AF central base..
Rockford city…
“Open fire!”
BOOM!
Cracks!
BOOM!
“Arrgh!"
" Fight,don't give up!”
“I'll kill you motherfuc*ing bastards!”
Sounds of explosions and curses filled the air as soldiers of the Apocalypse Defence Allied Forces battled it out with the invading monsters.
Standing on an observation bunker was General Lebronsky, who was previously serving in the capital military force. He was currently the leader of this military stronghold after the last general had died.
Taking the military grade binoculars,a grim expression could be seen on his face.
“Something feels wrong somewhere.”
Watching the ongoing battle, he couldn't help but have this ominous feeling that something wasn't right.
Yes,they were easily pushing them back. In fact this was not the first time, they and these monsters had collided in the last two months. They had battled soml many times he couldn't even count anymore.
But that was the problem,he couldn't count anymore.
At first the monsters only tried to invade the military stronghold whenever they felt like it. It was totally random, just like waking up on a Sunday morning and suddenly craving ice cream.
Essentially,they were not organised!
But then over the last three weeks he noticed something strange. Each time the monsters attacked the stronghold they did so in an organised manner at specific time intervals.
Previously,if the monsters were attacking, they usually did so without any definitive pattern. It was essentially a free for all. Heck! There had even been times when said monsters turned and attacked their own kind.
It wasn't noticeable at first due to the fact that everyone took monsters as creatures that only thought about killing, however,it was inevitable when he discovered that in each skirmish, they were actually losing more soldiers than the last battle.
It was as if there was an hidden hand behind the scenes that was giving directives out to the monsters, a leader of some sort.
Gulp!
Swallowing some saliva,a fearful look appeared on General Lebronsky’s face as he thought about the consequences of a leader being born among the monsters.
“That'll simply be a disaster!"
" Sigh…"
Thus it was understandable how heavy the weight on his shoulders were.
“Salute!"
Right then,he heard the sharp salute of one of the soldiers behind him. Tearing his gaze away from the battle that was almost oat it's head,he faces the young soldier.
“At ease. What's the situation?"
"Yes sir! Doctor Meyers seeks your audience!”
“Mm?!"
The moment he heard the soldier mention doctor Meyers, his eyebrows instantly shot up in expectation. The number of people who could draw his attention inside this stronghold were not even up to one hand. Doctor Meyers was one of them.
“Thank you soldier,dismissed!"
" Sir, yes, Sir!”
After the soldier had left,he gazed at the battlefoeld once more. The battle had been completed with the monsters running away after they lost a substantial amount of their kind. Funny thing was that they didn't leave their comrades dragging them along with them.
Thankfully though,it seemed like the number of casualties on the human side was very small considering that nearly everyone that went out to fight came back.
“Edward, take over,I have somewhere to be."
Handing over to his second in command,he quickly scaled down the makeshift observation post before heading towards a tent situated at the other side of the stronghold. Along the way he passed by some civilians doing construction work earning him their greetings.
Soon he had arrived in front of the tent and without wasting time,he made his way inside.
Inside the tent was a man, probably in his prime wearing a set of glasses that made one wonder if his ears weren't hurting fro their weight. He was decked in a white Labcoat which had been stained with a reddish black fluid that seemed like blood.
“Ah..general,you're here?,right on time. You see-"
And so doctor Meyers started a long tirade.
" Doctor Meyers you called, what do you have for me?"
Cutting the enthusiastic doctor off he directly went to the main point.
“Hehe."
Scratching his head, Doctor Meyers gave an awkward smile before starting to speak.
“General,I'm pleased to tell you that I have two pieces if information. One good, one bad. Which one would you like to hear first?”
“Dang it!"
Rubbing his temples, General Lebronsky could refrain from cursing as he felt an headache coming on. He really appreciated the effort of Doctor Meyers hence why he accepted all his eccentricities. The thing though was that this brainiac was insensitive at times.
The whole stronghold was currently in a situation of constant tension yet he still spoke about bad news like it was reading a sentence from a novel.
Seeing that General Lebronsky was somewhat distracted, Doctor Meyers cleared his throat.
“Ahem! So what news do you want to hear first?”
Glaring at the doctor, General Lebronsky felt like punching his face but then had a rethought. That would be like killing the hen that laid the golden goose and thus he could only say;
“Good news first."
" Great, great!” Clapping his hands, doctor Meyers immediately went straight to the point.
"Remember project power which we were working on previously? There's been a breakthrough.”
“You say?!”
Hearing the doctor's announcement,a surprised look which soon became a smile found it's way to the general's face.
The superhuman project they were talking about was simply about awakened humans. In the first few days when the apocalypse just started everyone thought that it was the end when their firearms started losing most of their effectiveness when battling the monsters. However, they soon discovered the powermasters or in simpler terms awakened.
They were a group of humans who somehow, were able to awaken powers bordering on metaphysical. No one knew how they were able to do that but they were glad they existed as they were one of the main pillars of the stronghold.
. But their numbers were that much. The ADAAF base over here had a population of over seven hundred people. The number of powermasters were less than five percent of the population!
This he ordered doctor Meyers to delve into researching them.Since they weren't able to contact all the other military forces at the moment, getting results had been next to difficult. He never expected doctor Meyers to actually make some progress.
Beaming with a fanatic smile,Meyers proceeded to explain the whole stuff to him. However, general Lebronsky couldn't understand a thing and thus…
“Wait! Can you say all these in simple English?"
Oh my bad. Essentially what all these charts mean is that we have been able to isolate a compound from both the monster we've captured and studying the bodies of powermasters and I'm proud to say that we have created a serum that allows a normal human to awaken!”
“What!"
Shouting like an uncivilised individual, the general wasn't able to hide the shock on his face. What did this mean?
Well at the very least, each individual in the stronghold would be able to protect themselves.
On a large front? He would be in charge of an army full of powermaster!
Sure there would be side effects or perks but then the benefits far outweighed the losses!
Suppressing his excitement he asked him about the other kind of news.
“So what's the bad news?”
At least, considering, how huge the implications of the research results were, the bad news definitely couldn't be that bad anymore, could they.
Well sadly he was in for a ride as doctor Meyer's expression became sombre gave him a foreboding.
“About the monster hordes being controlled by an entity. You were correct. And if am not wrong it should be an Alpha."
" What!"

