27. A Carefully Laid Trap

Elijah walked beside Olivia, scanning the quiet, desolate street as they moved forward. The night was still, the only sound being the occasional rustle of leaves and their footsteps. Olivia kept glancing around nervously, clearly uneasy.

"It's strange, isn't it?" she muttered, looking up and down the road. "Not a single cab in sight. And my car..."

"It's okay," Elijah tried to be polite with his tone. "Don't worry. We'll find one soon."

Just then, Elijah's phone buzzed in his pocket. He glanced at the screen—Sophia’s name flashed on it. He quickly cut the call, shoving the phone back in his pocket.

Olivia raised an eyebrow. "Maybe it's important. You should answer."

Elijah waved it off with a casual shrug. "It can wait. Right now, I’m making sure you’re safe."

As if on cue, a cab finally appeared, slowing down beside them. Olivia sighed in relief as the cab came to a stop. She turned to Elijah, her eyes filled with gratitude.
