Chapter 0007

Leslie's eyes, wide and pleading, locked onto Darius. "You're really leaving, aren't you?" she asked, a note of urgency in her voice. "Please, Darius, you don't have to figure everything out alone. Come with me to the Werner estate. It'll be a fresh start."

Darius hesitated, his gaze shifting from Leslie's eager face to the ground, then back again. "Leslie, I—" he started, his voice trailing off.

"Please?" Leslie interjected, her hands clasped together as if in prayer.

The corners of Darius's mouth twitched into a half-smile. "Alright, Leslie. I'll come with you." He finally agreed.

Leslie's response was electric. "Yes!" she exclaimed, clapping her hands together. Her excitement was infectious. "Let's go then. The helicopter is waiting."

As they turned towards the helicopter, Lydia watched them, her heart sinking. She couldn't help but notice the effortless grace with which Leslie moved and the genuine warmth that radiated from her. Lydia felt a twinge of envy; Leslie was not only more stunning and wealthier, but seemed to possess a kind of inner light. "How could Darius, of all people, attract someone like her?" Lydia muttered under her breath, her fingers curling into fists at her sides.

Howard, who had been quietly observing the scene, leaned closer to Lydia. "Don't worry about it," he said, his voice low. "Leslie's just an adopted daughter. She's practically a nobody in the Werner family."

Lydia's eyes darted to Howard, searching his face for reassurance. "But look at her," she insisted, her voice tinged with bitterness. "And that helicopter... She must be important."

Howard scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Trust me, Lydia. In the grand scheme of things, she's just a pawn. Plus, we don't even know if she's really who she says she is."

Lydia chewed on her lower lip, considering Howard's words. A slow, cold resolve formed within her. "You're right," she said, her voice steadier. "I'm going to find out exactly who Leslie Werner is."

As Darius and Leslie climbed aboard the helicopter, Lydia's thoughts raced. Despite Howard's comforting words, a nagging doubt lingered.

'What if Leslie is everything she appears to be?' Lydia wondered, her heart heavy. The thought of Darius finding happiness and success outside of their marriage—a marriage she now realized she might have taken for granted—was too much to bear.

The helicopter landed slowly, but Leslie discovered that something was unusual.

In the manor, the servants of the Werner family stood respectfully in the courtyard, and several important figures of the Werner family also stood in the center of the courtyard very seriously.

Leslie felt a little strange. She is usually not taken seriously in the family. Why are there so many people in the yard now?

Darius also felt very strange. He asked cautiously: "These people...are they not here to welcome us?"

Leslie looked a little pale. With so many big people gathered together, it seemed like there must be something important. Aunt Rana was responsible for notifying all family members before, but why didn't Leslie get any news?

"Hurry up and land quickly. They should be preparing to welcome the big shots. If we interrupt this ceremony, I will be doomed!" Leslie said worriedly to the pilot.

The sound of the helicopter landing disturbed the big shots in the courtyard. The Lord of the Werner family frowned and said confusingly, "I didn't hear that Mr. Sanchez would come by helicopter?"

Standing next to the Lord, Rana sneered secretly, then pretended to observe the helicopter in the sky carefully, and said in surprise: "Oh, isn't that our family's helicopter? Who allowed it to take off?"

The housekeeper on the side said tremblingly: "I'm sorry, Madam. It was Miss Leslie who said she would use the helicopter this morning. I remember she had permission to use it, but I didn't know she would be back at this time... She should know today is the big day to welcome Mr. Sanchez…”

The Lord was very angry. He roared: "Who allowed this! This beast, does she want our Werner family to offend a big shot today? I will definitely drive her out of the house!"

At this moment, the gate of the Werner family's manor opened, and a group of luxury cars slowly drove in. However, the helicopter in the sky ruined this serious scene.

"It's over, it's all over now..." the Lord said tremblingly. He turned back and glared at Leslie's adoptive parents, and growled in a low voice: "If Mr. Sanchez is blamed, you will take that beast and get out of the Werner family!"
