CHAPTER 6

Rylan Daystar stepped out of the SUV and shut the door. He took off his shades and gazed at the mansion before him. The big doors spread open and Williams walked out of it making his way towards him. Rylan flashed a smile at him.

“Young Master,” Williams said. “I’m glad you have returned.”

Rylan nodded at him.

“Thank you, Williams,” he appreciated.

Williams headed to the trunk and lifted it, taking out his luggage. He walked back into the house leaving Rylan in the driveway. Rylan turned around and faced his surroundings. Being back in Los Angeles gave him a nostalgic feeling. As time flew without hesitation, it was already five years gone. Those years he had spent away were productive. It was time he got back what he had lost—his dignity.

Rylan sighed and stepped into the house. He nodded his head as he looked around the large living room. He had bought the house a few days before he left. It looked spotless as he walked through it. Williams had managed to keep it clean while he was away. This, he appreciated.

“I will place this in your closet, Master,” Williams said.

“Go ahead, Williams,” he said.

Williams nodded and began making his way towards the stairs. He halted all of a sudden and turned back to Rylan whose attention seemed engrossed by an object.

“Young Master,” he called.

Rylan was staring at his wedding ring which was now in a glass case. He was going to keep it as a relic. And also as a remembrance of his past life. It would be difficult for him to let go of something with such great power over him. He was lucky to have been called by Williams. He turned to him, placing the case in his jeans pocket.

“Yes, Willams?” He responded.

“Your mother instructed you to call her when you arrive,” Williams said.

Rylan sighed at that.

“Thank you, Williams,” he appreciated.

Williams nodded and headed up the stairs. Rylan placed his hand on the bulge in one of his pockets which was caused by the case. He let go and pulled out his phone from the other side dialing his mother’s line immediately. The phone rang thrice before it got answered.

“Hello?” Rylan greeted.

“Rylan honey!” His mother responded exuberantly.

Rylan chuckled and placed his hand in his pocket.

“Williams told me you are coming home today,” she said.

There was a rustling sound in the background which made Rylan uncomfortable. It seemed his mother was busy.

“Yes. I just arrived a few minutes ago,” he said.

“Did you find what you were seeking?” She asked.

Rylan gazed at the sofa at his side.

“Yes, mom. I did,” he replied.

The rustling sound returned. Arlene sighed on the other end of the line.

“Well, I’m on my way to the airport now. Too bad I can’t see you before I leave,” she said.

Rylan furrowed his eyebrows as he heard that.

“The airport?” He said. “Where are you headed?”

“London. It’s a business trip, Rylan. Sorry, I didn’t tell you earlier, but it’s important,” she said.

Rylan rubbed his forehead in disbelief.

“So how long will you be away?” He asked.

“Three months tops,” Arlene replied.

“THREE MONTHS?!” Rylan almost screamed.

There was more rustling in the background, and this time it took longer for Arlene to respond.

“I have to go now, Rylan. I’ll talk to you when I land. Bye,” she said.

The line ended and Rylan pulled the phone away from his ear in disbelief. Arlene was going to be away for a while. This meant he could carry out his plans without her knowing.

Williams came down the stairs empty-handed. Rylan turned to him.

“I’ve arranged your clothes properly in the closet room,” he said.

Rylan nodded.

“Did you speak to your mother?” He asked.

“Yes. She says she’ll be away for a while,” Rylan said looking at the phone which was still in his grip. “I guess it’s just me and you now.”

Williams walked up to Rylan and placed a hand on his shoulders.

“You know I’m always here for you, Young master,” Williams said.

Rylan nodded at him.

“Would you care for a bottle of scotch?” Williams asked.

Rylan nodded and Williams headed into the kitchen. Rylan sighed and slumped on the couch. For five years he had been away trying to gain knowledge and power. He had traveled across Europe learning and also strengthening his skills. He had learned so many martial arts that he couldn’t keep count of them. And while he was away, he also had an eye back at home. Williams. Williams helped him watch everything while he was away. He had acquired a few stakes in the top companies in Los Angeles together with the help of Williams and his new lawyer, Leah Marcher. Rylan had also been able to acquire a share in one of the companies owned by The McCulloughs. Everything was shaping up nicely for him. The only thing left for him to do was strike. Rylan had learned not to rush things over. He was going to take time and savor the destruction he was going to bring to them. Time was on his side.

Williams returned to the room with a tray in his hands. In the tray was an empty glass and a bottle of scotch. Williams placed the tray on the table and filled the glass before handing it to Rylan. Rylan got it and took a sip from it.

“Do you need anything else?” Williams asked.

Rylan recalled something.

“About that proposal to the governor. How is it going?” He asked.

“Mrs. Marcher handled it impeccably. It’s in his hands now and we are waiting on feedback,” Williams replied.

“Thank you, Williams,” he said.

Williams nodded.

Rylan took another sip before rising to his feet. Williams watched him.

“Willams. You know you and I have been in this for a long time now,” Rylan began. “And by now, you should know what you’re into.”

Williams was lost for a few seconds. Immediately he understood what Rylan meant, and he nodded.

“Yes, sir. I’m fully aware,” Williams replied.

Rylan clenched his jaws as he heard that.

“If you’re not feeling comfortable with this or you are having any doubts, I won’t stop you from leaving,” he said, now standing before Williams.

Williams placed his hands behind him and gave Rylan a straight face. He knew what Rylan was on before he left for Europe. He was already aware of his plans when he began buying shares across Los Angeles. At first, they had seemed random, but the. Williams did his research and found out that at least three of the companies had an alliance with McCullough Industries. He knew about his past with The McCulloughs. Rylan had told him everything that happened before he left. So he understood what Rylan was seeking. It was what every man would search for after going through such turbulent conditions—Revenge.

“I am with you, Master,” he said. “Till the very end.”

Rylan placed a hand on his shoulder and patted him.

“Thank you,” he said.

Then, something came into Williams’s mind.

“A letter came in yesterday for you, sir,” he said.

Rylan cranked his eyebrow as he heard that.

“A letter?” He asked.

“Yes. An invitation letter,” Williams said heading into the study room.

Rylan sipped his scotch as heard that. He wondered what Williams was talking about. Williams returned a few minutes later with a letter in his hand. Rylan got it from him confused.

“It’s an invitation from one of your partnering companies to a function,” Willams said.

Rylan opened the letter and went through it. His eyes gleamed as he came across Frederick’s name. It was a while since he heard that name. It meant that he was going to be present. Rylan handed back the letter to Williams.

“Excellent,” Rylan said.

“What’s on your mind, sir?” Williams asked.

Rylan gave him a smug smile.

“My big revelation.”
