"So?" Stanley asked, his voice sharp.

James felt a wave of embarrassment flood through him, wishing the ground would swallow him whole. He could feel Stanley’s subordinate’s mocking gaze piercing through him.

Stanley's assistant leaned in to whisper something in his ear, and Stanley's face instantly shifted to one of urgency. He rushed past James, moving like a blur, barely waiting for the car to come to a complete stop before dashing inside.

James wanted to stop him, but fear held him back. He could only wonder who had the power to make Stanley react like this. With no answers, he returned to his villa, where his father’s reprimands awaited.

Meanwhile, Ethan had taken his daughter to his villa in Spring, one of the most expensive and beautiful locations in the country. He had bought the entire villa a year ago, during his time in the military, choosing this particular one because of its unmatched beauty.

As he rubbed his daughter’s hair gently, he waited for Stanley Jos’s arrival. With him there, Ethan felt assured nothing would happen to his daughter.

A short while later, Stanley arrived, leaping from his car before it had fully stopped. He rushed into the villa, shaky with nerves. He was a minute late and had no idea what punishment Ethan would impose on him.

"Captain, I’m sorry I was late. It’s just—"

"Enough! Attend to my daughter!" Ethan’s roar cut him off, full of fury.

Stanley hurried to the girl, his mind racing. Daughter? When did the captain get married? He had been planning to marry his younger sister to Ethan. He even told her to seduce him when he came to Valeria. Who would have thought he was married with a daughter this old?

Stanley swiftly set up for the operation on Maya, making sure everything was in place.

A tear slid down Ethan's cheek, unable to bear seeing his daughter in pain.

Stanley and his team were shocked. The man who had killed thousands of people in wars without a second thought couldn’t bear to watch his own daughter suffer. This must be his true daughter.

Stanley made a mental note to warn his sister to stay away from Ethan. But would she listen to him? She was clearly infatuated with him. Taking a deep breath, Stanley focused on the task at hand.

Meanwhile, at the Lions Club, Lauren lay tied to a bed, the room sparse with nothing but the bed in the center. It was all to prevent her escape. Though the ropes were tight, they didn't cause her pain.

All she could think about was Maya.

She could only pray the doctors had started the operation. Maya was her everything. If she lost her, there would be no reason to continue living. Lauren had contemplated suicide when Ethan had left her, humiliated and abandoned. The worst thing anyone could experience was falling from grace to grass. She had watched helplessly as everything she had worked for in her entire life crumbled.

Her only family—her mother—didn’t care about her, living her life as though nothing had changed. Lauren realized if she ended her life, no one would even notice. But then, she discovered she was pregnant. Though she had no will to live, she couldn’t bring herself to decide for the child.

She had planned to put the baby in an orphanage after giving birth to her and end it all. But when she saw Maya for the first time, everything changed.

She swore she would endure for her daughter.

Now, as she remembered the past, tears flowed freely. She couldn’t stop sobbing, unable to stifle the sounds of her cries in the cold room.

She wondered if Ethan had ever thought about them. Did he even know she had been pregnant? Did he forget them over the years? She knew he hadn’t been at fault, as they had both been set up. But still, he shouldn’t have left her alone.

She understood why he had to leave—his life was at risk, but why couldn’t he take her with him? Who knew, maybe he was living a comfortable life somewhere while she and Maya continued to suffer.

"If Maya dies, I swear I’ll hunt him down myself. I’ll rip out his heart for not caring for us!" Lauren swore, her voice shaking with rage.

The door swung open, and Asper entered the room, having left her earlier after ordering his men to restrain her.

He approached her and gently ran his fingers along her face. "I must admit, Ice knows how to tie someone down. Now, I can have access to your body without resistance."

Lauren turned her head away, glaring at him with tear-filled eyes."You already have me. Now, tell your men to start the operation!" she demanded.

Asper’s laugh was cold and cruel. "Why should I? If your daughter dies, it’s all your fault. If you hadn’t disobeyed me, I wouldn’t have told the doctors to stop."

Lauren's heart sank as his words struck her like a knife. The cruel reality of the situation hit her harder than any physical pain. Maya's life, the only thing she had left, was at Asper’s mercy. She could only hope for a miracle, praying that somehow, Maya would survive.
