Elijah’s heart clenched as he carefully lifted Sophia into his arms, feeling the frailty in her slight frame.

Her eyes fluttered open for a moment, clouded with pain and confusion, but she seemed to relax as her gaze met his.

“Stay with me, Sophia,” he murmured, his voice a soft blend of reassurance and urgency.

“I… I slipped,” she managed, her voice barely a whisper. Her face tightened as she tried to move, but he stilled her with a gentle hand.