Hearing what the doctor said, the previous happiness on the general's face disappeared.Last month before the communication satellites all around the world stopped functioning, the main military base in the capital gave a hastily compiled guide book about the apocalypse among which was a catalogue to identify monsters. It consisted of a variety of classifications that listed all the kinds of monsters and how strong they were. Although it was somehow outdated due to how fast new monsters were popping up some things still remained the same. The rankings of monsters was among those things that didn't change. Generally, monsters were ranked in five levels starting from the bottom they were as follows:rogue, soldier, commander, general and the Xenogenic Alpha. The rogue was the lowest level of monsters that you could find while the Xenogenic alpha's were the top tier monsters although their kind were very very rare to spot. Generally monsters were dumb especially those at the lowest tie

An express high way three vehicles covered in a mixture of dust and blood were rushing forward. Aything that stood in their way was mercilessly crushed with fail thanks to the specialodifications of their vehickes. Approaching a road branch they all left the express highway each taking sharp turns into the rocky dirt road bleeding out of the highway. They drove for a while before approaching a moat causing them to all grind to a halt. The moat was probably constructed just a few weeks ago as there were still signs of fresh soil scattered around. Behind the moat was a huge structure which was fenced by logs. At a glance, just the height of this fence was more than twenty meteres! It simply reminded one of those castles of medieval times. Giving a signal of sorts, the mechanisms of the gate started making moving noises before starting to slowly lower itself down.CreakCreak Bang Touching the other side of the koat, the three waiting vehicles didn't waste a second as they rushe

“Alright kiddo, here's your room. Make yourself comfy.”BLAM!Cringing from the slammed door Ethan wondered if Dave was so forceful with everything he did. Heck, that if that door wasn't made from metal it'll probably have been turned into a wreck by now. Glancing around the wooden room,Ethan clicked his tongue as he thought of how spacious the place was. Well that was inevitable if you considered the fact that this whole place was a military base. Ex-military base to be precise! It was one of those military training facilities from the cold war that was abandoned after the war ended. It was supposed to have been deconstructed or something since the military rarely left it's property lying around. However, the contractor that was given the demolishing project didn't even do it and coupled with how deep in the forest the facility was no one even knew until the apocalypse struck and Tyson and Thomas along with other people fleeing from monster's found it and turned it into a s

The rays of the sun had just started peeking out of their covers while the dark was being chased away. The skies were still purplish an indication of how early it was. Before the apocalypse, early no mornings like these were usually the most hectic time of the day. From taking your bath to grabbing a bite to the early morning rush hour,it was undeniable that mornings were the most fast paced time of the day. Then came the apocalypse and everything changed. All the early morning rushing that characterised people's lives became pretty useless. There was no school, work or function to rush to unless you wanted to rush into a monsters mouth that is. Thus most mornings for the survivours was usually a matter of finding something to eat while trying to avoid getting into the sight of a monster. But not for the Raisin camp!As soon as the first streaks of purple broke through the skies the camp was already alive. Everyone was already up and running with the camp bustling with activitie

