They didn't invite many people to the birthday party because of the lawsuit issue. They just invited their neighbors and close friends to have a meal in the private room.
In the late afternoon, James brought the present to the private room with Ava.
Her parents were talking with their friends.
"Ava and her husband!"
"He looks great! They are a perfect couple!" They greeted Ava and James politely.
Amelia was a bit sullen and forced a smile.
"Hello, everyone." Ava greeted them politely and hugged Amelia. "Mom, happy birthday. This is the present for you!"
Amelia smiled. Her friends said that Ava was a great daughter. James handed Amelia the present too. "Happy birthday."
But Amelia treated him differently. She put on a long face. "Put it here."
"He is a good man! Mrs. Bailey, you are so lucky to have him as your son-in-law. My son-in-law did nothing for me on my birthday. He just made a call. They have no comparison."
"Yeah! Mrs. Bailey, open the box and see what he has got for you."
They gabbled, since the guest was curious, Amelia opened the gift box. There was a jade bracelet in the box.
"What a lovely bracelet! It looks great."
"It looks familiar. Isn't it the new product of Gucci?"
A chubby woman stood up and took a closer look at the bracelet. She asked enviously.
"Exactly." James nodded.
"Mrs. Bailey, you must be happy. It's worth over 3 thousand dollars! I love it but it was a bit expensive. He is so generous!" Said the woman.
The others were envious too.
Ava put on a smile. She felt satisfied with James, which was rare.
But Amelia was not happy at all. She even glared at James and said loudly, "Generous? He didn't pay the bill, of course, he was generous."
"Mrs. Bailey, what do you mean?" A middle-aged man asked in confusion.
James is a matrilocal son-in-law. He stays at home all day and has no job. He doesn't have any income. He relies on my daughter!" Amelia said sullenly.
People took a tumble after hearing that. When they looked at James, they seemed scornful. It turned out that James spent the money of the Bailey family like a parasite.
James pouted secretly to cool down. He told himself that it would be over soon and let it go.
"Mom, don't talk about it."
Ava noticed that James' face was gloomy. She knew that Amelia's words hurt. So Ava pulled Amelia.
"Why are you still standing?" Amelia said to James unhappily.
James sat next to Ava quietly. Ava couldn't help shaking her head in disappointment. She hoped that James could be bolder. She hated cowards!
After all the guests arrived, Joseph asked the waiters to serve the food. There were various delicious foods. Just as they were about to dig in, the door of the private room was opened. A handsome man in a white suit walked in with flowers.
"Sorry, I'm late."
He walked over and smiled apologetically.
Oliver walked over and greeted Mrs. Bailey Happy birthday. Joseph hurried to ask the waiter to fetch a chair for Oliver.
Mrs. Bailey, this is a gift for you! Look at it and see if you like it."
Just as Oliver sat down, he took out a box, opened it, and handed it over to Amelia.
People were shocked. They exclaimed, "What a beautiful necklace! Are these Diamonds?
"Exactly. They are Diamonds. Before I returned home, I asked a famous jewelry designer to design the necklace for you. The necklace was made from gold. Apart from Diamonds, there are three diamonds. It suits Mrs. Bailey perfectly." Oliver glanced at Ava, then James.
"This is luxurious. It must be expensive!" Many people's eyes lit up. They looked at Amelia enviously.
"It's okay, just one million dollars. It's a bit expensive, but it is worth the money if Mrs. Bailey likes it." Oliver was generous.
"Oh, boy! One million dollars! Oliver. Amelia laughed joyfully. But she said politely, "Oliver it's too expensive. I can't take it. You should take it back. Thanks, again."
"Mrs. Bailey, take it. I'm close to Ava, it's not a big deal." He waved his hand.
Amelia paused and nodded. Yeah, I almost forgot that you used to be close in high school. You had dinner with us often.
"You liked her since middle school, right? You wrote many letters to her."
"Yes, you still remembered that!" Oliver glanced at Ava deeply.
Mom, it has been years!" Ava blushed.
"Yeah, it was a long time ago. And she got married. It's not appropriate to talk about it."
Suddenly, someone Knocked on the door.
