A security guard held Stephan by the hand, and before he could say a word, he was bundled out of the hotel. “ No, She is my wife. You don't understand,” he shouted, and was thrown out of the mansion. Stephan felt deeply hurt. The fact that he was treated like trash even right after he had caught Elena red-handed. She still humiliated him in the presence of her boyfriend.

Stephan flagged down a cab and went back home. He was about to unlock the door when he found out that the door was unlocked. Thinking that the house had been burgled, his hand trembled as he opened the door. Stephan crept into the house, trying not to make any sound. His eyes were wide open when he saw Elena's parents seated right in front of him. “ Good afternoon, Mr Gilbert.” Stephan was about to greet him when two hot slaps landed on his cheeks.

Stephan raised his head slightly trying to know what could prompt those actions, but before he could blink, he was pushed to the ground once again. “Who do you think you are? Do you think, simply because you got married to my daughter, that gives you the right to embarrass her!” Feonard shouted at Stephan?

“ Do you know what she did? How can you talk down to me right after what she did? She is dating shamelessly even right after she is married to me and here you are telling me that I embarrassed her.” Stephan replied, holding his hot red cheek.

Rita laughed and looked at Stephan, “Oh really? Because you are married to my daughter, you think you own her?” she asked with anger, and Stephan shook, seeing the two demons right in front of him. It was obvious that they hated him. Stephan stood up gently and wondered why they had allowed him to marry their daughter in the first place if they weren't going to show him he deserved love.

“If you hated me all this while, then why did you allow me to marry your daughter?” Stephan asked with anger.

“ Because you are nobody. You are just some nicumple that doesn't have anybody to fight for him. You have no right to talk back to my daughter or look down on her. You are just warming the seat for the real owner. And when the time is finally right, we are going to discard you.” Feonard said, and walked out of the house.

Rita also hissed and followed her husband. Stephan collapsed onto the couch right before him. He knew his life was a mess, but he couldn't complain. He slowly drifted into a long slumber trying to forget all about his sorrow.

The loud sound of Elena's car honking woke Stephan up. He slowly rubbed his eyes and looked at the time. His eyes nearly popped out of their sockets when he saw the time on the wall.

Elena opened the door and smirked. “Didn't tell me you were waiting for me?” She said, feeling a little tipsy and wanting to fall.

“ Look at you, you are just disgusting.” Stephan shouted at her. “ You have the family name and the power many would want to kill and die for, but you are misusing it.” he said, shaking his head

“And who are you to tell me that? Have you taken a look at yourself, your life before you met me? You are nobody and you will always be. Without the help of my family you would have been a nobody, an orphan who would die on the streets of New York and you dare talk back to me?” Elena shouted furiously.

“ I am your husband, and you are going to show me some respect.” Stephan shouted at Elena. “ You are not going to see anybody again, and you are not going to talk to any of those scoundrels again!” Stephan shouted at her.

The tension was high as both of them were at each other's throats.

“ You are nothing without me. And you know what, I am going to show you what I am really made of.” Elena said in her drunken state.

“Since you have decided to do whatever you feel like doing, then I am going to do worse.” Stephan said with a smirk on his face. “ Really? I would like to see how far you are going to go without us. Without the help of my family,” Elena barked.

Stephan walked back to the wine rack and picked a bottle of wine. He poured himself a drink and began to drink to stupor. He hated his life, he hated the fact that he was a beggar and not some man his wife would give the respect he deserved.

Feeling drunk, Stephan walked into the guest room to sleep. He knew sleeping with Elena would only make him more angry and annoyed. He had no one to talk to, share his feelings with and the only friend he had was outside the state.

His mind went back to what Elena's father had said. “What does he even mean by the word I was a substitute?” he asked himself while holding the bottle of liquor he was holding.

Stephan could barely think. He landed on the bed as he drifted into a long sleep.

The chirping sound of the bird woke him up the next day. Stephan remembered what had transpired between his wife and him, and he felt sober. He knew he needed to apologize to her and tell her he was sorry. It was only right to let the sleeping dog lie.

Stephan knew no matter what he did, Eleanor had the power to make his life miserable. She could do anything with just the snap of her fingers and that was all.

He tried to get out of his bed, but he couldn't. He was having a hangover from the drink he had last night. He was about to get up and warm himself a soup when he saw a message alert on his phone. Stephan looked at the message, and he opened his eyes with disbelief. His life was slowly taking a U-turn