" A monster attack!” Hearing Tracy's reply,Ethan could confirm that his guess was in point. Just like Tracy, everyone brought out their weapons in preparation to fight. Then the watch tower in the middle of the field started to blare a string of messages out of it's PA system. [TING TING TING. Monster attack incoming, monster attack incoming,it's advised that all non-combatant civilians should take shelter in the anti monster bunkers. Wall gunners take your positions. Powermasters take your position. Expected time of contact : next five minutes! Battle hatch will be opened in the next two minutes.] Hearing the messages you would have expected the civilians to start panicking but the opposite was the case. As if they had taken countless drill each civilian that wasn't able or couldn't fight simply rushed towards an underground bunker to hide. The wall gunners whose jobs were to simply provide cover fire to the powermasters were already arming themselves while rushing to the wa

“Arrgh, take this!” Although he was not the first person to charge out,Thomas was still the first to arrive in front of the monster horde. Without hesitating a bit he raised his gigantic battle hammers in a large vertical swing before bringing it down on the approaching monsters. “Earth crusher!” Instantly, the earth cracked and actually rose up as if it were rippling waves of water. This in turn caused the approaching monsters to get swept off their feet by the enormous force. “Rooar!” Whimpering in fear, the monsters in front tried to run back but unfortunately for them, those coming from the rear weren't giving them any chance to do so leaving them at the mercy of Thomas's hammers which wasn't exactly desirable either, no? “Come die you moth*r fu*kers!” BANG! Slamming the hammers left and right,a lot of monsters were either knocked out or were outright killed, crushed to pieces. The amount of monsters that were taken out in that one hit was at the very least ov

Wall gunners prepare for battle!” “Oh yeah!” “Shoot those mother fu*kers!” Dratttatt! “Finally something to do,my hands have been itching for action since!” Soon the sounds of bullet casings richochetting on the walls was the only thing that could be heard as some of the monsters were finally able to get to the moat. The function of the wall gunners was very simple—man the wall and using the advantage of their high position monitor the whole battlefield and kill one or two monster that got too close for comfort. It was that simple! It was just that most if not all the time they rarely had anything to do since the monsters were usually destroyed before they even had the chance to get close. However this time they finally had the chance to shine! Cocking the sniper rifle,Ethan placed it on the gaps between the wall while peering into the periscope. Placing his hands on the trigger he closed his eyes. Breathe in ,breathe out… The moment his eyelids closed it was

The hell they would believe that. Hearing his response,Mike felt like giving Ethan a knock but he dared not. Who knew what the kid still had up his sleeves! Never touched a gun before? As if I'll believe that! However the expression on his face said otherwise as he continued asking with a big smile on his face. “Wow you must be a prodigy then,or are you a powermaster?” There was other explanation that Mike could think of except the kid being a powermaster. However, the reply was the direct opposite. “No.” “Oh I thought you were…” Seeing the kid shake his head Mike actually felt bad for him. Demon fang mountain Countless military trucks and armoured tanks with the AADAF central military base logo could be seen making their way over the rugged mountain terrain. Despite how bad the road was,the vehicles hardly shook all thanks to how well designed they were. At a single glance there were about thirty vehicles here! “Halt! Where here." Inside the drivers compartment of each of the vehicles General Lebronsky's voice could be heard causing every car to come to a stop. “Fall into formation now!" Giving the next order, the soldiers in each of the trucks quickly rushed out of the vehicles before falling into neat formations. Clearly they had practiced this for a while now. Walking out of the military jeep that he was in , General Lebronsky along with the other powermasters from the volunteering camps made their way over. “Men…were here. This is the lair of the Xenogenic Alpha blade. I'm sure that your leaders have already explained the situation to you so I won't

Afternoon. The time of the day when the sun was at its peak. Due to the special geography of Barnes city and it's environs it received a lot of sun daily. The highest temperature recorded in the day had once reached a staggering 41 degrees Celsius! While today's temperature wasn't that high it was still hot enough to cause one to sweat bullets. With how hot everywhere was the best thing to do right now would be to sleep and that was what the sentrys of the AADAF base were currently doing. While you might accuse them of slacking off on duty they couldn't really be blamed. Furthermore, the probably wouldn't have anything to do since the monsters that were supposed to attack them would be busy battling the Hellstrike expedition force so they really wouldn't have much to do. The strike force had left the camp over two hours ago and by now they should just be approaching the mountain range, the battle that would decide if humans could continue settling around this area would soon begi

