Her father being cryptic was nothing out of the ordinary, but tonight was different. Karen couldn't understand a thing he was saying. If it was regret, she could smell it all over him. He had lost everything he worked hard for. The company was gone and was now under the control of Carlos Borges. It was only a matter of time before it was official.

Karen blamed herself for this. She had been selfish from the beginning. Her hatred for Rylan had cost the family a lot. Now her father had lost the company. The company he had been trying hard to keep. She had told him to hand over the company to Rylan in the hope that she was going to get it back at the end. But that had been in vain.

“What do you mean?” She asked.

Frederick chuckled as he glanced at his watch. He knew they were coming for him. The only thing on his mind was how long it was going to take. He appeared calm even though he knew he wasn’t going to get out of her scott-free. It had taken him a lot of time to understand.

Stanley Rogers woke up with a splitting headache. He groaned and held his cheek as he tried to track what happened, but anytime he tried to think, his brain ached. He looked around and realized that he was somewhere strange. He was in a room lying on the floor, and to his left was a bunch of huge monitor screens. It was then that it hit him. He was at Tristan’s house. Then everything came flooding back. He had caught Jain and was about to kill her when Rylan arrived. He had them where he wanted them, but everything changed in a flash. Rylan had bundled him to the ground and had knocked him out. The last thing he could remember was his fist smashing against his cheekbone. He winced in pain as he recalled that. Stanley rose from the floor and found Rylan and Jain pinned to a wall. He looked at the figure standing before them and smiled. It was Lana Pierce. She had arrived just in the Nick of time. He feared that he had messed up the plan, but lama had saved his ass. Carlos wouldn’t ha

Detective Jain Reynolds looked at the body of Stanley Rogers lying motionless on the floor with half of his brains spread before his corpse. He was finally gone. The man who had killed her daughter and had made her life miserable. She hadn’t been able to pull the trigger. She had been given the opportunity by Rylan, but she had failed. Stanley would have killed her if Rylan hadn’t acted faster. She owed him her life twice in one night. Her eyes went to him who was still holding the gun and looking down at the body of her partner. It seemed he was trying to digest the fact that he had killed him. But that didn’t mean anything. They were both safe, and that was soon what mattered. It turns out that working with Rylan had been the best plan she could come up with. Rylan finally looked up at Jain. He still was in disbelief. Jain had a clear shot at Stanley but she couldn’t bring herself to kill him. After working for so many years searching for her daughter’s killer she couldn’t bring h

Dayton Veeschoris drummed his hands on the dashboard impatiently as they headed toward Tristan’s house. He was scared that they were too late and that something bad had happened to Rylan. Maybe he was dead already and Stanley was on the run. Dayton dreaded that. He hated that such a thought came into his mind. Lieutenant Wesley who was driving as fast as he could was growing impatient with Dayton drumming the dashboard. It was disrupting his focus. If what he heard was true, then Stanley was a criminal. Lieutenant Wesley still had his doubts. To be honest, he hadn’t believed the words he had said to him until they got to Frederick’s house. When Frederick didn’t try to resist, it was only then he came out shocked. Frederick was in one of the cars following them as they headed towards Beverly Hills. It was 2 am, and Lieutenant Wesley hadn’t predicted his day to turn out this way. He had hoped that it would be another lazy day, and it had just been that until he had heard the news of M

Lieutenant Wesley watched Jain being helped out of the porch. She wasn’t wearing her brown leather jacket which made it hard to tell that it was her. She was relieved that she was still alive. Dayton had been telling the truth the whole time. She looked a mess as she headed towards him. There was a cloth wrapped below her bleeding arm. This came as a shock to the Lieutenant. She was hurt. “Detective Reynolds,” he said. “You’re alright.”As Jain arrived at the cars, Lieutenant Wesley smiled at her. Jain could only give him a weak smile in return. Lieutenant Wesley wasn’t pleased to see her bleeding arm. “We need to get that checked.”A male paramedic stepped out of the crowd of care and walked towards Jain. “Detective. Please come with me.”Dayton held her brow jacket as Jain walked away with the paramedics. He was left alone with Lieutenant Wesley who didn’t seem pleased by that. Dayton smiled at the Lieutenant. Williams had saved all their asses tonight. He was the real hero, and

