Rylan Daystar stepped out of the SUV and shut the door. He took off his shades and gazed at the mansion before him. The big doors spread open and Williams walked out of it making his way towards him. Rylan flashed a smile at him.
“Young Master,” Williams said. “I’m glad you have returned.”Rylan nodded at him.“Thank you, Williams,” he appreciated.Williams headed to the trunk and lifted it, taking out his luggage. He walked back into the house leaving Rylan in the driveway. Rylan turned around and faced his surroundings. Being back in Los Angeles gave him a nostalgic feeling. As time flew without hesitation, it was already five years gone. Those years he had spent away were productive. It was time he got back what he had lost—his dignity.Rylan sighed and stepped into the house. He nodded his head as he looked around the large living room. He had bought the house a few days before he left. It looked spotless as he walked through it. Williams had managed to keep it clean while he was away. This, he appreciated.“I will place this in your closet, Master,” Williams said.“Go ahead, Williams,” he said.Williams nodded and began making his way towards the stairs. He halted all of a sudden and turned back to Rylan whose attention seemed engrossed by an object.“Young Master,” he called.Rylan was staring at his wedding ring which was now in a glass case. He was going to keep it as a relic. And also as a remembrance of his past life. It would be difficult for him to let go of something with such great power over him. He was lucky to have been called by Williams. He turned to him, placing the case in his jeans pocket.“Yes, Willams?” He responded.“Your mother instructed you to call her when you arrive,” Williams said.Rylan sighed at that.“Thank you, Williams,” he appreciated.Williams nodded and headed up the stairs. Rylan placed his hand on the bulge in one of his pockets which was caused by the case. He let go and pulled out his phone from the other side dialing his mother’s line immediately. The phone rang thrice before it got answered.“Hello?” Rylan greeted.“Rylan honey!” His mother responded exuberantly.Rylan chuckled and placed his hand in his pocket.“Williams told me you are coming home today,” she said. There was a rustling sound in the background which made Rylan uncomfortable. It seemed his mother was busy.“Yes. I just arrived a few minutes ago,” he said.“Did you find what you were seeking?” She asked.Rylan gazed at the sofa at his side.“Yes, mom. I did,” he replied. The rustling sound returned. Arlene sighed on the other end of the line.“Well, I’m on my way to the airport now. Too bad I can’t see you before I leave,” she said.Rylan furrowed his eyebrows as he heard that.“The airport?” He said. “Where are you headed?”“London. It’s a business trip, Rylan. Sorry, I didn’t tell you earlier, but it’s important,” she said.Rylan rubbed his forehead in disbelief.“So how long will you be away?” He asked.“Three months tops,” Arlene replied.“THREE MONTHS?!” Rylan almost screamed. There was more rustling in the background, and this time it took longer for Arlene to respond.“I have to go now, Rylan. I’ll talk to you when I land. Bye,” she said. The line ended and Rylan pulled the phone away from his ear in disbelief. Arlene was going to be away for a while. This meant he could carry out his plans without her knowing.Williams came down the stairs empty-handed. Rylan turned to him.“I’ve arranged your clothes properly in the closet room,” he said.Rylan nodded.“Did you speak to your mother?” He asked.“Yes. She says she’ll be away for a while,” Rylan said looking at the phone which was still in his grip. “I guess it’s just me and you now.”Williams walked up to Rylan and placed a hand on his shoulders.“You know I’m always here for you, Young master,” Williams said.Rylan nodded at him.“Would you care for a bottle of scotch?” Williams asked.Rylan nodded and Williams headed into the kitchen. Rylan sighed and slumped on the couch. For five years he had been away trying to gain knowledge and power. He had traveled across Europe learning and also strengthening his skills. He had learned so many martial arts that he couldn’t keep count of them. And while he was away, he also had an eye back at home. Williams. Williams helped him watch everything while he was away. He had acquired a few stakes in the top companies in Los Angeles together with the help of Williams and his new lawyer, Leah Marcher. Rylan had also been able to acquire a share in one of the companies owned by The McCulloughs. Everything was shaping up nicely for him. The only thing left for him to do was strike. Rylan had learned not to rush things over. He was going to take time and savor the destruction he was going to bring to them. Time was on his side.Williams returned to the room with a tray in his hands. In the tray was an empty glass and a bottle of scotch. Williams placed the tray on the table and filled the glass before handing it to Rylan. Rylan got it and took a sip from it.“Do you need anything else?” Williams asked.Rylan recalled something.“About that proposal to the governor. How is it going?” He asked.