Chapter Two: Forbidden Power
last update2025-03-10 18:36:16

Noah’s breath was ragged as he clutched his temples. His mind was flooded with information—lines of glowing symbols, ancient knowledge, and rules that governed the world. It was overwhelming, yet at the same time, it felt… natural. As if this knowledge had always been inside him, just waiting to be awakened.

He staggered backward, his back hitting the rooftop railing. His vision blurred, and the city lights below flickered as if they, too, were reacting to his awakening. The voice that had spoken to him was gone, but its final words echoed in his mind:

"You are now the sole wielder of the Forsaken Code."

What the hell did that mean?

Noah forced himself to breathe, to steady his racing heart. He clenched his fists and stared at his hands, half-expecting them to glow or crackle with energy like the others who had awakened powerful abilities. But nothing seemed different. He still looked like the same powerless fool who had been humiliated in front of the entire academy.

But that wasn't true.

He could feel it—an invisible force lingering beneath his skin, woven into his very being.

A power beyond this world’s understanding.

If the Awakening Crystal couldn’t recognize it, that meant his ability was something outside the system—something that didn’t follow the rules of normal abilities.

Slowly, his lips curled into a smirk.

Maybe he wasn’t as powerless as they thought.

---

Noah crouched on the rooftop, placing his palm against the cold stone floor. If his power was real, if he truly could rewrite reality, then he needed to prove it to himself.

But how?

He closed his eyes and focused. The strange knowledge in his mind began to take shape, forming words, commands, codes.

His instincts guided him, whispering the command he needed.

> Override: Physical Condition. Enhance Strength x10.

The moment he thought those words, something clicked inside him. A rush of heat surged through his veins, and his muscles tightened like they had been reforged from steel.

Noah’s eyes snapped open.

He curled his fingers into a fist, feeling the raw power coursing through his limbs. His body felt lighter, stronger—limitless.

He took a deep breath and then—

BOOM!

With a single step, he shot forward like a bullet, his body moving faster than he had ever imagined. In an instant, he reached the edge of the rooftop.

His eyes widened. That was… impossible.

He turned to the metal railing and gripped it. His fingers sank into the steel as if it were soft clay.

Noah let go, staring at his trembling hands.

He had actually done it.

His power was real.

A laugh escaped his lips—first a quiet chuckle, then full-blown laughter. After everything that had happened, after the humiliation, after being told he was nothing—

He had just rewritten reality.

The Awakening Ceremony had branded him as a failure. But they were wrong.

Noah Carter was not powerless.

---

By the time Noah returned to the dorms, the school had settled down for the night. He knew the news of his failure would be spreading like wildfire. Tomorrow, he would officially be removed from the combat division and reassigned as a civilian worker.

Unless…

Noah’s smirk returned.

Unless he proved them wrong.

He needed a real test—something bigger than bending metal or running fast. Something that would confirm he had absolute control over his power.

As he walked through the dark corridors, his mind was already forming an idea.

The Academy’s forbidden combat hall.

It was an underground training arena, meant only for the strongest students to practice high-level abilities. Breaking in was strictly forbidden, but if he was going to test his power, it had to be against a real opponent.

His steps quickened.

If he could defeat someone strong—no, completely overwhelm them—then no one would ever look down on him again.

---

The combat hall was pitch black when Noah arrived. The massive underground space stretched out before him, its walls lined with battle scars from past duels.

He cracked his knuckles.

Time to see what I can really do.

Noah stepped forward—

And froze.

A presence.

Someone was already here.

Noah’s instincts screamed at him, and he immediately ducked behind a pillar. He peeked out cautiously, his heart pounding.

Standing in the center of the combat hall was Kyle Hastings.

Noah clenched his jaw. Of course, it had to be him.

Kyle, the strongest student in Eastwood Academy. The same arrogant bastard who had humiliated him in front of everyone.

Kyle wasn’t alone.

A group of elite students surrounded him, all of them watching as he trained. They weren’t supposed to be here either, but when you were one of the strongest, rules didn’t apply.

Kyle stood in the middle of the group, his muscles glowing with an orange aura. He smirked, his voice echoing through the hall.

“Alright, who’s next? Try to land a hit on me, and I’ll buy you all dinner.”

One of the students hesitated before stepping forward. He had awakened a mid-tier Wind Manipulation ability.

He lunged at Kyle. Fast.

But Kyle didn’t even flinch.

In an instant, he moved—faster than the eye could follow. He dodged the attack with ease and slammed his fist into the student’s stomach.

CRACK!

The student collapsed, groaning in pain.

Kyle laughed. “Pathetic.”

The others chuckled nervously, hesitant to challenge him next.

Noah’s blood boiled.

Kyle loved to act like he was untouchable. Like he was a god among mortals.

But Noah knew something Kyle didn’t.

He wasn’t untouchable.

And Noah was about to prove it.

---

Noah stepped out from the shadows, his voice calm but laced with challenge.

“I’ll take that bet.”

The laughter stopped.

Kyle turned, raising an eyebrow. His expression shifted from amusement to disbelief.

“No way,” one of the students muttered. “Is that… Carter?”

Kyle smirked. “You got some nerve showing up here, reject.”

Noah just shrugged. “You said anyone who lands a hit gets dinner, right?”

Kyle scoffed. “You? Land a hit on me?” He shook his head. “This is gonna be hilarious.”

Noah ignored him. Instead, he reached deep into his mind, calling forth his power.

> Override: Physical Condition. Speed x20. Strength x15. Reflexes x30.

The moment he activated the command, his body exploded with energy.

Noah moved.

Faster than anyone in the room could react.

Kyle’s confident smirk vanished.

Noah was already behind him.

And before Kyle could even blink—

Noah’s fist slammed into his gut.

The impact sent shockwaves through the room. Kyle’s body bent forward, his eyes wide in shock as he was launched backward, crashing against the far wall with a deafening BOOM!

Silence.

The elite students stood frozen, their mouths hanging open in disbelief.

Kyle groaned, barely able to move. He clutched his stomach, looking up at Noah with pure shock.

Noah stepped forward, his expression unreadable.

He crouched down beside Kyle, his voice low.

“Still think I’m a nobody?”

Kyle’s breath hitched.

Noah didn’t wait for an answer. He turned and walked away, the whispers of stunned students echoing behind him.

Tomorrow, the academy would still think he was powerless.

But tonight, Kyle Hastings knew the truth.

And soon…

The whole world would know it too.

Only one sentence was written on the front: "Power thrives in the shadows." Noah frowned. He tore the envelope open and pulled out a folded piece of parchment.
