Chapter 14

Jessica woke up with a start, her heart pounding in her chest. She had overslept and she knew she had to be at the palace early. She quickly got out of bed and hurriedly changed into her work clothes, hoping that no one would notice her late arrival. She grabbed her cleaning supplies and made her way to the palace gates, hoping that the guards wouldn't question her.

"Good morning," she greeted the guards with a smile.

"Morning," one of the guards replied, his eyes scanning her up and down. "Where have you been?"

"I went for an early morning jog," Jessica lied smoothly, hoping that her nervousness didn't give her away.

The guard looked at her suspiciously for a moment, but then nodded and let her through the gates.

Jessica breathed a sigh of relief as she made her way towards the palace. She knew that she had to be careful, that any slip-up could get her caught. She had been Selena's spy for months now, reporting back to the evil witch about everything that was happening at the palace.

As she walked towards the cleaning supplies room, she noticed that the cleaners were already at work, their brooms and mops moving swiftly as they swept and polished the floors. Jessica quickly grabbed her supplies and started cleaning the hallways, hoping that no one would suspect her.

But as she was cleaning one of the rooms, she heard footsteps approaching. She quickly turned around to see Alpha Caleb standing at the doorway, his eyes fixed on her.

"Good morning, Alpha," she said nervously, hoping that he wouldn't suspect anything.

"Good morning, Jessica," he replied, his eyes studying her for a moment. "Is everything okay?"

"Yes, Alpha," she replied quickly. "Just doing my job."

Caleb nodded and then continued down the hallway, leaving Jessica feeling relieved and a little bit scared. She knew that she had to be careful, that any mistake could get her caught.

As the day went on, Jessica continued to do her chores, always on the lookout for any suspicious activity. But as the day wore on, she began to feel a sense of guilt. She had been lying to the people who had trusted her, and it was starting to weigh on her.

As she was cleaning one of the rooms, she heard a knock on the door. She quickly turned around to see Luna Rory standing at the doorway, a warm smile on her face.

"Hello, Jessica," Rory said. "How are you doing?"

"I'm doing fine, Luna," Jessica replied, trying to hide her guilt. "Just cleaning the room."

Rory nodded and then stepped into the room, her eyes scanning the walls.

"You're doing a great job," Rory said with a smile. "We're lucky to have you here."

Jessica felt a pang of guilt in her chest, but she forced a smile and thanked Rory for her kind words. As Rory left the room, Jessica knew that she had to make a decision. She couldn't keep lying to the people she had grown to care about. She had to confess to Caleb and hope that he would forgive her.

As the day came to a close, Jessica made her way to Caleb's office, her heart pounding in her chest. She knocked on the door and then stepped inside, her eyes fixed on the ground.

"Alpha Caleb," she said softly. "I need to talk to you."

Caleb looked up from his desk, his eyes studying her for a moment.

"What is it, Jessica?" he asked.

"I've been lying to you," she said, her voice trembling. "I've been working for Selena. I'm sorry."

Caleb's eyes widened in surprise, but then he stood up from his desk, his expression turning serious.

keeping a close eye on all their visitors, including Jessica.

As Caleb thought about the situation, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness. Jessica had been part of their pack for a long time, and it was hard to imagine that she could betray them like this.

But he knew that he couldn't let his emotions cloud his judgment. He had to find out the truth and take action if necessary.

"Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Logan," Caleb said, turning to his beta. "I'll have a talk with Jessica and see what she has to say."

Logan nodded, a serious expression on his face. "I'll keep an eye on her, Alpha."

Caleb nodded and then turned to Rory. "I need you to gather a few members of the pack and keep an eye on Selena's lair. I want to know everything that's going on there."

Rory nodded, her eyes determined. "I'll take care of it, Alpha."

With that, Caleb stood up from his desk and walked out of the room, his mind racing with thoughts about Jessica and Selena. He had to find out the truth, no matter how painful it might be.

Meanwhile, Jessica was in her room, trying to calm her nerves. She knew that she had to be careful now that she had been caught, but she also couldn't stop thinking about what Selena might do to her if she found out that she had been caught.

As she was lost in thought, there was a knock on her door.

"Jessica, it's Alpha Caleb. Can I speak with you for a moment?"

Jessica's heart raced as she stood up and opened the door. Caleb stood outside, his expression unreadable.

"Alpha Caleb, what can I do for you?" Jessica asked, trying to sound casual.

Caleb stepped into the room and closed the door behind him. "I need to talk to you about something important."

Jessica's heart raced as she waited for Caleb to speak.

"Logan told me that he saw you meeting with Selena last night," Caleb said, his voice firm. "I need to know what that was about."

Jessica's mind raced as she tried to come up with an excuse, but she knew that there was no point in lying.

"I'm sorry, Alpha," Jessica said, her voice shaking. "Selena threatened to harm my family if I didn't do what she asked. I didn't want to betray the pack, but I had no choice."

Caleb's expression softened slightly as he listened to Jessica's explanation.

"I understand that you were put in a difficult position," Caleb said. "But you should have come to me or one of the other members of the pack. We would have found a way to protect your family without risking the safety of everyone else."

Jessica nodded, tears streaming down her face. "I know, Alpha. I'm sorry. I didn't know what else to do."

Caleb sighed and then looked at Jessica with a serious expression. "I'm going to have to ask you to leave the pack, Jessica. I can't risk having a spy in our midst."

