Chapter 11

Maxwell nodded at him and directed his gaze back to the workers before he opened his mouth to speak.

“Good morning everyone." He spoke in a hoarse voice that commanded attention.

At that moment, everywhere went still and everyone paid attention to him.

“Good morning, Sir." Some workers replied to his greetings while some were unsure of what response to give.

They didn't know who he was and were not ready to address him like someone who was superior to them.

Until they were sure of his status, then his due respect would be given to him.

“I know that you're all wondering a lot about the young man standing before you." Maxwell continued in a very serious tone as he pointed at himself.

“Well, if you must know. I'm your new boss and Mr. Victor Morgan would no longer show his face here again. His job is done here.”

"And, I'm not going to waste my time to give the details about that.”

While Maxwell spoke, he saw the surprised look on their faces.

Some were happy about the new development. However, they were uncertain since they were yet to learn about their new CEO.

“Who amongst you could remember the name ‘Edward Hunt’?" Maxwell threw the question to everyone and many became more confused.

Only a few had heard of Edward since he passed away a long time ago.

It's been more than two decades since Maxwell's parents died so they've been forgotten by people, especially the workers.

And all of the workers were new faces, except for a few who had been there for more than a decade.

“I remember Edward Hunt because he was a very good man. He was the CEO of this firm many years ago. Unfortunately, we heard the bad news of his unfortunate and untimely demise and the evil Victor Morgan took over.” A man in his late fifties replied to Maxwell's question and everyone turned to his direction.

Maxwell and Pablo also exchanged glances before he pointed to the man and asked. 

“You. What is your name?" 

“My name is Collins Greenwood." The man replied immediately and everyone anticipated Maxwell's response.

Collins Greenwood was the only one who knew Edward Hunt very well.

He was the oldest worker at the place and Victor was about to retire him before the case with Maxwell.

Victor didn't know Collins personally. However, he believed that the man must have worked for the late Edward.

Perhaps, it was one of the reasons Victor never promoted Collins.

He just left him to continue to work as a laborer even when he was getting older.

Collins, on the other hand, didn't quit the job. He only had hopes that things would eventually change around the place and Victor would go back to wherever he came from.

“Collins Greenwood." Maxwell repeated the words with a darkened expression and the man nodded but was not shaken by Maxwell's cold response.

“Yes, Sir." He replied to Maxwell.

After a while, Maxwell chuckled dryly and turned to the other workers before he continued to address them.

"Well, I'm his only son and I've come back to take charge of everything. However, I'd be needing your support and loyalty but if you know that your loyalty still lies in Victor Morgan, then start leaving now.”

"I'm giving you the chance because if you're found out feeding that man with the affairs of this place, I would unleash my wrath on that person.”

"Do I make myself clear?”

"Yes, Sir.” They echoed, this time, their voices were louder.

It had been confirmed who Maxwell was.

Although they were all confused as to how it happened, they just had to accept what they saw before them.

Maxwell was their new boss.

Lifting up his right hand, Maxwell pushed his hair backwards and let out a deep sigh before he continued.

“Your new CEO will be communicated to you all soon. You can now go back to work and sorry for taking much of your time.”

Maxwell quickly dismissed them but called out to the young lady that had been standing by the side.

Swiftly, Diana, Victor's secretary ran up to Maxwell.

“Yes, Sir. Is there anything you want me to do for you?" 

Diana had been working as Victor's secretary for many years.

Although the man was not a good person and often yelled and insulted her, she still stayed in the job because the pay was good.

And Victor was not a womanizer, unlike some other bosses who had made advances at her.

Victor was a very ambitious man and was focused only on making a lot of money.

In fact, the man had grown the company more all these times he was running it.

He made many connections, secured a lot of contracts and grew the company which was the only thing Maxwell was happy about.

Victor grew the company like it was already his, unlike some people who convert companies that don't belong to them, then go ahead to run it down.

Victor didn't do that because his plan was to completely eliminate Maxwell.

He was going to send someone inside the prison to get rid of Maxwell. Unfortunately, he ran out of time and lost everything he converted.

“I need you to go and call Collins Greenwood for me." Maxwell instructed and the young lady obeyed immediately without asking any questions.

Maxwell and Pablo nodded at each other before they made their way to the CEOs office.

While at the office, Maxwell settled down on the Swivel seat for the CEO while Pablo sat opposite him.

He picked up the pen on the table and began to play with it.

After a moment of silence, he said to Pablo. “What do you think about the man?" 

"I trust your judgement and I believe that you're a great judge of character. If you think he can do it, then give him a trial.” Pablo replied to him.

"From what we've heard, he's garnered a lot of experience from working here. There's no need for you to search for anyone else. I'm sure that you've gotten what you need.”

Pablo was still speaking when his phone began to ring.

He took it out and turned to Maxwell before muttering. “Duties calls, I have to go now. I have clients waiting for me."
