Avery froze when she heard that question from Cassie. She didn't know what to say but certainly she had an answer for Cassie. She thought she didn't in any way deserve Cassie's trust. She was the one who had out Cassie's mother in the hospital, so why would she even for a second think that she was worthy of Cassie's trust.

And also, she was well aware that if Cassie came to find out about the truth, then surely she wouldn't think that Avery was so trustworthy.

"You cannot". Avery said.

Cassie was shocked, this was the first time that she had asked that question and had gotten a reply like that. She had friends, she had people that her relationship with then started from that single question and she thought it would be the same thing for Avery.

Normally, she would ask: "can I trust you?" And they would proceed to reply with "sure, you can'' or "I don't know, can you?"

Neither has a response been so direct, so truthful, so full over emotion, so filled with regret.
