031 - The Call

I was standing in front of the mirror, buttoning the two buttons on my arms. The cell phone, which was still lying on the nightstand beside the bed, rang. I immediately finished buttoning the right side before grabbing it and looking at the caller's name.

"Mr. Hawthorne," I muttered before picking up the phone. "Hello, Mr. Hawthorne?"

"Theo, what happened?" Mr. Hawthorne immediately asked in a tense voice. "Why are our two investors releasing their funds from the company? What are you doing?"

I knew that this news would quickly reach Mr. Hawthorne, but not so fast either. I haven't prepared an answer at all, and I haven't prepared myself to respond to it. "I'm sorry, Mr. Hawthorne. I'll fix it right away."

"I'm going back now, don't do anything. I need to know what's really going on." Mr. Hawthorne made no compromises and said it straight out.

I could only sigh and reply, "Okay, Mr. Hawthorne."