“Mrs. Marcher handled it impeccably. It’s in his hands now and we are waiting on feedback,” Williams replied.“Thank you, Williams,” he said.Williams nodded.Rylan took another sip before rising to his feet. Williams watched him.“Willams. You know you and I have been in this for a long time now,” Rylan began. “And by now, you should know what you’re into.”Williams was lost for a few seconds. Immediately he understood what Rylan meant, and he nodded.“Yes, sir. I’m fully aware,” Williams replied.Rylan clenched his jaws as he heard that.“If you’re not feeling comfortable with this or you are having any doubts, I won’t stop you from leaving,” he said, now standing before Williams.Williams placed his hands behind him and gave Rylan a straight face. He knew what Rylan was on before he left for Europe. He was already aware of his plans when he began buying shares across Los Angeles. At first, they had seemed random, but the. Williams did his research and found out that at least three of the companies had an alliance with McCullough Industries. He knew about his past with The McCulloughs. Rylan had told him everything that happened before he left. So he understood what Rylan was seeking. It was what every man would search for after going through such turbulent conditions—Revenge.“I am with you, Master,” he said. “Till the very end.”Rylan placed a hand on his shoulder and patted him.“Thank you,” he said. Then, something came into Williams’s mind.“A letter came in yesterday for you, sir,” he said.Rylan cranked his eyebrow as he heard that.“A letter?” He asked.“Yes. An invitation letter,” Williams said heading into the study room.Rylan sipped his scotch as heard that. He wondered what Williams was talking about. Williams returned a few minutes later with a letter in his hand. Rylan got it from him confused.“It’s an invitation from one of your partnering companies to a function,” Willams said.Rylan opened the letter and went through it. His eyes gleamed as he came across Frederick’s name. It was a while since he heard that name. It meant that he was going to be present. Rylan handed back the letter to Williams.“Excellent,” Rylan said.“What’s on your mind, sir?” Williams asked.Rylan gave him a smug smile.“My big revelation.”There was a huge crowd outside the event. It seemed to be packed with people and paparazzi. It was the biggest party in town that night and was being attended by big names. Amid the ruckus, a black Porsche approached the scene. The crowd gave it room and it halted in front of the red carpet. The door was lifted and a tall figure stepped out of the car. It was Rylan Daystar. He was dressed in a black suit which brought oh the amber glow in his eyes. His dark brown hair was combed back perfectly and it glittered courtesy of the flashes of the paparazzi’s cameras. Nobody seemed to recognize him but that didn’t matter. They couldn’t stop taking photos of the gorgeous man standing before them. A valet came towards Rylan and dropped his key into his hand. Rylan watched his car get driven away before stepping onto the red carpet. He was feeling confident. Tonight was the night he was going to make his first appearance as the billionaire entrepreneur, Rylan Daystar. He walked through the red
Frederick McCullough threw the lamp off his desk in rage. He watched the lamp roll across the floor gently heading towards the door. There were so many questions running through his mind. How was this possible? How did Rylan accumulate such an amount of wealth in a short span? It was almost impossible. Five years! It took him only five years to become richer than him. It was unbelievable. Frederick ran his fingers through his black hair in frustration. He was in a dilemma. What was he going to do about Rylan? He owned a major share in one of his most prized possessions. There was no way he could convince the other shareholders to make Rylan sell his share. Ever since Rylan had become the anonymous shareholder, the business had boomed. Ratings were off the charts and sales were increasing expeditiously. It was insane to think that Rylan could do something like that. He had always thought of Rylan as useless. Never for once did he know he could be that smart. There was a possibility he
“Stay away from me!” Dayton screamed as he ran away from a man pursuing him. The man who was dressed in black held a silver .45 Winchester magnum as he chased his victim. Dayton could feel his heart racing as he ran for his life. He realized quickly that there was no one coming to save him. This could be the last moments of his life. The man in black squeezed the trigger of the .45 magnum and the bullet whizzed past Dayton’s ear. Dayton turned back to the man and realized that he was closing in on him. He had to make as much distance as he could away from the man. Another shot was fired and this time, the bullet flew over his head. Dayton rushed towards the corner and disappeared into the darkness. The man in black saw this and headed after him. A few meters away, a black sedan was parked and a figure with a black mask inhabited the vehicle. He held the steering wheel with a pair of black gloves concealing his hands. He tapped the steering wheel impatiently and it seemed he was wait
