Zane watched as they had fun and smiled when he saw how happy Mirabel looked as she watched Madam Claudia chase Reagan around.

She looked so beautiful when she was laughing, and it seems like he was really having a good time watching them. She stopped abruptly when his eyes met with hers.

What hurts him is that she didn't give him the usual smile; rather, she looked away immediately. He watched her walk to the kitchen until she disappeared completely.

He saw the way Madam Claudia was looking at him, and hence, to avoid being questioned, he had to make an excuse to leave the premises.
