HIS RETURN

Mrs Allison was busy in her garden when her phone rang. She wiped her hands on her apron and answered the call.

"Hello?"

"Hi, Kayla. It's Paul."

Mrs Allison felt a knot form in her stomach at the sound of his voice. She hadn't spoken to him since the last time he tried to ruin her marriage.

"What do you want, Paul?" she asked coldly.

"I miss you, Kayla. I want us to talk."

"I don't want to talk to you, Paul. You hurt me and my family."

"I know, and I'm sorry for that. I just...I miss you. I miss us."

"There is no us, Paul. There never was."

"I disagree. We had something special, Kayla. You can't deny that."

"We had nothing, Paul. What we had was a mistake, and I regret it. I regret ever getting involved with you."

"Please, Kayla. Just hear me out. I need you in my life."

"You need to move on, Paul. Leave me and my family alone!"

"But I can't, Kayla. I can't stop thinking about you."

"That's your problem, not mine. I'm happy with my husband and my children. I don't need you in my life.