Inside the AADAF central base. The sounds of equipment and artillery being moved around could be heard in the base. Countless personnel were on ground to direct and coordinate the activities currently ongoing. WOOSH, WOOSH, WOOSH! Over a dozen armoured vans wheezed by as they drove towards a mini parking lot where they halted while military grade trucks reversed so that the ammunitions and supplies could be placed in them. Operation Hellstrike commenced today! Well technically not today as it had started ever since General Lebronsky first tabled the idea. However,in a sense it was still right as this was the first time that something tangible would be done. Previously the only thing being done was just preparations, today was the day that they would really advance to put the operation in motion. “Today finally came!" Standing at the edge of the window of the finally completed command center general Lebronsky muttered under his breath as he watched the proceedings bel

On the highway leading out of Barnes city,a truck could be seen rushing past the buildings . There was a black motorcycle in the back while four people consisting of three men and a lady sat surrounding it. Inside the truck there were two men,one driving while the other was well not really doing anything bringing the total to six. Suddenly from one of the abandoned houses on the side of the road a tiger like monster suddenly jumped out with the intention of ambushing the truck. However, before it could even step on the asphalt, there was a bang and it fell on the spot having received a bullet to the head. Blowing the smoke off the tip of the gun,the shooter proceeded to place the weapon by his side while watching the number faces of his co travellers. As you might have guessed, the group was none other than Ethan and the five man group from earlier in the day. They were currently travelling together to the AADAF central base. Taking off the helmet, the rider turned out to be none other than Ethan. “Luckily I was able to get here before nightfall.” By now the sun had just fully set and everywhere had gone dark. He really was lucky. After removing the key from the ignition and ensuring that everything was set,he started to make his way into the store but not before grabbing his weapons. Pushing the double glass doors open,he entered with utmost caution while gripping the saber with both hands, the sniper rifle on his back. Taking slow steps to minimize the noise from stepping on the shattered glass he soon fully entered. There was no way anything would catch him off guard like this! After entering though it seemed like there was nothing to worry about as there was no sign of a monster in the vicinit
Chapter 39
On a free express highway a dumb looking monster that looked like an dodo but with four legs stood in one of the bushes by the side of the road while glaring at its own reflection in a puddle of water. Today was the fourth day since it had last eaten and right now it was not an exaggeration to say that it could eat anything. While it could go out hunting,it dared not to as most of the monsters out there were stronger than it. It was just a rogue tier, venturing near them would be just like offering itself up for dinner! Thus it had devised this method of lying in wait by the roadside just to ambush it's unknowing prey and it was working out pretty fine as it git more food to eat. Ever since it had started this method it couldn't help but feel continuous pride in itself for devising this method. And it's prey you might ask? These were then connected to a monitor of sorts that had a down icon. Standing in the middle of this chaos was none other than General Lebronsky who was observing the proceedings. Honestly speaking,Thomas felt that he wasn't supposed to ask this question. In fact he shouldn't have asked if he was being logical here. However as the leader of the Raisin camp now he just had to. He had to be selfish for the lives of the over two hundred people that was at stake if he didn't. Looking at their faces he could see the hesitation and reluctance causing him to feel like this was a lost cause. He couldn't blame them though as their fears were pretty understandable. They had just fought with a commander tier monster and it totally wrecked them. Going up a against a Xenogenic Alpha tier monster two tiers higher?,that would just be like serving up their lives on a platter! They had visited the borders of death once and they weren't ready to visit it anytime soon. I guess I'll just tell the general that we'll not be joining the raid. Brother I tried but……sigh. The first thing that entered his eyes was the huge circular metal table situated at the centre of the room. Seated around this table were the members of the Stinging nettles though they were visibly missing two members. The next thing was how bright the room was and the fact that there were some communication equipment there. In fact there was a wall mounted screen that was showing a 3D map of sorts directly opposite him. It was like this place was never cut off from the grid. How was that possible?! Since day one of the apocalypse power had been totally cut off with all electrical appliances and gadgets turning useless. Plus this place was on the outskirts of Barnes city,in an abandoned military training base!Even if there was electricity here previously, there shouldn't be any here now. This however, further affirmed his belief that what was about to be said in this room would definitely be weighty. It might truly affect the continued existence of the Raisin camp!
