a gentle smile. "I would like to show my gratitude in full if you would allow me." "And what exactly do you have in mind?" Ashton raised a curious brow. "Allow Mia to drop you at your home. Where do you stay?" Ashton felt a little ashamed to admit it but he didn't have any home in the whole of Beaumont city. With his divorce from his wife, he had nowhere to return to at the end of the day. "I don't... I don't have a place." "Oh..." She muttered. She gave him a gentle smile. "So where were you going?" "I was going to find a hotel nearby to stay for a while." "Then you're ju
A disgusted look played on Elizabeth's face as she heard the words from Theron's mouth. The way his eyes looked her up and down gave her an eerie feeling as he licked his lower lips.A smile curved on Theron's face as he looked down at her. Judging from the mini skirt and shirt she had on, the only job he found befitting to her was room attendant. He needed no one to tell him how difficult it must be to get a job at sky castle hotel so he figured she must have laid down her body to get the job.He took out his wallet and forced a few hundred dollars into her hands. "Your time's not now baby girl, just wait and let me finish up with that bloody bastard." Elizabeth frowned. What the hell did he take her for? She threw his money back at him as rage filled her up. "What exactly do you think you are doing? Mr Pearce is a good friend of mine and I advise you to withdraw before I ask you to be thrown out." Her tone was as cold and deadly as sharp icicles. Ashton was completely silent stil
The drive from Ashton's penthouse apartment down to the villa where old grandpa Knowles lived was a shorter distance than he had predicted it to be. Ashton got down from the taxi and paid the driver with both cash and a kind smile. As he strode down to the entrance, he was surprised to see Rebecca's mother, Diana, pacing about at the entrance. Her eyes sparked as she saw him, and she hurried to him with her high heels, calling attention as she walked towards him. The knee-length black dress she had on moved upward, revealing her thighs as she walked. The look on her face wasn't that of someone who was pleased. Ashton stood with a plain expression on his face. His clothes were as simple as they had always been; he tucked his hand into the pocket of his jacket and held his head high. "Listen to me," Diana started with a deadly scowl. "I don't know why my father wants to see you, but you better compose yourself in there. Don't go talking like a retarded fool about things you shouldn
Benjamin didn't know what to feel or how to feel. How did this ever become a reality? A divorce? Why and how?"Grandpa." Ashton's words snapped him out of his thoughts, and he looked into his eyes. "I'll come visit you when I can, but for now, I have to leave." He said it with a meek smile. Ashton had gotten on one knee to speak to him but now rose to his feet. He didn't spare Rebecca as much as a glance as he strode towards the door. Mixed emotions of anger and hurt filled his body as he walked. "Where the hell do you think you are going to be good for nothing, freak?! Who gave you permission to walk away from the midst of a prestigious family and ourselves? Come back here, let me teach you some manners." Theron growled angrily as he started towards Ashton. All eyes were on Ashton as he walked out, and they didn't seem to notice when the old man sprung to his feet. He pulled Theron by his collar and gave him a resounding slap that brought gasps from his daughter and his granddaug