“You’re okay,” Jain said as Rylan came towards her. He flashed her a warm smile and she could feel her stomach churn in response. “Were you worried about me?” He asked. Jain rolled her eyes. “Don’t push your luck.” Rylan chuckled at that. “Are you guys going to put me to sleep or you’re going to kiss already?” Lana, who was standing by Rylan asked. They had both forgotten that she was with them. Rylan was gripping her by the elbow waiting to hand her over to the cops. As the cops came, he handed her over to them. Lana walked away as they handcuffed her and she headed towards one of the cars. Jain and Rylan were now alone. Rylan looked like a mess. His face was covered with sweat and his dark brown hair was pasted to his forehead because of the sweat. His amber eyes were dull and he looked exhausted. His dress wasn’t any different. She could remember that he had torn off his sleeve to stop the bleeding on her gun wound. The wound had now been successfully stitched

Carlos Borges was sitting on the armchair by the fireplace. He tapped his foot impatiently on the floor with a glass of scotch in his hand as he waited for the news that didn’t seem to be coming. It was almost dawn, and he hadn’t gotten a word from either Lana or Stanley. They were supposed to be done with Rylan and Jain now, but nothing came. Just over five hours ago, he had received a call from Lana telling him of the predicament of their current situation. Jain had found out about Stanley and Rylan was on his way to end him. She had gone there too to make sure the plan didn’t fall apart. Carlos had been furious that the plan had been put in limbo. It had all turned sour in the pace of twenty-four hours. He had hoped they would save it and everything would still go on as planned, but that didn’t seem likely to happen. “Any word?” Seth asked behind him. Carlos shook his head. Seth had been at his place for the past forty-eight hours and he wondered when he was going to head back

A black Lamborghini swerved into the driveway of Carlos Borges’ estate and came to a halt. The front door swung open and Rylan Daystar stepped out of the car. He looked tattered dressed in his once white undershirt with one sleeve turned out. His back hair was ruffled and his cheeks were soiled with dirt. He looked like he had come out of a train wreck. That was not far from a fact considering all that had happened in the last ten hours. The other figure who stepped out of the car was Detective Jain Reynolds. She looked to be in much better shape than Rylan. Although she was minorly injured, she had forced herself to be here. She had been shot by Lana and had gotten the wound stitched up, but it seemed the pills they had given her to silence the pain were dying off. She could feel every bit of pain in her arm as she stood beside Rylan. It was twilight now and the sun would soon sneak through the horizon. Rylan wanted to get this file as soon as possible. There were a lot of things h

Rylan Daystar gripped his shoulder as he winced in pain. He was lucky that it was only a scratch, but it hurt so much. Rylan’s mind was racing. He seemed to be forgetting something. And then, it hit him. Jain! His eyes went across the room and he found her lying by one of the couches, writhing in pain. It seemed she had landed on her stitched arm. Rylan blamed himself for bringing her here. She should have stayed in the car, but she was just too stubborn to listen to him. “Come out, come out wherever you are,” Carlos sang as he sauntered through the room. Jain managed to get on her feet quietly and she turned to Rylan who was now sitting behind the couch, panting. Their eyes met and he smiled weakly at her. Then, he told her to hush with his finger and she nodded. Carlos’s footsteps were getting louder. It seemed he was heading towards him. Rylan could feel his heart thumping. His hand was firmly gripped by his gun. All he had to do was take a peek to know where Carlos was. And s

VENICE, ITALY6 MONTHS LATER. “Stay away from me!” The man yelled as he ran through the dim streets for shelter. Behind him, a man dressed in a black suit with a black mask was running after him. In his hand was an FN 5’7. The man in black pursued him endlessly. When the Italian man stopped for shelter, he pulled out his gun from the pockets of his leather jacket and aimed at the man in black. “Rylan. Watch out,” Williams called in his ear. “Holy shit!” Rylan yelled on his breath as the man pointed the gun in his direction. Two shots were fired and Rylan managed to dodge the bullets before they could hit him. “Are you sure this is our guy?” Rylan asked. “Affirmative. Dominic De Rossi,” Williams replied through the comms. “I just hope you’re right.”“When have I ever been wrong?”Rylan rolled his eyes and fired back at Dominic. The shot whizzed past Dominic’s head and he scrambled to his feet immediately. Rylan saw this and decided to go after him. They were on the main stre