Two people walked in. One of them was the manager. He was in a suit. "Excuse me. Here's the thing. Because of some mistakes, we got you the wrong private room. You booked Room 3. But this is room 1. Room 1 was booked by someone else. They will be here soon. Can you please go to room 3?"
Ava stood up and said angrily, "This is your fault! You should be responsible for that. We've started eating. It's not proper to ask us to go to another room!"
"Yeah! Why don't you just let them eat in room 3? Why should we go?" Amelia was angry too.
I'm sorry. But they are our regular customers and they always book room 1. They have never booked other rooms. Could you please go to room 3 now? We can give you 50% off for the mistakes we've made." The manager smiled. He knew the identities of the guest who booked room 1. They were all big shots in HonorGrave. He didn't dare to offend them.
"How could you say that? Do you think we would compromise for money?" Oliver stood up sullenly, he was smart and knew when to stand out.
The manager wanted to explain. Just then, some people walked in with gloomy faces. A Middle aged man was in the lead. He said angrily, "What's the problem? Haven't you fixed it? Do you want to starve my guests?"
Seeing the middle-aged man, James was surprised. It was Leo Meyer, his father's P.A.
Mr. Meyer, we won't trifle with you. Please wait a minute. We'll take care of this."
The manager smiled. Leo was his regular customer and he was a businessman of high status in HonorGrave. So he had to cheer him up.
The boss glared at the manager and said to Ava, "I'm so sorry. This room was booked. I will give you the room for free today. Please go.
He became tough.
We're not going anywhere! We'll pay the bill."
Amelia was hot-tempered and proud. It would be a slap in the face if they had to leave.
Leo looked at them and he was very angry.
Just then, Oliver walked forward and took out his business card. He handed it to Robert and said, "Mr. Meyer, my name is Oliver Cooper. This is my business card. I can understand how you feel. But today is Mrs. Bailey's birthday. Could you please let us finish the meal here? I'll pay a visit to you to show my gratitude." Mr. Robert took the business card and looked at it. He glanced at James and nodded. "Fine. Now that it's her birthday, I should not make things difficult for you on such a big day. You can have the room." He winked at James and left. Apparently, he agreed just because of James. But people didn't think so. After that, they gave Oliver compliments. "Oliver you're awesome. Young and wonderful! You've good manners. No wonder he said yes!" "Yeah. If James hadn't done that, he might have been harshly treated." I think Oliver's business card worked. He knew Oliver's identity, so he wanted to make friends with Oliver. Oliver agreed with them, but he just waved his hand
"James, are you bent on making me die today?" Fumed Amelia, who was still defending Oliver. "You don't have the means and still dare to falsely accuse Oliver." "She's right James, you're out of line today, reproached the other guests. They all reprimanded him. Ava glared angrily at James too after seeing how angry her mother was. "James, apologize to Amelia now," urged Joseph. If James continued insisting like this, things could turn ugly. James understood he was a loser in their eyes. No matter how he tried to explain, nobody would believe him. He was also too lazy to explain. "Mom, I'm sorry," said James very reluctantly. But Amelia refused to accept his apology. "Follow me out," said an angry-looking Ava. She exploded the moment they stepped out of the VIP room. "James, you've utterly embarrassed me today," fumed Ava. It's been a long time since mom was happy and you've ruined it. James felt very helpless when he saw how angry his wife was. He pursed his lips. They was n
"I didn't step in to help your legal case because of Oliver Cooper. I was asked by Mr. Meyer," said Mr. Fuller. The smile on Oliver's face froze immediately when he heard those words. The mood in the room also turned awkward and stifling. "If there's nothing else, I'll hang up," said Mr. Fuller. Since nobody responded, he ended the call. "Mr. Fuller?" Repeated Joseph. He asked with a frown, "Who's he?" James continued to keep his head down and ate his dinner. His heart was calm like still water. Leo must have arranged this. Just then, the door of the VIP room was pushed open. Carlie horn entered the room with a line of waitresses. They were carrying trays of delicious food and top-quality champagne and red wine. "Are you Mrs. Bailey?" Asked Carlie with a huge smile. She conducted herself in a prim and proper manner. "Yes, I am," said Amelia, looking puzzled. She had no idea what was going on. Carlie gave a slight nod and all the gifts were placed on the table. "Mrs. Bailey,
