CHAPTER 30Faraway from Coral city, on the rocky ice plains of Iceland where the temperature had dropped significantly below zero degrees. A tall man was shirtless, wearing only right denim pants and a leather boot.He had broad shoulders, well toned abs and a firm chest that had a deep blade scar across it. The ridges and contours of his back were covered with a large tattoo of an eagle, spreading its wing and about to take off.It was why they called him The Eagle. The Eagle hummed a song to himself as he sharpened axes. Exactly twelve in number, because about 10 metres from him, he had twelve men, each tied to a stake. The men were all dressed in black robes, their mouths were gagged and they had hoods covering their faces. They were visibly shaken. Every sound produced from sharp metal grazing hard rock made them whimper, fear seeping out of their pores as they pondered who was going to be the first to die.“Who’s first?” The Eagle asked, skillfully swinging the axe in his hand in
CHAPTER 31“How long will you be gone for Chief?” Cole asked as he escorted Jack into the private jet. Mildred had returned after learning about the atttack on Jack’s Villa and his parents inisited he returned home for a while. It has been long since they saw him and even Jack knew the reunion was long over due.Everything seemed well for now at least in Coral city. He heavily compensated the family of the driver and maid who were killed by Tiger and he had moved into his new mansion.“One or two weeks. Keep an eye on everything for me. I’ll be in touch always,” Jack replied.“Are you sure it’s okay to go without security? I don’t know what I’m supposed to keep an eye on here. I’m your bodyguard, my job is to keep an eye on you,” Cole replied.“I’m going home Cole, there’s no need. Take this time to brush up on those administrative skills. I may need you to do more important stuff plus when I get back, I’m hiring a security team. It’s imperative at this point.”Cole wanted to protest
Chapter 32“You look so skinny. Have you not been eating?” Alice circled her hand around Jack's waist as they headed inside.Jack chuckled. He looked bulkier than when he first left home. He wondered what his mother was going on about. Between the two of them, she looked like the one who wasn’t eating but Jack understood that her emaciation wasn’t borne out of malnutrition.“Well I’m back home now mother. You can fatten me up with your delicious cooking like a cow. Just don’t lead me to the slaughter,” He smiled broadly at her and everyone laughed.“I had the chefs - no I personally made your favourite delicacies but I had help from the chefs. Come, let’s eat. You must be very hungry from your trip,” Alice replied and the family headed to the dining table. The family shared stories as they enjoyed dinner together as a family for the first time in a long time. Jack recounted the horrors he had to go through after leaving home. From living in his car, to having to sell it to pay for medi
CHAPTER 33Two weeks went by in a flash and Jack was ready to return back to Coral City. Since Coral city was a fast growing city with a fast rising economy compared to what it was years ago, Jack decided to move the headquarters from Milton to Coral City.He appointed Mildred as CEO in his stead while he would take on the role of chairman, pulling the strings from behind the scene. He believed that since Mildred was a familiar face to their investors, shareholders and company executives, the handover of leadership from their father to her would receive a warmer reception than if it was him.He also just didn’t want to have the title, he wanted to earn it by doubling and eventually tripling the amount of money the company currently had under its control and he had a plan in mind to do that. When Jack and Mildred landed at the airport in Coral city, Cole was already waiting to pick them up with Jack’s new security team.Three specially customised bulletproof G-wagons were in the airport
CHAPTER 34Contrabands? He was accused of smuggling contraband medicine within the city? Jack couldn’t believe it. He almost wanted to laugh. Couldn’t they come up with something more clever to frame him with? Sure, their scheme was clever but they would need ample evidence to pin that on him in court. That’s even if it got to court anyway. These were Jack’s exact thoughts of the whole situation.Barry Kent didn’t want any blowback from the matter because he feared Jack’s friend, so he was careful not to leave any hint of their involvement. He specifically asked the two cops who planned the whole thing not to get involved since Jack could recognize them and pin it back to the Kents.Jack’s workers had gone to pick up garbage as usual, but this time it was from a new customer. After picking it up, on their way to the City's garbage and recycling dump, they were accosted by the police and arrested. The truck was searched and contrabands were found. Their new truck park was also searched
CHAPTER 35Marcus and Gerald were driving back home when their phone rang. It was a call from Barry Kent.“Where the hell are you? Come home now! We’re in dipshit.”Barry was getting reports after reports and he couldn’t take it.“Sir, The food and drug quality agency said our imports are substandard. They are suing us for three billion dollars.”“Sir, the banks just called. They are demanding that we pay all our loans right now!”“Sir, All our business partners just dumped us!”“Sir, Our shareholders are selling off their shares, Our share price is falling. We’ve lost millions of dollars!”“Sir, Kent Imports and Exports is bankrupt. All our containers have been seized and the Port Authority has banned us permanently!”“Oh my goodness! What do we do? Why is this happening?” Charlotte wailed. “We are doomed.”Just then, Marcus and Gerald rushed in. Barry was slumped on a sofa. His chest rising and falling unevenly and haphazardly. It was like he was going to have a heart attack at any
CHAPTER 36One of the cops reached for his gun while the other threw a weak fist but Cole was faster. He let his hands fly and both fists connected simultaneously with his opponents throat, making them gag and recoil. Before they could recover, Cole was in front of them again. His left elbow struck one across the face and at the same time, his right knee connected with the other one’s crotch.Cole skillfully and swiftly unholstered their guns as they stumbled back and when they regained balance, both guns were already pointed at them, painfully close to their head, with Cole’s finger, kissing the trigger, eager to deliver the lead to their fucking brains.“Now tell me boys, which one of you fuckers put the goddamn contrabands in the truck?” Cole asked with a smirk on his face.“Fuck you. We don’t know what you’re talking about.”“You dare assault and hold officers of the law at gunpoint. You better kill us asshole or else you’re dead.”BANG! BANG!Cole fired shots into their toes simul
CHAPTER 37It was like a celebrity was the one that they were expecting at the press conference, with the chaos that ensued as soon as those words left the Inspector’s mouth. The attention turned towards the door as it flung open. Camera lights flashed left and right in that direction. Various reporters ran with their mic towards the door.Jack stepped in, guarded by three hefty police officers from the mob of reporters, who all wanted to get a word from him on how he uncovered the scheme.Jack wasn’t dressed in style, or in flair, or anything of the sort. He looked very much like your average Joe in his khaki pants and black shirt, but they were no cheap brands.Yet, everyone in the hall looked at him with awe and admiration. Some people who even recognized him as the son in law of the Kent family were leaving their comments as Jack made his way towards the podium.“Wait a minute. Wasn’t he the son in law of the Kent family?”“I know this guy. They always used to treat him like shit b
