Chapter 5

Alex became undeterred as he gritted his teeth and called for the second time.

Fortunately, his colleague answered his phone call. Alex's eyes lit up as he hurriedly explained that he would need 15,000 dollars to bail out.

".... Brother Louise, please help me; I swear I'll return the money as soon as possible!" Alex desperately said through the phone; he nearly yelled at the end of his sentence.

"...."

There was a long silence as though Brother Louise was contemplating whether to help him or not. After all, 15 grand wasn't a small amount of money that one could easily fork out. Alex felt like he was stopping on needles as he waited for Brother Louise's response.

Soon, Alex heard Brother Louise's voice through his somewhat old phone.

"Don't call me again, and if you still dare call me again, I swear... damn it, this will get me fired!" Brother Louise's tone of voice sounded nervous as he spoke through the phone.

Alex becomes devastated and desperate. He didn’t know what he could do at this point.

Alex was about to give up....

Just then, as though lady luck were smiling at him, the phone rang again. Alex hesitated for a moment, but nevertheless, he picked up the phone. It was his colleague, Brother Louise. Talking about suspense...

".... Alright, I'll lend you the 15000 dollars that you need; if you don't pay me, I'm cutting ties with you! You hear me?" Brother Louise said in response that somehow, his tone sounded strange. But Alex merely brushed it off as he was grateful for the help.

"Thank you..." Alex was thankful that at least some of his colleagues at the office were willing to help him. Brother Louise was one of the few who helped him in the company when he was just a junior, and even when some of his co-workers took advantage and that fatty manager kept making trouble for him, it was brother Louise who defended him, so he was indebted to him. Truly, he was a good man!

Moreover, with the present situation he got himself into by offending the son of the company owner he was working for, it wouldn't be a surprise if some of his co-workers decided to backstab him just so they could get his position and to lessen their competitor's chances for a promotion.

Soon, Brother Louise asked him for the address of the police station and said he would soon rush over to help him pay the money himself. But then again, he sounded very odd, which was very unlike him.

Alex trusted his colleague, Brother Louise, who did arrive quickly and pay the bail. The police officers at the station could only frown as they snorted at him and reluctantly let him go.

Alex was very grateful and said. "I'll definitely return the money, Brother Louise."

With a weird expression on his face, brother Louise said. "Actually, there's no need to pay it back."

The shock was visible on Alex's face; after all, 15000 dollars wasn't a small amount of cash! He wanted to say something else, but his colleague, Brother Louise, waved his hand as though he were saying that he didn't mind and quickly left.

Somehow he felt that Brother Louise's action was a bit off.

Alex felt very confused and perplexed, he didn't know what was going on. In any case, he should leave quickly now that he has bailed out.

Alex tried looking through his pants.

"..." Alex's facial muscles twitched as he realized that he was dead broke. He let out a sigh of frustration. How was he supposed to head back now?

While Alex was contemplating a better solution, suddenly a luxury car that looked like a Mercedes-Benz pulled up to him. Just then, the door opened.

"Huh?!"

Who were these people? But then, the moment those people from the luxury vehicle got out, Alex's expression turned incredibly awful.

Of all people, it's him! It was no wonder Brother Louise's expression looked weird. He was sold out!

'No, I shouldn't jump to conclusions; I hope it's merely a misunderstanding.' Alex shook his head while bracing himself as he faced.

His enemies were carrying some metal bats and steel pipes and brandishing them in the air in a threatening manner. Couldn't they be more obvious in trying to intimidate him?