Although Ava was angry, there was nothing she could do about it. Those were her grandfather's orders so she could not change them. Besides that, she also has to figure out how to explain the situation to her parents. Ava went over to her parent's house. Immediately after arriving, she say on the sofa. She spoke haltingly, "Mom, I got something to tell you. You know... Grandpa has handed the project with Cartier over to Allen. I..." Before Ava could finish, she exploded in anger. "What did you say?" Amelia jumped to her feet in anger. "You clinched that deal! How could that bitch Allen take it?" "No, I have to talk to them about this." "What do you think you're doing?" Asked Joseph. He pulled his wife back frantically, "Dad has already decided. Are you going to argue with him?" "I..." Amelia was stumped after she heard what her husband said. Amelia felt so helpless. "Then... Then is our family doomed to be bullied?" She covered her face with her hands and burst out crying. "Yo
"Mrs. Miller, Mr. Shawn Bailey would like me to inform you to attend the board of directors meeting," said Jane Garcia. The secretary spoke very politely. "Me?" Said Ava. She frowned subconsciously. She was a mere project manager of a branch of the Bailey Group subsidiary company. Her grandfather did not have high expectations of her. Also, she was not part of the main family. Those who were not part of the main family were never called to attend the board of directors meeting. When was she suddenly asked to attend the board of directors meeting? "Yes, Mr. Miller, please hurry over," said Jane urgently. "Alright. I'll be there as soon as possible," replied Ava. She was still puzzled. James saw the perplexed look on his wife's face and asked, "what's wrong?" He pretended not to know anything. "Oh, the assistant from the sales department gave me a call. She told me to attend the board of directors meeting," replied Ava. Then she said worriedly, Do you think something bad happened
Vice president Bailey," Jackson said coldly as he impatiently glanced at his watch. "You have three minutes." Turner could tell that if Jackson was displeased with the results of this matter, the board meeting later would be greatly impacted. It is possible that the board meeting might even be canceled due to this. When that happens, Turner would not be able to answer to Shawn Bailey. It was possible that the whole Bailey Group might even collapse and cease to exist. Clenching his teeth, Turner turned to glare at Allen. "You bastard! How dare you act all arrogant and behave presumptuously in front of Mr. Jackson? Due to your actions, the Bailey Group had been brought to shame!" "I..." Allen stuttered as he looked at unhappily. He felt that he had done nothing wrong. However, Allen had no choice but to bow his head submissively as he said, "Yes, I will clean this up immediately. Just as Allen reached out to take the mop from the cleaner, Jackson's voice called out again. "I think
"This is not something you need to concern yourself with," James said nonchalantly and added. "I have my plans." "Mrs. Miller, I understand," Jackson replied and fell silent, not daring to talk any further. Although James' identity had been kept a secret, he remained a decisive, meticulous, and calm person. His wits and cleverness had been well demonstrated in the events which happened at the Bailey Group today. Jackson was a smart person and knew that he should follow his rules strictly. He also understood that he should focus his attention on doing what James had asked him to do, and not make any wild guesses regarding James' intentions. "Oh, right." James paused for a second before continuing. "Tomorrow Shawn Bailey would most likely ask you to meet him in person. When that happens, do not show any eagerness in agreeing to any of his terms." "I understand." Jackson nodded his head earnestly. "Alright. There might be some hiccups tomorrow. You may contact me if anything signif
"Sky, I also hold shares of the Bailey Group," Ava said modestly. "Besides I'm the overall person in charge of this project. If the project is successful, I will take credit for my work. However, if the project goes south, I will naturally bear all the consequences." Ava replied. "Oh really..." Angela snorted coldly after hearing Ava's words. "Don't think you can act smart or arrogant just because you are the overall person in charge of this project. Ava, you better think again. Know where you stand and the extent of your capabilities." Angela mocked. "Some people don't just know that they are making a fool out of themselves" Sky muttered. "Let me give you a piece of advice. It would be best for you to get lost, and bring along your loser husband. The farther, the better. That way you will not disgrace the Bailey family!" Sky barked. "It's so lively in here. "A male voice resonated around the room as the door behind them suddenly opened. Jackson briskly walked into the room. "Mr. S