“Partner?” Detective Rogers questioned. “Yes, Rogers?” Lieutenant Wesley said. “I’m sure you’ll do well to make her feel welcome.”“I didn’t ask for a partner, Lieutenant,” he pointed out. “I can take care of myself perfectly.”Lieutenant Wesley turned to Jain who seemed lost in the middle of everything. “Can you give us a minute, Reynolds?” He asked. Jain nodded and walked out of the door. Lieutenant Wesley rose from his desk and slammed both hands on his desk. “What the hell do you think you’re doing, Rogers?” He barked through his gritted teeth. “Lieutenant. I don’t need a partner,” Stanley pointed out. “I’ve been riding solo for two years now.”“Well, that’s over now. It’s either you get used to having someone watching your back or you get lost.”Stanley Rogers sighed. He needed a cigarette badly, but he couldn’t smoke in here. That would get on Lieutenant Wesley’s nerves. “Fine.”“What? I didn’t get that.”Stanley knew that Lieutenant Wesley had heard him perfectly. He was
Dayton Veeschoris was happy when he arrived at the lobby of his apartment floor in one piece. Every day seemed to be his last lately. Ever since that night he almost got killed, he had always watched his back and made sure he didn’t do anything stupid. He was hiding from them, and he knew they would come after him soon. Nobody could escape them. They had hired a hitman and Dayton had thought that night would be his last. It was supposed to be his last. He felt queasy about the fact that he had cheated death. A cat meowed from the window and it startled him. Dayton turned around and the cat jumped out of the window. He shook his head and moved towards his door. It was just a few doors away. As he made his way towards it, the door beside him swung open, and an elderly woman stepped out of it. He knew her too well. She was his neighbor, Deborah Mannon. A cat came out of the door and sat at her foot. It had gray fur with black stripes decorating it. “Good evening, Mrs. Mannon,” Dayton g
Eve McCullough stepped out of the Cadillac and the door was shut behind her by the driver. She stared at the mansion before her and smiled. She was finally back to him after all those years of traveling around. After going through a lot from her divorce from Rylan, she decided to travel around the world and gain knowledge but also help people. It has helped a lot from moving on. “Home sweet home,” she said with sarcasm. The trunk of the Cadillac was swung open by the driver and her luggage was brought out. Eve turned to him and nodded in appreciation. “Thank you, Bennett. You can drop it on the porch.”“Yes, Miss McCullough,” Bennett said, carrying her suitcases to the porch. He dropped them and took off immediately. Eve watched the car leave the estate before climbing the porch stairs. As she swung the door open, she found Karen rushing towards her. “Eve!” She shrieked. Eve’s lips spread out into a warm smile as her baby sister hugged her roughly. Eve was almost knocked out fr
Detective Reynolds stepped out of her black Acura. She was late for her first case. She walked towards the ruckus that unfolded before her. There was an ambulance with a couple of police cars outside the house. A yellow police tape surrounded the house and it stopped a little crowd that had gathered from infiltrating the scene. Jain walked up to the policewoman who seemed to be in charge and flashed her badge at her. “Detective Reynolds, LAPD,” she announced. The policewoman who was blonde in her uniform gazed at her as she held her belt. “Detective Reynolds?” She questioned. “I’ve never heard of you.”Jain clenched her jaws. She couldn’t believe that this was happening. “Well, you see. I’m new here,” Jain explained. “I just got transferred from San Diego.”The policeman raised an eyebrow at her indicating she wasn’t buying the story she was selling. At that moment, Stanley stepped out of the house and spotted Jain conversing with a policewoman. He had his phone in his hand which
Two weeks. It took just two weeks for Dayton and Rylan to get explicit information about the shareholders of the company. Rylan’s intuition had paid off. He knew that the shareholders were hiding something. There was no way anyone could have a stable income as such as them when they were invested in one or two companies. There had to be something that brought them more money. And he had found them out. It was like taking candy from a baby. Dayton had been a big help in finding things out. Countless nights he had worked with Williams while Rylan had been away on business ventures. He had joined them as best as he could, and it had finally paid off. They had all the documents they needed to frame them. It had taken time, but they had been able to discover all the secrets of the shareholders. Dayton came into the kitchen and placed a few documents on the counter. Rylan, who was making a smoothie, turned around to gaze at the documents. Rylan dropped the cup of smoothie and walked tow