“They let you in?” Jain asked. “Of course they would.”Jain sighed and drank her cappuccino. They were both seated at a table in the cafe. It was at their favorite spot—the table by the window. It had been two days since Rylan had spoken to Frederick. He could still remember the shock on his face when he told him he had forgiven him. It wasn’t something that Frederick had expected. Frederick was aware that he despised him, but there was no need to keep that grudge anymore. The battle had been won. The best thing he could do now was move on and that was ok his agenda. Jain shook her head in disbelief. She was baffled that they would let Rylan into the prison to speak to Frederick McCullough. Well, he was Rylan Daystar. “So what did you tell him?”Rylan lifted his cup of cappuccino and took a sip from it. His eyes went to the parking lot outside the window. The morning sun washed all the cars there with its glorious light including his black Audi. “I told him that I forgave him.”Ja

The door opened and a figure dressed in suit stepped into the facility. The sounds of footsteps echoed through the hallway as the figure made its way toward the door. When it arrived, a guard was waiting by the door who was heavily armed. He opened the door and stepped forward. He had a grim look on his face. “Welcome, Mr. Daystar.”Rylan smiled at him and shoved his hands into his pockets. “Where is he?” He asked. “Waiting for you, sir.”Rylan nodded and stepped forward. He was in a prison facility, one of the most dreaded in the country. Rylan was here to see someone special to him. He would call it a mockery, but there was something he would love to say. This was the last thing on his bucket list before he could tag this mission as a success. They arrived at a room and the guard opened the door for Rylan. Inside the dimly lit room, a figure was sitting at a table dressed in orange. Rylan clenched his jaws and stepped into the room. He turned back to the guard who was still sta

“I thought we were going to head back home?” Jain asked as they headed into their Airbnb. “Well, Los Angeles is a two-hour flight back, and my pilots are off duty for the night,” Rylan said, closing the door behind them. Jain sighed and rubbed her neck nervously. She couldn’t remember the last time she had been in a room alone with a man. That had been with Jacob; five years ago. Rylan took off his suit jacket and hung it on the cloth rag before folding his undershirt. “If this makes you uncomfortable I could get a different room for myself.”Jain turned to him. “You could do that?” She asked. “I mean, there’s no need for that.”Rylan arched an eyebrow at her as he folded his sleeve once more. “Okay. If you say so.”Jain nodded and proceeded to the fireplace. She was gazing at the crackling fire as she held her shoulders. It brought her soothing warmth. There was a center table in the small living room and on it was a bucket of ice with a bottle of champagne sitting in it. “Wou

She and Stanley had been trying to solve the shootout that seemed to have happened to his club. When she had first laid eyes on him, she knew he was trouble. From the way he talked and moved, she assumed that he was as narcissistic and arrogant as the rest of all the billionaires in Los Angeles. The party was lavish. There were lots of special dignitaries who filled the scene. The paparazzi wouldn’t stop flashing their cameras at them. This was the biggest party in the city. It was an awards party which would explain why there were so many famous people. A black Lamborghini arrived at the scene and halted on the red carpet. The door lifted and a figure stepped out of the car. It was Rylan Daystar who was dressed in a charcoal black suit with floral patterns and a shawl which was tied at his waist. He looked like a Frenchman. He moved to the other side of the car and opened the door. A woman stepped out of the car all dressed in a white gown. It was Jain, and she had a new look. Her platinum blonde hair which was always long was cut short now making her look dangerously beautiful. Rylan smiled as he watched her close the door of the Lamborghini. A valet came forward and Rylan threw the key to him. “Make sure you take good care of her.”“Yes sir,” the valet said, getting in

Arlene raised an eyebrow at this. “Come in,” Rylan appeared to be speaking to the door until a figure stepped into the room.As Arlene saw the figure, she immediately flashed back. There was no way this was happening. He was real, and he was still alive. He was Paul Richmond. Arlene tried to speak but no words could converge. Paul looked at her and smiled. “Hey, Arlene,” he greeted. Arlene tried to look away but she couldn’t. His voice brought back so many memories. Rylan turned to surprise. “Of course not.”“Well, you’ve been talking about your thigh for the last two minutes.”“I’m just anxious.”Jain turned to him. “About what?”Rylan kept silent for a few minutes to think about it. “About this, I guess?”Jain scoffed at his words. “You’ve been in front of a crowd a million times. This is the same thing.”“Well not exactly. I’ve never been in front of a crowd filled with police officers.”Jain laughed at his words. “Rylan Daystar is being intimidated by a crowd of police officers. Who would have thought?”Rylan rolled his eyes and placed his hands before him. They were both standing in a room alone. In a few minutes, they would be taken outside to be handed the key to the city. Rylan wasn’t exactly sure why he was there. When Jain had first told him about this at the cafe? He quickly declined the offer. The city saw him as a hero. But he wasn’t. He had so many flaws that would prevent
