ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY SEVEN

The next day, Ella arrived at the unfinished building where Lewis and Mr. Michael were waiting for her. She was dressed smartly, ready for whatever training they had planned. Lewis greeted her at the door with a smile, guiding her inside. “Welcome, Ella. Ready for your first day of training?” he asked, not even caring about the compliment.

Ella nodded, feeling more determined. This joy was supposed to be the most serious official job she had ever done in her life. “I’m ready. Let’s do this.”

Mr. Michael joined them in the expedient living room, where they had set up a table with some papers and a whiteboard. “Good morning, Ella. Today, we’ll go over the basics of your role. It’s important that you understand everything perfectly.”
