Maxwell gaped in awe as the car drove out of the place while the few onlookers began to disperse. They were giving him a disappointed look as they left. It only meant that they believed all the rubbish that Maurice had spewed out.

Without a word, he turned around and started towards the house. Maxwell was still confused and could not explain what just happened outside. He had just been labeled a homewrecker. Worst was that he could not even say anything. Well, he had nothing to say.

Maxwell thought that he had had so much for one day. They could not even let him celebrate properly, his victory in court.

“Did he say that his name was Maurice Carter?” Maxwell asked the men with him and they both nodded.

“Yeah, I think he's the young master of the Carter family and the current CEO of Carters corporation.” Pablo replied and Maxwell nodded with a mischievous grin on his face. It was surely the reason the Morgans pushed their daughter into a marriage with him. He was a wealthy CEO.

Maurice got some nerve coming to his house to call him a homewrecker after giving him a serious warning.

It was true that he used to be Valerie's husband but that was in the past. Valerie no longer matters to him after she quickly believed the lie her parents told her.

Without thinking twice, she signed the divorce papers and shoved their marriage of several months into the bin.

“Maxwell, what are you going to do about him? If it was me, I wouldn't tolerate such insolence.” Wyatt asked and he only chuckled.

“Yeah, I won't tolerate it either. Maurice or whatever his name was should better brace up for what's coming to him.”

Maxwell sat back and poured himself more drinks. “Come on guys, let's not spoil the fun. Please drink up and make merry. Nothing should stop us from celebrating.”

Meanwhile, Valerie drove to her parents’ home and angrily flung her handbag on the sofa while yelling out the maid's name.

It was when she called the second time that she remembered that they no longer have a maid. Her family have changed homes and no longer have some things at their disposal.

When they were in charge of Maxwell's assets, they had many staff working for them. Unfortunately, things have changed for the worse and they have gone back to phase one.

Patricia walked out of the kitchen after wiping her hands. She was cooking. Something she hasn't done in so many years.

“Have you forgotten where you came to? We've been demoted and can't afford maids now.”

Valerie lifted her gaze and stared briefly at her mother. “I totally forgot Mom. Where's Dad? I can't believe what has happened to us.”

“Your Dad is in his room. It's really not going to be easy for him, especially since we no longer have a source of income. Everything was taken away from us, all his bank accounts were confiscated.”

Patricia went over and sat close to her daughter before continuing. “I only pulled out some money from my secret account. If the court knew about it, they would have blocked it as well.”

“We will survive on it for the meantime.”

“Is it that bad?” Valerie asked with concern.

“Yeah, it's that bad.”

Valerie and Patricia turned to see Victor descending the stairs in a long face. He looked like he was going for a serious fight.

“I went to the house?” Valerie finally spoke about the reason she came.

“What house?” The husband and wife asked almost at the same time as they turned and glanced at themselves.

“Our former house of course. I went to confront Maxwell. I told him I'll be going to court if he didn't give me my own share of the properties. Besides, we used to be a couple.”

When they heard the words that Valerie just said, the couple's jaws dropped. They weren't expecting Valerie to come up with anything like that.

Although they knew that it was a fruitless mission, they decided to let Valerie try it out while they stood as her backer. Who knows, something might come out of it.

“Are you sure you want to do this?”

Patricia asked with so much concern in her eyes. “Maxwell has become so powerful and I'm afraid of how this will end.”

Patricia lifted her face and quickly glanced at Victor who walked over to the wine shelf and brought the remaining scotch he had been drinking.

Victor went and sat on another sofa. They were indeed lucky to have not sold their old villa, if they did, they would have been homeless after Maxwell took over everything they've been enjoying.

“Yes, I agree with your mother. I don't think you should push through with this plan of yours. However, if you insist then we can only support you.”

After a moment of silence, Patricia raced to the kitchen. She forgot about her food and it was already burning.

When she finished dishing out the food, she called Valerie to join them but the latter was not hungry. Instead, she decided to start going home. Her husband must have been back from work.

“Valerie, whatever your decision is, just let us know.” Victor said to her before she stepped out of the door.

“I will.”

When Valerie got home, she didn't even sit down before she began to order the maid around.

Barbara, the middle aged woman who was working for Maurice saw Valerie as a spoiled brat. When Valerie first came into the house as a wife, the woman saw an innocent face and wondered if she was truly innocent. Unfortunately, Valerie proved her wrong.

“Take my bag to my room and get me a glass of water. Be fast about it.” She ordered while sitting down and the woman hastily obeyed.

She was still halfway on the stairs when Maurice walked inside with an indifferent expression.

Swiftly, Valerie rose up to welcome her husband but he halted her with his hand.

Confused and worried at the same time, Valerie inquired. “Why are you acting strange? Did anyone offend you in the office?”

Maurice shook his head and sat down. “No one from the office offended me. On the contrary, the one who offended me is staring right back at me.”

Valerie was dumbfounded. What was Maurice talking about? How did she offend him and when?

“I don't understand, Maurice. Explain to me how I offended you.”

With a dark expression, Maurice asked her. “Where are you coming from? I can see that you're just coming back because you've not changed your dress.”

“What's that question supposed to mean? I went to see my parents and you know that they're going through a rough time now.” Valerie retorted. Even though she didn't understand the direction of the question.

“Before you went to visit your parents, where did you go?”

Valerie was rendered speechless.

With his mouth open, Collins only gaped at Maxwell who was smiling warmly at him."I have made the right decision, haven't I?” He asked Collins who nodded repeatedly.Maxwell sat back on the chair smiling as he thought of something before saying to Collins.“Can you see that you're the answer to your own prayer and the hope you had.
