“Is this some kind of trick? What is she doing here at your house?”

Angel stood before him with a warm smile on her face. “I called him and gave him the information that he needed. That was why the men were able to find you easily and at the right place and time.”

Maxwell began to fume. He could not believe that Pablo was working with Angel. Why were they working together?

He doesn't want to have anything to do with Angel no matter what she did for him. He was just grateful but didn't want to associate himself to Angel.

What was she thinking? That he'd just spread his hands open and hug her because she helped him retrieve some documents. That will never happen.

Turning to Pablo, he asked furiously. “What is she doing here? Please, make her leave or I'll be the one to leave.”

Pablo shook his head disapprovingly. “You have to calm down. Angel is only trying to help. I know everything that happened in the past and I'm not happy about it as well.”

“No, I'm not going to calm down. This woman joined forces with my enemies and ruined my life. They made me waste two years of my life in prison. If it weren't for the presidential pardon, I'll still be in there for a few more years.”

Turning to Angel, he angrily asked “Tell me, what do you have to say about it? You claim to be helping me. But like I've told you before, turn back the hands of time so I won't go to prison. That's the help I need from you now.”

Maxwell was fuming. Angrily, he began to walk towards the door but was halted by Pablo's voice.

“How are you going to reclaim your father's legacy? Do you want to live like a pauper for the rest of your lives while the Morgans lavishes in your wealth. I'm sure you're not daft.”

“Those documents alone cannot help you if you don't have a good lawyer helping you. We both know that you're penniless, how are you going to afford a good lawyer? Well, the choice is now yours to make. I'm sure that your late parents would agree with me.”

The room was completely silent for a while. The maid, who had been standing there and waiting to lead Maxwell to the visitors' room, decided to excuse them.

They'd call for her when they need her.

After a deep sigh, Pablo continued. “You can choose to walk out of that door or walk and work with me. Pretend like Angel is not here. However, you should know that she's just played a huge role by risking her life and breaking through the Morgans' safe to retrieve those documents in your pocket.”

Maxwell was without a word. After standing at the place for a while, he walked back to where Pablo stood.

“Alright, I'm ready. What should I do next?”

“Firstly, you have to freshen up and then come and eat something. This is where we'll all stay and fight the Morgans together.”

Without sparing Angel a glance, Maxwell followed the maid who had already been summoned.

A while later, the trio drove to the court and Pablo filed an appeal.

Before evening was over, the Morgans got a summon from the court. They could not believe it when their message got to them.

“Can you imagine that pauper summoning us to court, I'm going to show him the stuff I'm made of. I think he's still in the dark about what I'm capable of doing to him. Maxwell should thank his star that I didn't get rid of him. How dare he summon me to court and for what?”

Victor bragged to his wife as he tore open the latter that was sent to them. Patricia, on the other hand, was anxious and curious at the same time.

What could be the reason for the summon?

As soon as Victor read the part when Maxwell was claiming ownership of all their properties and the wealth they were enjoying, he turned pale and gaped at his wife while letting the latter fall freely on the ground.

Swiftly, he rose to his feet and raced upstairs. He was on his way to his study.

Patricia also caught the letter and hastily ran her eyes through it before running after her husband. Before she got the study, Victor was already sitting on the ground with his hands on his head.

“Honey, why are you sitting on the floor? Are the documents no longer intact?”

Patricia had just finished speaking when her eyes caught the safe which was open. She rushed to it and found it empty.

“Oh my God? How did it happen?” Shocked, she closed her open mouth with her right hand.

Patricia knew about the safe and the documents in it. However, she had never opened it before. She didn't even have the keys because it was always with her husband.

“How come?” Her heart began to race as she lowered herself and sat beside her husband.

“I don't know.” Victor replied with his hands still on his head. He was in deep thought and kept wondering who broke into his safe and stole the documents.

'Is it Valerie? No, she would never do such a thing to her family.’ Victor asked and answered the question in his mind.

“Who's responsible for cleaning my study?”

With that in mind, Victor rose up and hurried downstairs. When he summoned all his domestic staff and asked them the question, none of them agreed to have taken the documents. They even denied knowing anything about the missing documents.

Victor became furious as he turned to glance at his wife who was more confused than him.

“If none of them know about the documents, then who stole it?” Patricia asked in a very serious voice.

“Even if any of them took it, no one will agree to committing the crime.”

Turning to the people lined up before him, Victor asked again. “This is the last time I'll ask this question and you guys should better say the truth or you won't like what I will do to all of you?”

There was complete silence among everyone as they stole glances at each other. They were all terrified as none of them knew what would befall them if the culprit was not caught.

“If none of you is willing to speak, then I'll get you all arrested. Since you're not trustworthy. I'll also make sure you all rot in jail.” Angrily, Victor took out his phone to call the police. However, one of them decided to speak up.

“I think I might know who broke into your safe.”
