Derek saw the unfavorable condition his nephew was in and as his uncle, it was his responsibility to provide for him the help Davide was in need of. He knew that if he did make such a bold step, the directors may not have his back but before he became the CEO, he was Davide's uncle. He had a responsibility to Davide and Davide's father. He had somehow become Davide's mentor, always coming to his aid when Davide needed it.

He saw from where he was standing how miserable his nephew had become. He had his head sunk low, he had shame gracing his features, his eyes could not be seen but Derek figured it no less fit in the equation of pity.