Jessica's heart sank as she heard Caleb's words, but she knew that he was right. She had made a terrible mistake, and now she had to face the consequences.

"I understand, Alpha," Jessica said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'll leave right away."

Caleb nodded and then left the room, leaving Jessica alone with her thoughts. She knew that she had lost everything, but she also knew that she had brought it upon herself.

But Jessica begged for mercy and Alpha Caleb looked at her with a mix of disappointment and understanding. "I can see why you were tempted to go to Selena," he said, his voice firm but not unkind. "But it was a dangerous risk to take. Not just for you, but for our entire pack."

Jessica hung her head, feeling ashamed of her actions. "I know, Alpha," she said quietly. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to put anyone in danger."

Caleb nodded. "I believe you," he said. "But we can't take any more risks like this. Selena is a powerful enemy, and we need to be careful. That's why I need you to promise me that you will never see her again. No matter what she promises you or what she threatens."

Jessica nodded eagerly. "I promise, Alpha," she said. "I don't want to be a danger to anyone."

Caleb smiled, his expression softening. "Good," he said. "I'm glad to hear that. And I forgive you for your mistake. We all make mistakes, Jessica. What matters is how we learn from them and move forward."

Jessica's eyes filled with tears of relief. She had been so afraid that Caleb would banish her from the pack or worse, punish her severely for her actions. But his forgiveness and understanding meant everything to her.

"Thank you, Alpha," she said, her voice choking on her emotions. "I won't let you down again, I promise."

Caleb put a hand on her shoulder, his touch gentle. "I know you won't," he said. "You're a valued member of this pack, Jessica. We all make mistakes, but we stand together and support each other. That's what makes us strong."

Jessica nodded, feeling a sense of pride and belonging wash over her. She knew she had made the right choice in joining Caleb's pack, and she was determined to prove her loyalty and worth.

As the days passed, Jessica worked hard alongside the other members of the pack, doing her chores and carrying out her duties with diligence and dedication. She no longer felt the urge to go and see Selena, knowing that it would only lead to trouble and danger.

Caleb watched her with a sense of pride, seeing how she had learned from her mistake and grown stronger because of it. He knew that Jessica had a bright future ahead of her, as long as she stayed true to her promise and remained loyal to the pack.

One day, as they were out on a hunt, Caleb pulled Jessica aside to speak to her privately. "I wanted to thank you for your hard work and dedication," he said, his voice low. "You've really stepped up since your mistake, and I'm proud of you."

Jessica blushed, feeling a surge of happiness and pride. "Thank you, Alpha," she said. "I just want to do my part and be a good member of the pack."

Caleb nodded, his expression serious. "I know you do," he said. "And I have a feeling that you're going to do great things in the future. But I need you to remember your promise. Selena is still out there, and she's still a threat. We can't let our guard down."

Jessica nodded eagerly. "I won't forget, Alpha," she said. "I'll always be loyal to the pack, no matter what."

Caleb smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I know you will," he said. "And I'm proud to have you as a member of this pack."

Selena seethed with anger as she found out about Jessica's confession to Alpha Caleb. She had trusted Jessica to carry out her plans, and now she had betrayed her. She appeared to Jessica in her sleep, her eyes glowing with fury.

"You foolish girl," Selena hissed. "Do you not know what you have done? You have ruined everything."

Jessica trembled under Selena's gaze, her heart pounding in her chest. She had never seen Selena so angry before, and the witch's fury was terrifying.

"I-I'm sorry," Jessica stammered. "I didn't mean to-"

"Silence!" Selena snapped. "You have proven yourself to be a weak link in my plans, but I will spare you this time. You will continue to spy on Alpha Caleb and report back to me. But if you betray me again, I will not be so forgiving."

Jessica nodded, her fear and guilt weighing heavily on her. She knew that she had made a grave mistake, and that her actions could have dire consequences. But she was trapped, caught between the ruthless Selena and the powerful Alpha Caleb.

As Selena disappeared into the darkness, Jessica lay awake, her mind racing. She knew that she had to be careful, that one misstep could mean the end of her life. But she also knew that she couldn't back out now. She had made her choice, and now she had to live with the consequences.

The next day, Jessica tried to act as normal as possible, but she couldn't shake the feeling of guilt that weighed heavily on her. She went about her duties, trying to keep her head down and avoid any suspicion. But she knew that Selena was watching her, and that every move she made was being scrutinized.

As the days turned into weeks, Jessica became increasingly anxious. She knew that she was in over her head, and that she couldn't keep up the charade forever. But she was also torn - she had grown to care for the people in Alpha Caleb's pack, and she didn't want to betray them. But Selena's threats hung over her like a dark cloud, and she knew that she couldn't escape them.

In the end, it was Selena who made the next move. One night, as Jessica lay in her bed, she felt a cold presence in the room. She opened her eyes to see Selena standing before her, her face twisted with rage.

"You have failed me again," Selena hissed. "I should have known better than to trust a weak-minded creature like you."

Jessica tried to protest, but Selena cut her off with a wave of her hand.

"I have no use for you anymore," Selena said. "You are a liability to my plans, and I cannot risk your betrayal. Goodbye, Jessica."

With those words, Selena vanished into the night, leaving Jessica alone and afraid. She knew that she was in danger, that Selena would stop at nothing to eliminate her. But she also knew that she couldn't go to Alpha Caleb - she had betrayed his trust once, and she couldn't bear to do it again.
