Zia looked up at her father with wide, confused eyes. “But why are you crying if you’re happy?”

Aiden glanced at Silvana, who nodded and gave him a reassuring smile. He took a deep breath and gently brushed a tear from Zia’s cheek. “Zia, we just got some very special news, and it made us so happy that we cried. Sometimes grown-ups do that.”

Silvana stepped closer, her smile radiant despite her tear-streaked face. She crouched down beside Aiden and took Zia’s hand in hers. “Zia, the doctor told us something wonderful. You’re going to have a baby sibling soon. The baby is growing in my tummy.”

Zia’s eyes lit up with pure delight and amazement. She looked from Silvana’s face to her stomach, then back again. “Really? A baby? In your tummy?”

Silvana nodded, guiding Zia’s small hand to rest gently on her belly. “Yes, really. Right here.”
