After Jakes had been able to see Pa Drakes and given "Surety Alliance" to him, he decided to go on his proposed trip to check on the other companies outside Fitbuck city, which he owned. The other cities where the other companies were were not very far from each other; this made it easy for Jakes. Even though he could not visit all the companies in a day, he planned to visit them within a week.

Lucas had accompanied Jakes for the trip, as his assistant, so he was also privileged to visit all the places Jakes went to. He adhered to all instructions given to him by Jakes, making it easy for Jakes to inspect most of the investments within a short time.
